At the end, it's a very balanced Bass, have a variety of tones, and the pickups are very good, define very precisely and naturally every note. I love how it sounds, fits in every sound I play. So my personal opinion is: it's worth it, it's good and versatile, very comfortable, not so heavy, but not light either, but is honest and delivers what you're paying, and a bit more, you can definitely use this Bass in your gigs ahead. Bonus:Yamaha's life time warranty looks like a very good deal.

Is it possible to buy a good bass for $150?

/u/B_Stache mentioned it already, but the [Yamaha would be my top pick for you. I will always sing the praises of Yamaha since I picked up the TRBX305 as my first 5-string, and later traded up to the TRBX605. If you spend just a little more, you get a very good bass that plays like it costs a couple of hundred dollars more. If you can swing it, I'd say save up a bit and buy the Yamaha new or keep an eye on Reverb for a used one that's more comfortably in your range.

I own a trbx305 for almost 3 years now, and i can say that if you’re looking for to play different kinds of music, it was a right decision. Also it doesn’t even feel cheap.

Thoughts on the Yamaha TRBX basses?

The TRBX305 is nice, but if you can spend the extra $$$, get the 505 instead. The 305 is an active bass - the 5-way switch adjusts the EQ settings for different styles of playing, but the bass is "always on". The 500 and 600 series are active / passive, allowing you to turn on or off the preamp. I love my TRBX604, but about 99% of the time, I'm playing it with the preamp OFF.

So I’ve been doing some market research and the Yamaha TRBX305 looks like an absolute steal for the money. Sounds great in demos, has some good reviews.
