But if you're a 700 Series guy, the real improvements found in this card are its power usage which you'll notice is significantly less. EVGA's styling of this card is very good from a profile angle, and I haven't had many complaints except for the occasional screen glitch here or there, which I personally think has more to do with my monitor than it does actual issues with the card itself. Remember, if you have a monitor that is outdated, the card won't make it more awesome, and most cases with vsync off, will make you realize how painful your refresh rate on your monitor really is (especially if coming from the 500 Series). This card is almost ideal with a high end 1440p gaming monitor like the Asus RoG Swift PG278Q or another 120-144Hz monitor that can really give you the experience of those extra frames so you can do something with it

Being a 17.3" it offers better cooling than the standard 15" models. If you want more RAM or storage you just need to remove the bottom panel and everything is accessible from there.

Now, you do have the option to set up your own fan profile for the card, which I did. I had to turn the fan to I think around 60-70% speed for the temperature to sit around 60c. Now, you may think, "well thats not so bad" but the issue I have is that the fans are like jet engines. they are really loud, but they do cool off the card VERY NICELY! Im sure you could let the fan sit at 100% speed and probably have the temps down to 45-50c but I just dont know if i can trust the fans spinning that fast for multiple hours without something wrong happening

If you can manage to scoop one of these up, do it. The pricing was fair (especially the way the market is currently) when I purchased this early February. While the GeForce GTX 980, at a suggested price of $549, isn't anything resembling a budget card, it's $100 less expensive than the GeForce GTX 780 was at launch, and $150 cheaper than the GeForce GTX 780 Ti (as of this writing, at least). Of course, video-card prices are ever malleable, and the introduction of the GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards signals the end of the line for the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780, and GTX 770, according to Nvidia. As a result, some near-term deals may be available on those cards. On the red-and-black side of the fence, AMD's Radeon R9 290X was available when we wrote this for a bit less (about $525, and including some generous game bundles, and in a few e-tail configs for a bit under $500), but you'll likely end up paying more in the long run in electric bills over years of gaming with that card

Compatibility

Rev 1 still running strong. It's still got a few tricks up its sleeve.

When I purchased this card, it was substantially less expensive. I actually purchased it as an upgrade from my Radeon card (not to say that AMD is any less of a brand, nor Radeon any less of a GPU, but I needed hardware compatibility for the IRay render engine as well as VR readiness). However it still competes with the current video cards, and I've put it up against not only games, but also some industrial applications like AutoCAD, Photoshop, and Maya.

The i9s are looking really good right about now, and I'd even prefer to go for a Ryzen if I could. However, a key thing I'm looking for is that the laptop should ideally have no graphics card and also be compatible with the Razer Core (Ryzen is not yet compatible last I checked). That might sound silly on the surface, but I only really need the graphics when I'm gaming and not when I bring the laptop out, and I'd really prefer to keep costs and weight lower if possible.

Overclocking

These are nice graphics cards!

These are well-built, and run great. They overclock quite well. Software says they're manufactured by MSI with Samsung GDDR6.

Not worth the price.

I've read many accounts of similar overclocks with cheaper cards, including EVGA's own SC and FTW 980's. Also, many have noted that later run Classified's don't overclock as well. Hopefully results will improve with watercooling.
