The unit arrived packaged in the plastic which is extremely difficult (and dangerous) to open. Setup took two tries to get the units to sync sitting within 2-3 inches of each other. Setting the unit up requires stepping through date and time one digit at a time, covered with a beep (for the alerts) that sent my dogs running for cover.  Long-term I don't hold out much hope because this unit replaces another unit which was less than three years and stopped working

I have yet to find a digital/wireless/self-emptying rain gauge that qualifies as being 100% accurate. The ones I've tried have generally been lucky to be +/1 10% compared to a high-precision accumulator gauge like the Stratus.  Having said that, I like the AccuRite gauges. I've probably had half a dozen now

 Day, week, and month are self-evident.  My biggest gripe with them is the same as I'd have with many other self-emptying gauges in this class: the bottoms of the gauges are open, and they are a VERY inviting habitat to various spiders, wasps, and other creatures who are looking for a sheltered place in which to build their homes. So, before any upcoming rain event, you need to inspect your gauges and be prepared to issue eviction notices and clean out thick, sticky webs and other things that will prevent the rocker mechanism from working.  They do offer a means of calibration, but I have yet to find a tool that can do it without knocking the rocker off its mounting pin -- and those tiny pins can't be replaced if you lose them

 Eventually the tabs that hold it onto the base break off when you remove it for cleaning. I cannot find just this top piece for sale so I have to buy the outside unit. But the whole thing is cheaper here than buying the outside part from Accurite. I am going to figure another way to hold it on

 So I glued a rubber cap onto the top of the screws. Now it read correctly per the calibration procedure. CLEANING- you must periodically clean the two black scoops you see when you remove the cover. Spiders will leave eggs/webs in them

Good unit BUT read below!

 Let me preface this review by saying I worked 40 years as an instrument technician and a process control engineer in an industrial environment. Out of the box and following the instructions the remote connected properly. I tested the unit here in my house first by dripping water from a cup into the gauge. The gauge did work and the remote did count up

 But here is where the big problem started. You buy a rain gauge so you know how much RAIN you got right. The first significant rainfall we had after the installation and testing we got 4.6 inches over two days

DO NOT BUY THIS RAIN GAUGE.  ACCURACY ISN'T EVEN CLOSE

 It was wind. I had it in an open flower bed and found it knocked over at least 4 times now. May use some thin garden sticks on the front and back to keep it upright.

 Keep it away from your pets from knocking it over. If possible, away from the sprinklers. But also you will need to secure it from falling over from wind. Honestly, the fact that it doesn’t have a heftier base to keep it from tipping is a serious design flaw

 Just keep the sensor close to the read out. I have mine about 30 feet away (but it is line of sight) and it works. I know it can still read through one brick wall from where I had placed it originally. Would have been cool if it had a WiFi connection so I could just read it from my phone

 10 months later, I must admit the replacement unit works reasonably well. Needs regular cleaning to cleat out leaves, seeds and dirt which impact performance, but I’d buy again
