Hard to open and close

 Since the closing isn't automatic and you have to anchor it manually, there has been times that I tried to just open the umbrella back to use again going back outside, but was unable to do so until I closed it completely and locked it down, then pushed the button to automatically snap it open again. It requires that snap of the button release to lock in the open position to be useful in the rain. It is a nice size for storing next to the drivers seat between the door and the seat.

 Fine my legs will get wet, cause it's not very large, but when a gust flips it despite the vent it just doesn't work as designed. If it's a light shower and no wind it works fine. Just avoid gusts of wind in the rain.

I've had this for a little over a year, and it works well enough with rain and wind. My biggest complaint is that the velcro has basically stopped working to hold it closed. That's not a big deal except that I carry it in my bag, and the velcro often comes loose and lets the umbrella fabric spread out inside the bag. I purchased this as my other travel umbrella from Brookstone finally died. I've bought Amazon Basics items in the past and have been impressed with the quality, which is usually better than their higher priced counterparts so I figured why not?  It was very rainy and windy here in Boston so it'd be a good test. The wind vents worked out great except I noticed that the wind coming through the vents would create a bit of lift on the inside so make sure you have a good grip or it might get airborne. The width of the canopy was great and I didn't get wet except for my shoes

I wanted a compact umbrella while carrying things from/to my house. At 38 inches, the canopy is sized and weighted for protection without being cumbersome.  My headline says "semi-automatic" because the button does not fully reverse the opening action. Initially, the button will extend the shaft and expand the canopy

 Pressing the button again will collapse the canopy but not the shaft. Pressing the button while the canopy is collapsed and the shaft is extended does not re-expand the canopy. In other words, expanding the canopy via the button is only possible when the shaft is collapsed.  Mindful of not breaking the ribs for this review, I could tell that the vents weren't functional enough to relieve enough stress on the ribs

Con: In my opinion, the curved handle makes holding it more difficult than a normal handle. That's the only thing I prefer about my old Tote umbrella over this Amazon Basic Umbrella.  Overall, good umbrella for the price

I found this umbrella to have the right balance of being sturdy and portable. Light enough to carry around in my work bag but strong enough to withstand a wet and windy Seattle rain shower. I bought 3 of these for a recent family trip, seems like we always end up out of town and forced to buy some garbage overpriced umbrella when I'm caught in a downpour. Quality of this Amazon Basic was pretty decent, although the price point might be a little high depending on color choice. Overall not bad at all.  The fabric seems thin but I guess that helps it keep its compact shape when closed
