The XTX50 regulator can be converted from a right handed hose configuration (as supplied from the APEKS factory) to a left handed one. This feature is known as the Reversible Venturi System (RVS). Changing the regulator to a left handed configuration is both quick and simple and can be performed by any APEKS Authorised Service Technician. The XTX50 incorporates the Diver Changeable Exhaust system (DCE) that gives divers the ability to change from the larger exhaust tee (supplied as standard) to a smaller version. The wider exhaust tee is good for minimal bubble interference (essential for underwater photography) and a narrow exhaust tee offers a smaller, more compact regulator.

 It's a lot lighter and more flexible than the traditional rubber hoses as the name suggests. And we get the green hose protectors as well. Again sort of following the theme making it really obvious which second stage you're switching to. Ok, so it comes in and the first thing is that this little nut on the regulator it actually has a blank space and this is if you want to fit a bolt snap that's kind of dumb with the o-ring and the zip tie technique

 So as you can see it's got the green and yellow coloration so you can't mix it up even when you're in the water. It makes it really obvious which second stage you're about to swap to. It's made in a really clean environment so it's got special greases and special o-rings inside of it. The hose and everything is O2 cleaned so you can use this for high concentrations

 You can dial it all the way in to make it really stiff when it's kind of in storage then when you want to use it you can unscrew it make it a little bit lighter to breathe to whatever you want. So the exhaust tee is a two-part adjustable removal tee so this is the larger of the tees so that actually pushes it out much further away behind your mask so it clears your mask the bubbles just go all the way around the back but you can swap it out for the smaller compact version to make it much rounder because again it's nitrox it comes in green but they're nice if you want a compact little second stage it just kind of rounds it off really easy you can swap them back sort of quickly but yeah that's an option for you you aren't forced to have this sort of larger tee. The ComfortBike mouthpiece is a lot smaller than a standard mouthpiece it doesn't go all the way down to the back of your jaw and this little bridge over the top and the way that they've kind of molded it means that you don't have to bite down very hard to hold it in position this bridge and the shape of the mouthpiece actually holds it in your mouth without having to bite down very hard which means that you're not going to get jaw fatigue especially on longer dies. So all in all is a very smart regulator this is one of my favorite configurations because of that swivel turret the XX50 is tried and tested all around the world it's real super tough second stage and you get really nice smooth breathe it's pneumatically balanced so it always gives you just a nice breathe this is the Apex Nitrox version of the XX50 with a DSP first stage thanks for watching and safe diving

 The Apeks XTX50 Nitrox Regulator is an Oxygen clean version of the XTX 50 / DST regulator with an M26 thread on the 1st stage.  If you dive with EANx mixes higher than 40% O2 then you need the Nitrox version that has special material O-Rings and greases that can cope with higher O2 percentages up to 100%.

Nitrox equipment will be supplied in Europe in accordance with the EN 144-3 and the EN13949 which states that equipment sold in CEE (European Community) countries over 21% and up to 100% will be manufactured with the special M26 fitting.  These are specially cleaned and assembled in Apeks' purpose-built class J (10,000) clean room using oxygen safe components and lubricants.

 To change it to a G5/8 thread you'll need an M26 Adaptor.

Apeks XTX50 Nitrox Regulator Review - YouTube

First dive I had to use my emergency regulator because the main one was so hard to pull.  


Second dive I had a new regulator but I started to get light headed after 20 minutes because it was so difficult to breathe through it. I switched to my emergency regulator but it was almost impossible to even get a sip out of it so I went back to the main one. My instructor switched BCDs with me and I used his for the rest of the dive.  


Third dive I have a third regulator. I was swimming normally and breathing deep. 33 minutes into the dive I had 500 PSI remaining and my instructor and buddy had 2500 PSI each. I swear it was like the regulator was losing air as I was exhaling.  


Fourth dive I had a new, fourth regulator, which I broke a leak during my second pre-dive safety check. So I took my instructor's respirator for the last one after he put a piece of tape over the leak and used that one.  


I'm gonna buy my own regulator and carry it around because idk if I want to put my safety into the hands of cheapskates in developing countries, no offense to the instructor but the diving school owner must be a cheap bastard.

Everybody asks this question, but I think you all enjoy seeing the posts. I am a warm weather novice diver, getting ready for a trip to Bonaire. Making my first big buy as soon as I can summon the will to click the purchase button.  I’m never going cave diving, setting foot in water under 60°, go deeper tan 120’, or rescuing Thai soccer teams.  I might nitrox some day.

Getting my own gear

Everything was as advertised.

 So this is a overbalanced first stage. It's environmentally sealed. So we got this kind of sealing in the top here. This allows sort of the ambient pressure to affect the balancing of the regulator, but it doesn't allow any contaminants and water to actually get into the moving parts

The Apeks XTX 50 and XTX 40 Octopus regulator package is an excellent set for divers who need ultra-reliability and performance in even the coldest of conditions.

The DST first stage uses a high-performance diaphragm design with the additional benefits of an environmental seal for cold water protection. The DST is fitted with a swiveling low-pressure turret that houses four low-pressure ports. Two high-pressure ports can also be found on the main body of the first stage.

The XTX 50 is supplied with a flexible braided hose for improved safety and prolonged hose life. The second stage features diver adjustable inhalation and venturi controls to modify the performance and safety characteristics of the valve. An interchangeable exhaust cover gives the diver the choice between a wide cover designed to deflect the exhaled gas away from the face or a much more compact cover for reduced drag and weight. The housing is also reversible which allows a technician to swap the hose handing from right to left if required.

The XTX 40 is supplied with a longer yellow braided hose and high visibility trim and from cover. The octopus uses the same internal mechanism and provides the same level of performance as the XTX 50 but lacks the external inhalation adjustment and the additional interchangeable exhaust cover (compact cover fitted as standard). The housing is reversible as per the XTX 50.

Hi, wanted to get more opinions here. I’ve been diving for 4 years with more than 100 dives done, all in tropical climate, using secondhand BCD and reg. I’m planning to buy a new backplate wing BCD and new regulator. 

For regulators, my dive instructor strongly recommended Apeks. Based on reviews that I’ve read so far, the one that falls within my price range is the XL4 - I also like that it’s lightweight for travel and has a small profile. 

However, really love how clean the XL4+ looks (the white color is amazing). Any thoughts on whether the XL4+ is really worth the extra $200 or so? Honestly I live in a tropical country so unsure if I’ll need the cold climate features of the XL4+.

And any other recommendations on good regs within same price range?
