The Anker 777 Thunderbolt Docking Station is an exceedingly well-designed device. While the horizontally oriented silver unit is sleek and unobtrusive on a desktop, its compactness belies the plethora of ports packed into this powerful machine. The 777 connects to the laptop via a Thunderbolt 4 cable allowing 40 Gbps data transfer speed and 90 watts of power to charge the computer. The downstream Thunderbolt port supports 8k resolution at 30Hz or 5K @ 60Hz. However, the dock can accommodate three monitors with its HDMI ports. When running three monitors, the 777 still supports an astounding 4k at 60 Hz across all screens. An SD card reader, audio in/out, upstream and downstream Thunderbolt ports, and an on/off button are conveniently located on the front of the unit. On the back are ports that tend to be related to peripheries that stay attached to the dock. These are the 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, the 4 USB ports &#40;two 3.1, two 2.0&#41;, as well as the Gigabit Ethernet port and another downstream Thunderbolt port. 
We have few criticisms with the Anker 777, but we should acknowledge that this device will be overkill for many folks. The monitor refresh rate and resolution it supports are quite high, and if you don't have a 4K or 8K monitor, there's no point in paying the high price for this device. Additionally, the dock is for late-model computers. If you don't have a computer that supports Thunderbolt 4, you may not want to make this investment. However, if you plan to buy a new computer in the near future, this would be a great investment as it will remain current for quite some time.

 It appears power goes only to the USB-C ports and not to the USB-A and HDMI ports. I can power my new Lenovo Carbon X1 laptop and I can recharge my keyboard and headphones with the USB-C ports, but there is no power to the USB-A ports and I assume to the HDMI ports. No devices are recognized by my laptop despite the power connection working. Multiple reboots of laptop and dock, switching the cable around, flipping the connectors, swapping cables -- nothing makes a difference

  UPDATE: Anker proactively reached out to me in January a week after I wrote my first two-star review, which was two months after I bought the dock. They offered to swap my unit with a new one, and I decided to take them up on it. Maybe mine was a lemon. The new unit is identical for hardware as far as I can tell, so maybe the firmware is different

 Before shipping the new one, I also did as they requested and did more fiddling around with cables and reboots to make it work right. Turns out if the unit is getting all wackado, you shutdown your computer, unplug the dock from it, take all the cables out of the dock including the power cable, let it sit till all charge is gone (I ate lunch), then come back and incrementally plug everything back in. I rebooted my computer twice without the dock, I powered up the dock with nothing but the AC cable in it and back down, then plug just the dock into my computer so it recognizes the dock, then reboot with the dock plugged in, then shut down the computer, power off the dock, count to 10, power up the dock, plug in my two monitors, webcam, Jabra speakerphone, power up the dock, power up the laptop, and things seem to work well.  By the way, I'm using a brand new Lenovo X1 Carbon that is Thunderbolt 4 compatible, two 27" Asus monitors (one is 4K but both are set to 1920x1080), a new Logitech webcam, and a Jabra USB speakerphone

 No devices are recognized by my laptop despite the power connection working. Multiple reboots of laptop and dock, switching the cable around, flipping the connectors, swapping cables -- nothing makes a difference. The unit is definitely powered on, definitely worked (in its intermittent way) yesterday, and is not working at all today. I bought this in October and it appears I have until the end of this month to return it

  At this point forced to admit it must be the Anker dock. Very dissapointed, love their other products. Thought this would be safe.  *Edit* Reported the issue to Anker, and to their credit they sent me out a new one after trying to troubleshoot with me

 Then I tried connecting the monitors direct to laptop, they worked perfectly. The issue only persists when connected via the dock. No changing of the cables, ports, monitors or trying any other variable changes the result. I really hate to admit it, but i think now the issue is just the dock

Intermittent Failure - Dissapointing

I have had this dock for over 4 months now and have been only mildly satisfied with it. I want to love it as it's one of the few 4k TB4 docks that comes with USB 2.0 ports. Why is an under-powered port a positive? Because I use a Logitech MX mouse and keyboard with a Mac and I use the USB receiver to connect them to overcome the issues associated with connecting third party accessories to a Mac via bluetooth

  Now the cons. Honestly, this dock is just unreliable when waking up my monitor which is a brand new LG 4k display. I am connected through a high quality HDMI cable but getting the monitor to work is always a gamble. Generally, I can see the monitor power on but nothing shows on the display and it goes back to sleep

 I have no idea why, but it's a real problem. So that is a big positive for this dock. another is the on/off switch. I know I could just unplug my computer but it's a nice quality of life feature, especially if I am having a connection issue

Could Be Great

 However, nowhere on their site nor on the amazon page do they clearly label this limitation. It's only inside the product on page 8 of the manual that you won't read that this is documented.  I did not buy this dock so that I could have 2 external displays showing the same thing. I honestly can't imagine this is what anyone wants

Does not support multiple HDMI monitors for OS X

 If both monitors are plugged in when I connect my laptop (one monitor via HDMI and one via USB-C, an annoying detail), the HDMI one just flickers and never resolves. The only workaround I've found is leaving the USB-C one unplugged until the HDMI one resolves, then plugging in the USB-C one. After that, just make sure the display never sleeps or the whole process needs to be repeated over again. Even still, the USB-A connections and audio out are unstable -- I hear pops on my external speakers, and the LED strip that I run via a USB-A 3

0 port (yeah Blinkstick!) drops its connection every 15 minutes or so.  Look, the build quality on this thing is phenomenal, and it *technically* works once I do my little HDMI dance. For $300+, though, it should work flawlessly by just plugging the damn TB4 cable into my laptop. Here's hoping Intel and Anker push some patches to the firmware sooner than later, because I'll lose my patience with this pretty quickly

 If it's the dock, it's going back.  I appreciate the quality of Anker products and have relied on them for charging for years. I hope their quality hasn't run out with this product.

This dock has all the connections I need to drive my 14" MacBook Pro M1-Pro through dual 27" 4K Lenovo ThinkVision displays. I've even developed an appreciation for the $30 stand you have to purchase separately if you want to reliably use this dock in a vertical orientation.  But here's the rub: The monitor connection via USB-C is flawless, however the monitor connected to the HDMI port will flicker and turn off for up to five seconds at a time randomly (and infrequently, but enough to be a frustration when on a Webex or otherwise doing work). Solid Dock But HDMI Connection Has Frustrating Flicker

 With this dock however, I am struggling to find the value in a 330.00 product that does not work as well as my unpowered 4-port hub (also Anker and it cost 17.00).  On my dock setup - I have network, keyboard, mouse and HDMI connected, which is great

Struggling to find the value...

This is a nice docking station and really like the Thunderbolt 4 connection, but there are two areas that it falls short in...  1

 I would plug in the cable, it would work for a while, and then mysteriously disconnect and would not reconnect until everything was rebooted.  In the end I had to get the "Plugable 4K USB C Docking Station Triple Monitor with 100W Charging" dock, which fixed both issues with no hassle. The new dock is only USB C (no Thunderbolt), but much less hassle.
