 I purchased this one and sent back the FireStick 4K as the refund on the Firestick 4K covered the cost of this one and then some.  Things that impressed me (with caveats):  1. Ability to use captive portal internet. Currently the tvOS on the AppleTV does not allow for this unless you go through a process to spoof the MAC address of a device on the captive portal or somehow get a hold of the internet provider's help desk to have them add the MAC address

 Especially helpful for use by kids.  6. Ability to set multiple profiles. I have two daughters and was able to add the kids profiles that they use on their Amazon Fire Kids tablets

Being an all Apple household I have to say this device impressed me quite a bit. I purchased a Firestick Lite over a year ago to take with me for travel but it had a bit of lag and seemed to have network drop outs on hotel WiFi (I know hotel WiFi is less than desired but it was annoying). In December this device was on sale for over half off and I decided to try it out. This was after I had gotten the previous Firestick 4K which was a decent product but I found out it for whatever reason cannot get the latest software (but the "less capable" Firestick Lite can, baffling I know)

Want my advice? This is the worst piece of crap I've seen that's got a Google and netflix certification on it. Don't buy it. The Amazon fire stick leaves this shit eating dust anytime, it's just way much faster and works fine, despite me thinking FireOS and the Amazon AppStore to be inferior.

As I mentioned earlier, the stick itself is impossible to tell apart from the standard Fire TV Stick 4K. Unfortunately, despite going “max,” Amazon apparently didn’t see fit to upgrade to USB-C for the (required) plug-in power; this device retains the Micro USB on its side. But getting up and running remains easy: plug the Fire TV Stick 4K Max into a free HDMI port on your TV, find an outlet for that USB power adapter, toss the included batteries into the remote, and you’re good to go. 

The improvements are minor but worth the extra cash

I love Dolby True HD but in the case of streaming , I am quite happy with Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby Atmos but I prefer to not have multi channel PCM unless I am obligated to and that’s what Apple TV does to Hulu or any non Atmos content . So that’s why I got 4k max!!!  3. Dolby Vision is supported and HDR is supported and in a much improved manner so the $55 upgrade was completely unexpected and absolutely needed!  It’s the upgrade you thought you really didn’t need until you saw considerable improvements and apps that are more frequently updated on the platform!

All the episodes of Jack Ryan were available on prime , on my smart tv’s prime app this didn’t happen, only season 2!?!  2. This design is associated with products for the elderly and disabled, but it also benefitted the able-bodied because those buttons could be found and used in the dark by anyone.   NO TETHER - NOR PLACE TO ATTACH ONE There's not even a tether. At least in the old days if you were going to design a tiny terrible product you would at least have an attachable wrist tether and hope it would compensate for something. I would attach it to a larger lanyard - preferably one that glows in the dark and/or has an internal LED.  THERE'S ONLY ONE Just throwing this out there: Old TVS used to come with a PAIR of remotes

 I do wish the live channels could be arranged by preference, maybe there is a way and I just haven't figured it out. Here is what I am not crazy about, the menu or landing page. The Home, Find, Live in my opinion should be at the top of the page horizontal or vertical. This would allow for more apps to show as opposed to 6 and should simply scroll with no need to drop to an apps area (3 little squares)

 Everything froze all the video all the films everything i watched kept freezing. So i say: what's with all the problems at tivo 4k stream, has i called up their website for assistance, technical assistance to no avail they're aware of the problem they're working on it they're aware of the problem they're working on it. This has been going on for over a year, no patches, no fixes what the heck's going on with this organization. Their website lists right here

 I also have amazon fire stick 4k, but my thing is: i use youtube tv for most of my streaming and guess what the roku people and the youtube people are. Having a problem, the roku people are not allowing youtube tv to work on their platform anymore, so they block half the stuff. The video, the dvr, the recordings don't get locked up all kinds of problems. So guess what? If you have youtube tv say goodbye to roku streaming, which i did now i use amazon, i was forced to use it started with it left

A TiVo Stream 4K Complaint & Review of the Amazon 4K Fire TV Stick & Roku Premiere 4K Review

 I love that I can "cast" to the TV from my phone. It FF Philo TV much better than Roku--you can FF by stepping forward which is great to find the exact spot you need. The browsing section is great! It's nice to see a trending section since I don't really keep up with new shows not seeing any ads for them now. It also shows all your apps and what's showing on them too in a browsing section, so that is really nice if you don't really know what tickles your fancy in any given night

  WHAT'S GREAT? What I LOVE to have all my "shows" in one place, so I can decide what to watch--not having to remember WHICH APP these shows are on. This device will tell you which app (well--sporadically tell you--sometimes it will show you it's on YouTubeTV, and sometimes it won't.) You can also add the movies you wish to see too until you see them, then easily remove them from "Your Shows" list. This is my favorite feature

 I love how you can use Google Assistant to do things. AGAIN--these great features are great WHEN THEY WORK. They usually DO NOT.  WHAT'S TERRIBLE? ***It will NOT play HULU--don't even try

  I just went through a very frustrating experieince after upgrading my sound bar to a Klipsch Cinema 600 with wireless rear speakers (also highly recomended BTW).  Google as a company is in the midst of a serious decline.  While their discontinued Chromecast 4K (no Google TV version) will provide Dolby 5.1 for YouTube TV the most recent Chromecast w/ Google TV does not support Dolby 5

 This is on sale for 50 bucks. Eventually it might start selling for its suggested price of $ 70. But even if that's the case, you get a chromecast Ultra plus an Android TV platform, plus the TiVo app that I was talking about all for the same price as the chromecast Ultra and you get a remote, the big drawback to the chromecast. As far as I'm concerned, anyway, it's just more bang for your buck, so it's pretty nice
