The Fezzari Shafer AL is the least expensive model in the brand's line of Shafer gravel bikes, and the only one that is built around an aluminum frame. This entry-level bike has a sleek design and comes equipped with budget-friendly but quality components that are ready to get out and explore the back roads straight out of the box. The moderate gravel geometry is quite easy to get along with, and while it doesn't necessarily feel racy, it performs admirably on both the climbs and descents. With a surprisingly light weight &#40;for an aluminum framed model&#41; of 21 lbs and 11 oz and a stiff aluminum frame paired with a rigid carbon fork, the Shafer AL feels responsive and efficient, and it is best suited to smooth gravel, pavement, and the mellowest of singletrack trails. While it may not have as many accessory mounts as some of the other models we tested, we feel it is still quite versatile and could handle everything from casual gravel rides with friends, jumping into some gravel events, commuting, road riding, and even bikepacking with frame, handlebar, and seat-mounted bags.  
While it's hard to argue with the value proposition of the Shafer AL, we do have a few nits to pick. It is a rigid framed bike, and, not surprisingly, we found it to be a bit harsh over some of the rough gravel we often encountered while testing. We also found the relatively slick stock tires to offer less cornering, braking, and climbing traction than we would have liked, and the thin bar tape wasn't the most comfortable on the hands. It also has fewer accessory mounts than many other models we've tested, limiting your options for attaching gear to your bike, comparatively. That said, we feel this is a great option for riders getting into the sport that won't break the bank.

Gravel Newbie: Which bikes to consider for &lt; $2500? Important component considerations? (I'm familiar with MTB)

 We're running a larger offset at 50 millimeters on the fork and that was a design decision that we made in order to keep that trail number. Um, you know it's really technical. Uh, you know, with some of that terminology, it's basically that contact patch of that tire where that's sitting under that under that wheel by. you know Past, they have the typical round seat clamps that if you over tighten them or things like that, it would actually break the seat post

 Um, with that that allows that front end to stay stable as the roads get rough and and things get, uh, you know, maybe you're on gravel road or getting into a little single track, you still have that front end stability. But we also wanted to address with that slacker head tube angle, how do we keep the slow speed turning quick? And that was with our fork offset. We're running a larger offset at 50 millimeters on the fork and that was a design decision that we made in order to keep that trail number. Um, you know it's really technical

 And that's custom quality. Direct through our 23-point custom setup that I mentioned a little bit earlier, we fit the bike to each individual rider. So for instance, if you're five foot ten and have a 31 31 inch inseam, the next rider is 5 foot 10, have a 35 inch inseam, and they're going to need a different stem length or crank length or or bar width or something like that to fit their proportions to their body size. Instead of taking that medium or large size frame and just thinking, here's what comes on the bike

 The chainstays are still pretty short at 430 millimeters, and that's despite having tire clearance for 700 by 50 mil Knobbies front and rear. As far as the bottom bracket goes, you get a pretty generous 77 mils of drop, so you have a nice low center of gravity again for nice stability. So while you do have that extra stability from the longer wheelbase and that longer front center, you can still steer the front end around pretty easily thanks to that sort of quicker geometry up front. Another thing that's nice about that longer front end is if toe overlap is something that really bothers you, this one has very little of it, particularly given how it has bigger tires

 A lot of carbon frames are claimed to be you know, they called monocot construction basically one piece. However, in almost every one of those cases, what you have is a one piece front triangle that's bonded to separate chainstays and seat stays in the case of the visari. However, the entire frame really is made as one piece. It's a true monocoque according to Fizzari

 There's another water bottle mount underneath the down tube. You've got top tube feedback mounts. You've got another set of mounts up here for a repair kit front and rear fender mounts. You also have anything mounts on each fork blade, so there's plenty of carrying capacity

 The front center is a lot longer, the top tube's longer, the stem is shorter, and and the benefits of that setup are just like what you have with other gravel bikes that use that sort of new school geometry. By pushing that front wheel further out in front of you, you have a little bit more stability. you can really kind of charge and push the butt, push the front of the bike through slippery corners. It's a lot more confidence inspiring when things get really slippery, especially when things get steep out back

The Madone is a bit heavy and getting the handlebars on is expensive. If you are not sure on clip on aerobars, a TT bike is not an option at all.

I have been trying to improve the time of my bike sessions. The ride portion of the triathlon seems to be the most resistant to improvements. This morning I did an Olympic brick, the ride and the run. I improved the times for both sessions since my last full Olympic Triathlon training session. 

I know that I am getting fitter as I train and as I modify my diet to eat more whole foods. I knocked 14 minutes on the 40 km ride. I mostly attribute this decrease in time to my posture. I concentrated on a more bent-over style of riding to reduce wind resistance. Trying to ride in a bent over position on a Cannondale Quick Touring bike with a straight across handlebar c/w ergonomic grips at the end is a bit of a challenge. I found that my upper body was quite stressed by forcing my posture into a bent-over position. One benefit of forcing myself to ride in this position was that I noticed less wind resistance if I kept my elbows tucked to my side.

The purpose of this post is to seek feedback on how best to upgrade my ride. I realise that if I truly want to improve my bike times, I need to get another bike. The Cannondale is an all-weather, all year-round bike. I have the good fortune to live in the pacific north-west coast in Canada so I can ride year round.

My original thought was to add a clip-on aero-style handlebar to the Cannondale, but quickly dropped that idea given the installation challenges and the risk for me, an older rider, of suddenly switching to an aero-style handlebar. I am now looking at performance-style bikes. I don't think I should risk my life switching to a true tri-style bike. I also cannot afford the price point for these types of bikes.

One bike I looked at online this morning is the Trek Emonda SL 6 Disc bike. I have ridden disc-style mountain bikes so I am familiar with this type of breaking system. The Cannondale has pad-style breaks. I simply want to ride faster while I train. At this point, I have no plans to compete in an triathlon race. I am currently trying to do a full 70.3 training session, but my bike riding time for the 90km ride is really slow, considerably above the average for my age group.

To simplify the purchase strategy, I have decided that the road surface that I will ride on will be either paved on hard-packed crushed gravel. I will also not ride the new bike in the rain. Also, because of my age, I can realistically expect to be pushing the envelop for another decade. I also feel that a new bike will help me keep motivated. I am just having so much fun trying to be a triathlete.

What should I be looking for in a more performance-oriented bike? My height puts me into a 58-frame. I bought my Cannondale in 2011, 10 years of bike manufacturing science has quickly gone by. I am a bit over my head in terms of knowing what features are essential and what features are nice-to-have.

I want a faster ride.

 That means you can do this down from the drops or up on the hoods, and these are going to be a hydraulic, brake setup operating two piston calipers on the front and the rear with 160 millimeter rotors keeping the bike rolling very aerodynamic is going to be The bontrager aeolus comp 5 wheels. These are an aluminum rim with a carbon fiber fairing. So that means this top piece here. Where you see the seam is aluminum carbon fairing for the aerodynamic purposes and then they're hosting some bontrager r3 tires

 How do you feel about aero bikes versus lightweight bikes, and where would you see yourself riding on this while you're at it be sure to hit, subscribe and browse the channel to see more videos like this as well? 

 Now the shifting of the bike is done right on top using this shift and brake combo lever. So this is a pretty neat setup where the brake is integrated, so it breaks and then you've got a inside button to go to harder gear whole lever over to go to any easier gear.  So this being an sl6 means, the 6 comes with ultegra level components, a 5 would be 105 and a 7 would be di2, and here we've got the mechanical 2 by 11 drivetrain from ultegra. So this is one down from the very top, but still mechanical setup and the mechanical ultegra derailleur is going to operate through an 11 to 30 tooth ultegra rear cassette and moves forward through an altegra crank set hosting 50 34 chainring sizes. An Outrageous Red Rocket | 2022 Trek Madone SL 6 Review

 Rode bike so like a lot of big road bike brands. Now they usually have their big brand and the big brand here is trick and then they had their like smaller under brand for all the components and tricks. One is bond Roger and this bike is fitted with a full Aero cockpit, so it's got internal cables all the way through here, and one thing I do like about this bike - is it comes stock with this absolutely gianormous sprint stem? This is about a hundred. I think this is one hundred and forty millimeters long, so it's about the same size as the zip one I have on my Cannondale, but this is all integrated all the cables run through this

 So we're gon na head out on the road out of Karapiro there's a lot of rollers down this we're gon na give it a few berries up the thing and see how stiff it is see how it feels on the climbs and overall, just see how nice, Over Auditors, [ Music ] we're already time to test out the brakes on the trick: Madone [, Music, ], [ Applause, ], [, Music, ], all righty leave it over head out on the trick Madone, and this is one seriously fast bike by his ridiculously stuffing and One thing I did a few Sprint's on the rollers up the hills and if they like point 19 % - and I really can't tell the difference of the weight, but there are only little power climbs. You probably notice it a little bit more if you're going up like a long 10k climb, but then again, if you're going a big farm out there and you're gon na be winning you're, probably not going to be riding one of these. You know doing a few Sprint's and power funds and stuff on this. This is such a stiff, like you literally, throw some power into it and then you're off

 The thing that it is those is not meant to be a climbers bike, so if you're looking for a really stiff Creek bike or if you're a lead out man or a fast man into the sprints, the lack of light weight does get made up for. In the stiffness of this bike, this is one of the stiffest sprinting bikes on the market and who you can put out clothes stuffing in with 17 1800 watts, and this thing is absolutely perfect and still going hard. Okay. So now we're going to look at some of the specific components that Cooky's got on this treatment down, so this module is fitted out with a full or Tegra 11 speed do to group set and Kirby's also got this SRM carbon power meter on there

 Race, wheels, race tires, no bottles in it or anything, and this is a not a light. Biker would be pushing over 8 kgs. The thing that it is those is not meant to be a climbers bike, so if you're looking for a really stiff Creek bike or if you're a lead out man or a fast man into the sprints, the lack of light weight does get made up for. In the stiffness of this bike, this is one of the stiffest sprinting bikes on the market and who you can put out clothes stuffing in with 17 1800 watts, and this thing is absolutely perfect and still going hard

Is The $10,000 TREK MADONE SLR The Best SPRINTING Bike?

 Now trek has had its madone slr aero road bike in its lineup for a couple of years, and even though it's been around for a little while, it is still one of the most aerodynamic road bikes on the road. However, as good as it is not everyone has the budget for the top end madone slr lineup. So what trek has now is the madone sl. The bike that i have here is the madone sl7 etap, which comes with sram's force

 It comes stock with this particular version of the force etap group, so that is a nice little addition to have the total weight on this bike. As you see it here for a 52 centimeter frame well without the pedals and accessories is 8.59 kilograms or just under 19 pounds, so not particularly light. As i said, this spike is not about a super light climber

 What are you just a little bit? What do you think of how this thing looks? You know i i feel like i'm, i'm walking down broadway in new york times square and i'm seeing in the bright lights track. It'S a lot of logo, it's a whole lot. It'S a lot of downtube and trek has used every little bit of that down tube for that enormous logo. This was something that they started doing on team bikes not too long ago, and they basically carried that over into the consumer range for better or worse

2022 Trek Madone SL 7 eTap review: Aero and comfy with superb handling, but so, so heavy

 So by combining that 5236, with an 11 30 out back you're gon na have climbing gear ratios similar to if you were running a 50 34 and say a 28 tooth outback, but the top speed that gets much closer to traditional standard drivetrain and shifting everything up Front is going to be through these hydraulic and di2 shifters. So what's real neat here is instead of having true lever, blades you're, going to have an inside button to click the harder gear and the whole lever over or this larger paddle. I should say: clicks you to an easier gear and then of course, hydraulic brakes going down to two piston calipers on the front and the rear with 160 millimeter rotors. But the neat thing with these shifters is the positioning has been upgraded for this year and the reach definitely feels a lot better

 This is a alloy handlebar. Of course it's got an arrow section right here. It'S a longer reach and drop so definitely going to allow you to get into that more aggressive position and it's connected up via traditional inch and an eighth steer tube to 31.8 bar clamp with this aluminum blender stem

 It'S also gotten more slender and narrow around where you grab, so you can get a much better purchase on the handlebar and then you're going to have things like a button right up top, which you can dial in to either adjust your garmin that you set up On top or be a shifting function as well, all that is going to be adjustable in shimano's e-tube software, which allows you to customize what the buttons do for the shifting on the back end. Now that we're up in the cockpit we can check out the parts here and it's going to start off with this elite arrow handlebar. This is a alloy handlebar. Of course it's got an arrow section right here

First road bike

 I can afford to you as much as I do love to speed and handling of the bike. However, I would go and check out the new Madone SL, I think, there's an SL 6 + SL 7, just recently launching a story of r-o-t-c up a link in the description below, and I basically offers the same frame with a different grade of carbon to keep The price down, I think it started 3600 pounds so again, all the same arrow performance, the same handling, hopefully saying rykor t but just a weight county, but big saving on your bank balance. So that's a bike. I would probably consider take off a test ride and see how it performs be really interested to see how that bike doesn't compare to this one if there's much trade-off in terms of performance, but as a rating sites are full, I think is a good time to Bring this video to a close, I hope you enjoyed watching this video review of a new track

 The back end, meanwhile, is still very, very firm. You do get a bit of isolation from some of the bigger impacts, potholes and cracks in the road, but on very small bumps. It'S just not responsive enough, just not soft enough, pretty much equivalent of an f1 car and on my local rate in the Cotswolds, which they're pretty crappy on this. It'S just a bit hard work

 So you look at the bike from the front. It'S very narrow, very skinny fault blade, a tapered head tube and a new two-piece, integrated, Aero, handlebar and stem, and all the cables are tucked inside the handlebar at the stem and in the frame all that reducing drag as much as possible. But if we look at the frame from the side with a different story, we've got the deepest profile fault, blades and the biggest down tube I've, probably seen on a road bike in a long long time.
