In view of this, choosing an Intel CPU is also questionable, as it's less efficient and more difficult to cool than its current AMD Ryzen counterparts. Verdict - m17 R4 with wasted potential

That Razer blade would be a complete waste of money. It's not a max powered card and so it will probably not even push 30 FPS in most AAA games at 4k.    

I have been looking for two months now, and having been able to make up my mind on the laptop I should get. Main gaming would be POE, Valheim, maybe some wow classic when the new expansion drops. When I travel for work I'll be watching movies with it as well.
I do not play very many fps demanding games, but POE is a cpu and gpu destroyer hehe.

The two laptops listed are my top choices for now, but I am open to suggestions.

$4k to burn, and can't make up my mind! I need help deciding

 I am an IT professional so I have done lots of troubleshooting but nothing ever seems to change the absimal wifi speed.

I first noticed the horrible wifi performance (3-5 MB/s) when downloading Warzone and Cold War on Battle.net which never had a problem on any of my gaming PCs and were blazing fast to download. Lo and behold with speedtest.net I found out the wifi card is just bad

Hey everyone, I bought a brand new 2021 Asus Strix G15 Advantage Edition and I did a speed test alongside my family's brand new 2021 Alienware M17 R4. The wifi performance of G15 AE is absolutely horrible. So bad even my 2015 Sager 980m gaming laptop absolutely destroys it.

 Installed all updates. Nope. I am an IT professional so I have done lots of troubleshooting but nothing ever seems to change the absimal wifi speed.

 I feel like I would have been fine with a $1000 or cheaper laptop. I’ve always wanted an Alienware laptop and now I regret paying a premium price for an unimpressive laptop.

Disappointing - I would not but it or recommend it

 Intel milked 14nm too long. Ryzen took the lead and may never lose it. We’ll see if 11th Gen Intel can keep up. 

1. The Scar’s Ryzen CPU is much better. Ryzen 7nm is way ahead of 10th Gen Intel. However, some games run better on Intel

 The 1080P is more future proof and will sustain playable frame rates at max settings on upcoming AAA games for a longer period of time. I’d rather keep max settings, or high settings, on FHD, then have to hit medium to play on QHD. I also love ray tracing. I’d rather FHD with max ray tracing than QHD with gimped ray tracing

 It can’t handle it without DLSS. That’s what the future holds. The 1080P is more future proof and will sustain playable frame rates at max settings on upcoming AAA games for a longer period of time. I’d rather keep max settings, or high settings, on FHD, then have to hit medium to play on QHD

 Tom’s hardware article indicates 165W which is probably 150W + 15W dynamic boost. ASUS does a light over clock from the factory, so any non-enthusiast reviewer benchmarks will not show its true potential. It’ll perform better than the Scar.

I was all excited for the SCAR17 G733 QHD with the 5900hx Ryzen... The 115w+15w boost 3080 didn't bother me too much until I saw the 1440p QHD frame rates compared to 1080p. I was hoping it wouldn't strain a 3080m nearly as much as a 4k UHD, and from what I could tell, it doesn't... but QHD performance on a 3080 wasn't great either, with some games dipping into high 40fps range (cyberpunk) or other dipping into the 50 range (metro exodus) with everything maxed out and rtx on.

When I started to look at the 1080p FHD frame rates for the same games with same settings, they were substantially better and into the 70fps, and even 80 or 90fps. And I'm talking about modern gpu-murdering games.

I then weighed the pro's/con's of 1440p vs 1080p on a 17inch screen, which it seems there really isn't much visual difference (if any) on a display that small. I have no intention of using a external monitor (I have a 5950x/3090fe desktop with a 4k 120hz 65inch screen for that). This is more for lugging around during travel and lan parties like Quakecon or FortLan.

In the end it ultimately came down to frame rate....and the 165w 3080 in the alienware at 1080p FHD seems to be the max potential of the all for highest frames.

My biggest concern, however, was giving up that G733's Ryzen 5900hx for instead the M17R4's i9-10980hk. The tiger lake 11980hk isn't expected until June in product lines until earliest, and dell won't be offering Ryzen processors until rumored later this year.

As I intended to use the M17R4 for portable gaming and nothing more, how much will that i9-10980hk slightly lesser performance come back to haunt me (if at all?). Is it something to dread over, or will it be no big deal?

I've already cancelled the G733 preorder and ordered the M17R4 (which means I get the alienware in a week and a half and much earlier than the G733 which wasn't to ship until mid-march earliest), so that ship has already sailed... but it's the "what if" feeling in the back of my head going from the fastest mobile cpu out with a slightly lesser TWP 3080 and instead go for the highest TWP GPU out with a slightly lesser CPU. 

Was a right decision made in this case? I know I'm going to toss and turn about it tonight. Thoughts?

Ditched the SCAR17 G733 3080 and went with M17R4 3080 instead... Little worried about CPU tho

Nice machine, but mine was flawed.

More times than not Intel laptops are more expensive than Ryzen ones which is what's most upsetting since they're selling basically last generation CPUs. If they were selling at a more competitive price I wouldn't be team AMD right now and I would say to get whichever you can get your hands-on first.

I'd say you'll get a better deal with the Legion 5 Pro though since you're getting similar performance, and QHD screen over the other two while being less than $2k (assuming you're from the US).
