DJI Osmo Action vs Kodak PixPro SP1

Video Quality and AppsThe PixPro SP1's video quality is superior to Sony's more expensive POV Action Cam ($173.65 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) , but not quite as good as the much pricier GoPro Hero3 Black Edition, or the iON Air Pro 3. Details are clear and crisp, and the 160-degree field of view captures a good amount of the action. I did see substantial distortion around the edges that creates an exaggerated fish-eye effect, the extent of which may not be to everyone's liking

But the overall effect isn’t as good because in order to achieve about the same level of stability as the GoPro, the DJI crops the frame way more, and it’s very noticeable. Not only is the field of view considerably narrower, but pixels are stretched and there’s a distinct drop in image quality. The Hero7 Black is generally just as smooth, but manages to keep the shots nice and wide, so if you were using a selfie stick you’d probably still get your entire body in. Not so much with the Osmo Action, which is a big deal if you’re capturing something like snowboarding

Then you can immediately share directly to social media or edit in iMovie or Clips. Unlike many other action cams you don’t need to use a computer first. The color saturation is very good, and images are in focus from edge to edge. It’s wide angle, but in-camera settings can minimize distortion

IT SEEMS TO CENTER YOUR PHOTO OR MOVIE YOU MUST HOLD THE CAMERA SIDEWAYS, LOOK AT THE SCREEN OR JUST POINT & HOPE.

That being said i recently switched from an older gopro to the dji for the simple need of an upgrade worth the price (200$ usd) and competition plus the reliability was key for me.

Don't have to worry about holding it steady. For the price, vs others, I'd say it was great. Still learning some of the features. Recommended

One of the features that sets the Osmo apart from the Hero7 Black is its HDR video function; the GoPro can capture HDR images, but not video. It comes in handy for scenes with big differences in exposure, especially when shooting against a strong backlight. It will record a full clip and then start another if left on with a strong battery. The bad: It's heavy for an action cam. Can't be helped if the durability and view screen are as good as they are. While a negative, I wouldn't sacrifice those features for less weight
