Kenmore Upright 31140 vs SEBO Dart

I'm willing to spend the money for a machine that will last me a decade, but for now want to look at $750 as my top spend. No pets, just an old house and children that make vacuuming a constant need.

However, this vacuum doesn't come with a extension hose which is necessary for the vacuum to be more efficient. This is a grave omission since the unit itself is really great. The suction is strong, and handles cat hair and litter on hardwood floors. The pet hair attatchment is a plus for furniture, but is difficult to use since there isn't an extension hose

Also do you guys know if I can use the Felix exhaust filters on the Dart I can't seem to find anywhere saying you can but I don't see why they'd be different. TL;DR: SEBO Dart is good vacuum.

There is a cloth pre-motor filter at the top of the dust bin that needs to be washed and one (the exhaust filter) in a tray on the bottom of the canister itself that needs to be changed when it gets dirty. Like with all vacuum cleaners with spinning brushes, definitely keep that clean as well. Also, a lot of the dust bin is meant to be disassembled by the user in case it gets too dirty. The manual would tell you how to do all of this

Kenmore top load direct drive 70-80 series. Oldies but are solid and if they do go, they are really easy to work on. Anyone can do it tbh

It can do any carpet and hard floors. Hepa silver lined filtration, motorized brush tool is great for stairs and upholstery, and did I mention it floats?. If you want an upright go Sebo Dart $500 and add a turbo tool. Built to last, easy to use

Because of that, you need to wash the pre-motor filter and wipe the inside of the bag compartment every so often. That is one thing I wish Kenmore would fix. If you do not mind that, it is a good unit.

Empty it when it gets full, rinse the pre-motor filter at the top of the bin as specified, occasionally clean the screen inside of the bin whenever necessary, remove any tangling from the brush roll, and replace the exhaust filter when it becomes dirty and it is a great unit. Maintaining any vacuum cleaner is the key to making it last a long time.

It is much better than a Shark or Bissell, though. The build quality is superior and the cyclonic setup traps more fine dirt keeping the pre-motor filter cleaner for longer than a Bissell or Shark. The Kenmore also comes with a dedicated hard floor tool. Do keep in mind that you need to wash that filter and replace the exhaust filter every so often

Sebo says that it can't be washed but I'll probably buy a replacement when it's time and then see if the old one will wash up. The second filter is the motor filter and costs around $15. Sounds kind if expensive butI do like having those filters since I have allergies. Oh and it even though the Sebo Dart is not listed as self-propelled (couldn't find anywhere that mentioned it) it feels like it is

Although the Kenmore has best in class suction power and carpet beater, it's just a PITA to use and manuever around. Also, the removable hose for the attachments is painfully short, and a lot of people have griped about it. So, when the Vacuum Wars guy said that although this vacuum has best suction power, they used the Shark almost all the time in their house cleaning business because it was just much easier to use AND it had good enough suction power. Actually, better than good enough, but excellent

For mostly carpet you'll want a powerhead with physical height adjustment and a bagged vacuum will last longer. The Sebo Dart and Sebo Felix are great uprights that will easily last 10 years, in fact Sebo's motor warranty is 10 years. For a canister the Miele C1 Cat & Dog and Sebo K3 are good and the Miele C3 Kona and Sebo E3 are better. If you can visit a Miele and Sebo vacuum store it's best as then you can try them out first as every vacuum moves differently and has it's positives and negatives

The Kenmore is a bit more powerful than the Kirby in general; being a much more modern design. It would certainly do a better job on your hard floors and perhaps even your carpet.

The issue with the Dyson isn’t “too much suction”. The problem is with the cleaner head design, it can’t adjust high enough for plush carpeting.

The floor hose is good but about 4-6" too short for comfortable use. A little heavy versus a canister and my old Hoover but compared to my Dyson, it is much better in every way! I like the bagged model which was another plus.

At least it had one for being mid range on price. The height settings are really good. It's got 4. Those self adjusters from others never seem to work right
