The Yamaha P-45 is very affordable and seems like a good choice for me, but it doesn't support the 3-pedal unit. I hope to be able to pursue postgrad overseas when I'm done with uni, so I don't want to have to upgrade to a better piano anytime before then.

Age doesn't matter, you always want 88 keys. If you can afford something with weighted keys, that's a massive benefit. They're not necessarily super expensive, but takes you out of the pure budget class. Something like a Yamaha P-45 is a superb starting piano.

I don't think you really need to upgrade considering you've only been playing for a year if your parents agree to get an acoustic that's great but don't try to convince them if they don't, wait a year or 2 at least once you've really outgrown your keyboard. You know I played on a cheap 61 key unweighted keyboard in my starting 2 years considering that P-45 seems great.
