Baratza Vario Coffee Grinder vs Timemore C2

With oily beans, particularly, I must always take off the lid and push one or two beans with my finger. Another little thing is that the grounds hopper is highly prone to static cling. I have to smack it hard, repeatedly as I empty it into the press pot. But those are minuscule complaints compared to the glory of the coffee we can make with it

I recently bought some coffee beans (Congo) from Costco, and it's a medium dark. I just brewed some now, at a course setting using my Timemore C2 and brewed for 13 hours at room temp. It tastes so vile, like burnt and ashy. I drank if after putting it in the fridge for a few hours

I have been using the Vario for over a year, here are my observations: (+) There is negligible "holdup" in the burr chamber, if I put 18 g of beans in the hopper I get 18 g of ground coffee in the basket. Some grinders keep a significant quantity in the grinding chamber which mixes into successive grinds and, of course, becomes stale. (+/-) The grinder stops dead precisely at the preset grind time (to 0.1 s) allowing very reproducible dosing WITH DRY BEANS in the hopper

Simple design, seemingly sturdy material and assembly. The max version can hold about 5TBS of beans, and in my experience loose grounds and bean volume are about the same. Grinds in a reasonable amount of time. Mine came with a fabric storage pouch and cleaning brush

A nice entrance grinder is a Timemore C2, which costs about 60$, depending on your location (I can buy it now from AliExpress for 45$ including delivery). If it's too much for you, then just gift a sole Aeropress with ground beans, and if your someone would like, one can buy the grinder later. The settings switches are a joke and very vague in the grind you get. Set at full espresso grind it easily clogs my Quickmill and my Solaris. I have to use a drip grind setting for espresso and it can not be adjusted in spite of the "adjustment tool". For the hefty price this is not grinder I would recommend to anyone

Had a skerton pro on order and cancelled at the last minute after a look at r/coffee. Went with the Timemore C2. Excellent for the price. Great grinder for that sort of budget
