BROWN RICE
This is a menu setting designed to cook delicious brown rice. In order to cook hard rice bran and the rice inside, preheating time is extended for better absorption of water, and is cooked at a lower temperature to allow the rice to cook longer without becoming mushy.

SUSHI RICE
Because sushi rice will be processed after it's cooked, it's easier to handle when it is a little firmer. This menu setting is very similar to regular white rice, but uses less water (adjusted by the water fill lines) for a firm finish.

MIXED
Mixed rice is rice cooked with additional ingredients and seasonings. This setting extends preheating for better absorption of seasoning. Also, the cooking temperature is slightly lower than regular white rice, to avoid ingredients from boiling over.

PORRIDGE
Instead of cooking rice in larger amounts of water and risk making it sloppy, use the porridge setting to cook fluffy porridge. Cooking temperature is slightly lower than regular white rice, to be cooked longer for soft texture.

MICOM (MICROCOMPUTER) TECHNOLOGY

HOW IT WORKS

 This is actually pretty fast. I think this rice has been in here. Maybe 20 minutes 25 minutes tops, I'm not for sure. I didn't actually time it, but it cooks, pretty fast I'd, say, maybe tops half hour on the pre-washed

 We bought this, I believe about two years ago now these are so far. We'Ve actually got a couple: their appliances, we've got a hot water, ting drink, dispenser, they're, two that works really good to be descaled, but this is the review on the rice cooker. This works, really good, really efficient plugs right in starts right up no problems with it. We are going to replace the bowl in it because it has a scratch in it probably got something dropped in it at one time or you know, plus that it gets well used in our family household

 I think, but I believe it's grown in California, and we like that, because it's easy to digest and tastes really good. We are going to try a few other brands of the different styles of the Japanese rice and that my aunt or my wife's aunt excuse me - is actually from over there in Japan and she's actually got us hooked on a lot of the entertainment culture, foods and Stuff like that, so we actually have incorporated quite a bit of that into our household, but this was one investment that we were really expand. It does a really good job. It'S actually cooking right now, you're going to see it so definitely well worth the money, and it's almost done really

 I was hoping I didn't have to put so much effort into making rice though.  Lesson learned, stick with the cheap costco models.

My previous 2 rice cookers were the "cheap" $30 rice cookers from Costco. If left in the cooker too long, they'd burn the bottom of the rice, but if you got the rice right when it was done, perfect rice, every time.  For over $100 bucks, I expected perfect rice every time AND for it to be smart enough to not burn the rice either.  INSTEAD, it's not difficult to get mushy rice, or dry rice with the Zojirushi

So for 5x the price, I now have to be careful with how much water and rice I put in, and grab it right when it's done, making it MORE work than the cheaper models

Functional, but not worth the price

... this thing is a pain to clean, the lid accumulates water and grows fungus, so EVERY SINGLE TIME you need to remove the lid and clean it, along with wiping the crevice that is built into the unit for steam release

Oh also it takes at least 1 hour to make rice, but this has never been an issue for me i have just learned to schedule myself around that

Everything else is good but..

Design inferior to other Zojirushi rice cooker models

5 hours for brown rice).  I’m going for a normal rice cooker now. The fuzzy logic will ensure that each batch of rice will end up with the same texture, the kind you get when you make Japanese style medium grain rice. It handles that perfectly

 So only buy this if you want to make soft but not mushy medium grain white rice. Otherwise get another cooker or try using a pot.

Don’t buy due to lack of a replaceable battery.

 An inner lid replacement (which you may need if the gasket is damaged) is ~$22-28. The tiny spatula holder, which seems like it is worth under a dollar, is nearly $5, though to be fair, all prices on their site include shipping. Plus at least you have the option to order replacements. The spatula holder is not easily removable without damage (because it has plastic hooks that allow it to slide in one direction) and I broke mine when I yanked it out for cleaning

 [UPDATE: The mush on my first try was my fault; the rice I used just needs to be rinsed really well because it has lots of starch. When I rinse really well, it turns out excellent on the "Regular" setting also. And American Long Grain did not have this issue. So it is not a cooker problem at all, and long-grain rice can be cooked on regular setting and used with extended keep-warm

) Also, my 3-cup model has nice metal parts on the outside, and this one is all plastic, although nice smooth high-quality plastic. And the lid-opening button is nicer and possibly sturdier on the Chinese-made models. But the thing I like the most about my 3-cup one over this model is the steam vent. I think it is an advancement over this older model

 But not worth the cost of replacement. How do the parts prices compare to those for, say, Instant Pot? And expensive cooking equipment really should have replacement parts available for parts that wear out. I would not buy from a company that did not offer that. But the prices are totally unreasonable for the Zoji parts

Great for people who like many rice varieties

The rice from this cooker is delicious and the process was very simple after discovering that long-grain rice, which is what I eat, is the exception rather than the rule for this cooker. On the Quick Start Guide, a single sheet added to the enclosed paperwork, (and not anywhere in the manual that I could find) it states that the cooker is designed for short and medium grain rice. The Quick Start Guide says that long-grain rice should be cooked using the Mixed rice setting. Fine, except that in the smaller print of the operating manual it says that the Timer function, which I'd like to use, is not available for Mixed rice
