 With the 5900X, each CCD only has six of the possible eight cores enabled resulting in a six plus six configuration making it a 12 core processor. And that makes these six core CCDs less valuable as they can't be used in the more expensive 5950X or the Epic 3 CPUs. So you see where this is going, the 5800X and 5600X only use a single CCD, but the 5800X requires top shelf silicon with all cores enabled, whereas the six core 5600X receives the same lower binned silicon used by the 5900X. If the 5800X was to come in at roughly the same cost per core as the 5900X, it'd cost just $370, but for the sake of this hypothetical, let's bump that up to $400 to price match the 3800X, which already wasn't a good deal sitting next to the $330 US 3700X, but let's go with $400 anyway, as it is half the price of the 5950X

 Pricing aside though, the Ryzen 7 5800X is a phenomenal leap forward from AMD's previous generation of 8 core processors. A 23% gaming performance uplift on average is quite incredible, and as I said earlier, AMD now offers the world's fastest 8 core desktop CPU, it's just a shame that it didn't retain last gen pricing. Anyway, there's not much more to say on this one, at $450 US I recommend skipping the 5800X, either spend less on the 10700K, or maybe get the 5600X which is cheaper again, and we'll be looking at that part tomorrow. Or you could spend more to get the 5900X, or I guess alternatively you could also keep your eye open for a good deal on a third gen Ryzen part, so there are plenty of alternatives there

 So for that reason, I feel most of you will either end up being upsold to the 5900X or opt to save some money and go with the cheaper six core 5600X, a part that I will be looking at tomorrow. Both processors do have 8 cores with 16 threads so in that regard they should age pretty much the same, and that means spending almost 20% more for PCIe 4.0 which might end up being useful within the lifespan of the product makes the 5800X a bit of a tough sell. AMD is really putting buyers in a situation where those looking to spend around $400 are best off saving a few bucks and going with Intel, or alternatively they need to dig deep and come up with another $100 or so to land the Ryzen 9 5900X

So after dozens of hours spent on reading I assembled parts list that make my dream system.

First. no GPU - I already have 1660 Super and intend to buy a new one when prices get back to normal. PSU should be sufficient for 3080/3080ti (I guess - please correct if wrong). 

So anything I should swap over?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor  
CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B 51.17 CFM CPU Cooler   
Motherboard: ASRock B550 Extreme4 ATX AM4 Motherboard  
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory  
Storage: Crucial P5 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  
Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500DX ATX Mid Tower Case  
Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 850 W 80+ Gold

Case: seems one of the best in this price range - the system will be sitting on the floor on a small pc trollery and this case has control buttons and inputs facing up which is convenient
PSU: as mentioned earlier, I have 3080 or ti version in mind, in about 6 months time so I believe should be good enough for me?

UPDATE: Wow, this blew out, I didn&#39;t expect so much! Thank you all for your input. This makes me even more confused to what to go for (haha!)!!!

I changed cooling to ARCTIC Freezer 34 and SSD to Western Digital Blue SN550 and mobo to Aorus Pro v2 / AC / AX depending on availability and prices. 
I also hear you #DM725 with your suggestion to go for Intel - I will explore it further.

As for 6c/8c debacle I decided to go for 8 cores as last time I skimped on it and if I had 2 cores more on my current CPU right now I wouldn&#39;t feel so pressured to change it.

What you guys think of the build I want to buy?

 Maybe this will be improved with further BIOS updates but for now this seems to be the safest option.  *EDIT #2* At time of writing now I have been using this CPU for about 9 months and I have spent a pretty silly amount of time tinkering with settings, optimizing and looking for possible improvements in my cooling/performance solutions. I am no longer running Eco Mode via Ryzen Master. My BEST CASE results are as follows, YMMV:  In my MXI X570 BIOS I'm utilizing the following settings found in Advanced AMD Overclocking:  Power limits are Manually set: PPT - 142w TDC - 95A EDC - 120 Boost Override - 50mhz  Curve Optimizer: Best two Cores NEGATIVE 10 (for me this happens to be core 1 and 7, check in Ryzen Master) All other cores NEGATIVE 25  This gives me my best undervolted temps via the new PBO2 update, 30 minutes of Cinebench R23 Multi peaking @ 78C

 If the price of the 5800x drops to $400 or less in the future it will be become a much more compelling purchase. Consider that this is also the end of the line (supposedly) for the AM4 platform. I think you can make a reasonable argument for 10th Gen Intel due to a potential next gen upgrade capability but who knows if it will be worth the wait.  TL;DR: Top performer, value questionable, warm running Ryzen CPU

I'm an enthusiast who wanted to buy into this series before we even knew it was capable, most will find this unnecessary for mid-high tier 1440/4k gaming.  *EDIT #1* - For those who are interested, I've done more temperature and benchmark and found that enabling ECO Mode in AMD Ryzen Master software is a fantastic way to mitigate high temps

 I am no longer running Eco Mode via Ryzen Master.  The 5800X's price and performance position right now is slightly different from where it was at launch, and that difference is enough that if you are one of the people I just mentioned, then the 5800X is a pretty easy recommendation. Almost as easy as recommending that if you liked this video, go ahead and hit that button and get subscribed if you want to see more videos like this one.  As for the chip we're working with here, the Ryzen 7 5800X comes packed with all those goodies packed into 8 cores, 16 threads, with a base clock of 3.8GHz and a very tasty max boost clock of 4.7GHz. It also ships with 32Mb of L3 cache, has a TDP of just 105W, natively supports RAM up to 3200Mhz, though obviously you can go higher than that, and like every other Ryzen chip that I know of, is fully unlocked for overclocking

 At launch, the 5800X came in at $150 more than the 6-core 5600X, and an upgrade to the 12-core 5900X would've only cost you about a hundred bucks more. This made it very easy to recommend the 5600X for gamers and the 5900X for people who also use their systems for work, or like, even their Intel counterparts, seemingly leaving the 5800X in a very awkward middle-of-the-pack position. But that position has changed now that things have stabilized a bit and scalpers have had their fill. Now, the 5800X is a much more compelling chip for gamers and creatives alike at $394, or 7600 grand at Wootware, which means there's only about $121 premium going from the 5600X to the 5800X, and surprisingly, and sadly, going from the 5800X to the 5900X will cost you between $164 to $216 more dollars at the time of filming

 Which makes sense, because an all-core overclock stops AMD's precision boost and overdrive from automatically boosting higher in games. A per-core overclock is definitely the way to go if you want to overclock this bad boy. Now, clearly the 5800X is a gaming powerhouse and pretty dang decent for productivity too, but is it actually worth picking up? Well, if we're picking between it and the 11700K, then yes. While there are some arguments to be made for going with Team Blue here, integrated graphics being a pretty big one of those, the 5800X just has too big of a value advantage here

black air cooler tower instead. It keeps the chip cool during idle sessions. Gaming performance is beautiful and buttery smooth even at 4k at the cost of high temperatures. Max operating temperature is 90 C (~194 F), but I would still recommend to not cheap out on a cooler

  For reference, I had a Cryorig H7 air tower cooler on my i5-6500 and hoped to re-use it for the Ryzen CPU. Unfortunately, the heatsink and single fan was not enough, so I got a Noctua NH-U12A chromax.black air cooler tower instead. It keeps the chip cool during idle sessions

 I upgraded from a meager i5-6500 to a fire-breathing performance beast, and it's not even overclocked. With a base clock of 3.8 GHz and boost frequency up to 4.7 GHz, this is a hot-headed chip, and you're going to want a high-end cooler to go with it

Friendly Fire: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU Review & Benchmarks vs. 5600X & 5900X

Upgraded from a Node 202 to the Sliger SV540!

  It's a decent CPU upgrade from the 3700X. I'm getting roughly +20% more FPS from my games, on average. 5800X3D is a much better alternative, but it's priced at $444 as of this review's writing. 64% more cost for the 5800X3D for about 20% gains in gaming performance over the 5800X is not worth it

 PBO enabled and I'm hitting ~50C at idle and ~70C during gaming, with a 23C ambient temperature baseline. Temps can get as high as 88C if I run synthetic benchmarks like Prime95 or Cinebench.  It's a decent CPU upgrade from the 3700X. I'm getting roughly +20% more FPS from my games, on average

 5800X3D is a much better alternative, but it's priced at $444 as of this review's writing. 64% more cost for the 5800X3D for about 20% gains in gaming performance over the 5800X is not worth it.  Get the 5800X over the 5800X3D for it's better price/performance ratio over the 5800X3D.

7 GHz so a little bit slower than the Ryzen 9 chips on the maximum boost frequency as we typically see from AMD. You've got a 105 watt TDP and it comes without a bundled cooler which is a decision I'm perfectly fine with for this caliber of chip. It uses the same TSMC 7 nanometer process node and has 32 megabytes of L3 cache and 4 megabytes of level 2 cache and of course that 32 megs of L3 cache is because it's a single CCX design as opposed to the dual CCX design used on the Ryzen 9 chips of both the 12 core and 16 core which get you 64 megs of L3 cache and then price-wise it's £420 street availability here in the UK and I say availability in the modest sense because we know supply is very limited at the moment. Of course the $50 price increase has been a major talking point and it has been since the launch a few days ago

 I'd say the Ryzen 7 5800X does hold its own versus the Intel 10 core chip but it is a valid competitor. It's not like with the Ryzen 9 chips where we saw them blasting their Intel competitors out of the park in terms of overall performance and value. That's not the case here so the Intel competitor at this price point at least in the UK market does seem to give it slightly tough competition. So put simply we think the Ryzen 7 5800X is a really good well-balanced chip

 We still see TSMC 7 nanometer delivering the goods especially when backed up with the smart Zen 3 architecture. With all that said in the UK though the price is high 420. So I think that'll do it if we finish this off then the Ryzen 7 5800X offers really well balanced performance but its value and its pricing gives it really quite a tough position to fight in the market. If you're only interested in gaming the Ryzen 5 5600X with its 140 pounds or roughly 33% price decrease versus the Ryzen 7 is a better buy
