AOC 24G2 vs Dell S2721DGF

I went with the Asus vp249qgr over the AOC 24G2 in the end to avoid the horrible 'gamer' aesthetics. May last monitor lasted me 11 years and I don't want to be living with that red thing.

It has a crap ton of i o. The design is much better, at least in my opinion, and even though the black equalizer performs about the same on both havin...

Good resolution. Tilts up, down, and side to side which is nice. My only complaint is that you can’t adjust the brightness or contrast (or much of anything else, picture-wise) without a 3rd party app. Ok for gaming, easy to see in dark areas like caves or at night in-game, but the contrast is so high that dark colors look almost black and lose definition in bright, daytime conditions (also in-game)

4k was not an option because of cost and lack of HDMI 2.1. so I went on 1440p. Next I found a big issue with current monitor and console

Oh, and it also has excellent response times and a great warranty. I will update this review if anything changes. This monitor is hard to find, I had to watch amazon for a month to get it, but if you see it available for $180, it's an excellent deal. UPDATE 1/21 (Original review posted 5/20): The dead pixel is no longer there, it must have been only a stuck pixel and I cannot see any defective pixels any more

The panel I got did not have any major backlight bleed. There was a bit of a noticeable IPS glow in the bottom left corner, but it was not any worse than other IPS panels that I've seen. A manager from J-Tech Digital reached out to me and offered to refund the restocking fee, which was greatly appreciated and resolves all of the issues I had with my return

- I am currently up to 120 hz refresh rate vs. the desired 144 hz. This could be hardware induced since my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 5 15 with AMD RYZEN 4700U) does not have a Display Port and I am currently using a HDMI 1.4 connection

Personally, I'd prefer the fast response times over deep blacks, but those that game mostly in the dark might be put off by the contrast and also IPS ...

You save on cost by avoiding the fake hdr400 crap and the gimmick features that only work if other features are disabled, etc, ending up with a no frills high performance gaming panel with the only flaw of viewing angles. Not a bad deal.

If feels quality. I am comparing this to the MSI 24 VA curved panel in one of the photos. Viewing angles are much nicer than the curved monitor. Really glad I went with an IPS this time

The contrast ratio is fine, a little low but fine, and black uniformity is decent enough. There are plenty of OSD features and an easy enough navigation system. Out-of-the-box color settings are good enough for me but the brightness was a bit high at 90/100. I recommend setting the overdrive to the middle setting (I think it's called normal?) and in the display menu in NVIDIA Control Panel I recommend changing the custom NVIDIA color settings to use the full color range instead of the limited range
