I got this pack because I hike with my family and we like to have one larger pack and one smaller light weight pack so we can trade off and carry each other’s gear. This pack would have worked for that, but 40L is larger than we needed (30L, we later found out, would have worked too). When this pack is understuffed, you can cinch the size with the straps, but doing so creates this poopy diaper effect between the two bottom straps. I love how comfortable it is and enjoy that it breaths so well while hiking around the lower back. I just bought one for my wife and she enjoys it too! I love that there is a top zip pocket for my wallet, personal stuff etc. One of the important features I was looking for was an exterior pouch for water canister bottle. I have a large 40 oz as you can see in photo. It fits perfectly
