 The over-ear earpads are memory foam covered with soft, breathable black cloth. The underside of the headband has a rectangular pad made of the same material as the earpads, mounted between two flexible, sturdy plastic bands. 

Doom sounds powerful on the A40. The super shotgun and rocket launcher get plenty of low and low-mid resonance to give them lots of punch, and the various hisses, grunts, and growls of enemies come through with lots of clarity in the high-mids and highs. Mick Gordon's grungy industrial metal soundtrack alternates between frantic and ominous through the headset, with the thumping bass notes sounding full even without reaching into head-rattling sub-bass levels.  Okay, so now to wrap up this review on the Astro A40 TR and the MixAmp Pro TR, I'll start off by saying that the headset itself is very good. Excluding Biodynamics offerings, the A40 TR has some of the best build quality and comfort in any headphone that I've tried or headset under $200, and it also has very good features that make it convenient for gaming, whilst also delivering good sound quality. On the other hand, the MixAmp's lackluster offerings make it difficult to justify the $100 price increase over the standalone A40. The surround sound it offers is not really effective

The 6 Best Open-Back Headphones - Spring 2022

 (Optical out please?)  The Dolby audio is a gimmick as well, sounds terrible for a lot of games, unless the developer designed the sound of the game for it.  If you want this, look to eBay. Get the mixamp used for half price, and get gen 2 or 3 a40 cans if your sold on open back astros(can be found for around $30 for a brand new one) or buy a set of headphones with a good reputation to use with the mixamp. These just are not worth it at full price

 Astros own a10's sound better, which is downright absurd. I'm guessing most reviews are comparing them to $20 or cheaper solutions, which they do beat out, but I have a set of $20 in ears with better quality than these. Don't forget the peeling Plastic issue which looks to be rampant in the gen 4 a40/a50.  The mixamp is lacking in features (why no opt audio out? Why no mic out? Both would help with streaming immensly) And the daisy chain feature is

 Get the mixamp used for half price, and get gen 2 or 3 a40 cans if your sold on open back astros(can be found for around $30 for a brand new one) or buy a set of headphones with a good reputation to use with the mixamp. These just are not worth it at full price.

Way overpriced

This is not plug and play. Most expensive non fully functioning headset. The mic will not work unless you plug it directly to the controller sacrificing the reason most people bought it, Dolby surround. It ends up being no different than a 60$ Xbox one setup
