I was a die-hard Android user\* for a long time... I had a note 3 when I decided no more, I think... anyway...I was so mad at Verizon & Samsung for the constant delay in OS updates I said forget it - went to AT&T, got an iPhone 7+ and never looked back. AT&T and Apple have treated me better than anyone before lol.

I truly love the Apple ecosystem/walled garden/whatever you want to call it. For my personal preferences/taste, Apple more than makes me happy so I'm sticking with them for the foreseeable future :)

Lack or limited support in android made me move about 6 years ago. Although things are better now in android it's nowhere near the same as iOS. 

We've recently found out that iOS 15 will support iphone 6S; a phone that was last on sale 5 years ago. That's fantastic support. 

It doesn't look like android will ever match that.

Main reason for me was regular iOS updates. I switched to iPhone from a Galaxy S8. That was the best smartphone IMO at the time I bought it. My S8 got two OS updates, but the last one is from before the pandemic. So not only does the hardware get old, but also the software. Meanwhile the iPhone 6S is STILL getting updates.

Also, over the years Android phones kept getting bigger and bigger. That's a deal breaker for me. The standard iPhone got a little bigger after the XS, but it’s still not as outrageous as most current Android phones.

I don't care as much as I did about customization, either. All you can change on the iPhone home screen is the wallpaper and widgets, and that's fine for me now. The apps also work better and the designs make them look like they were made for the same OS (Android app looks vary a tad more). iOS has effortless good looks compared to Android.

The main reasons I use an iPhone are to use AirDrop and FaceTime with my family. Other than that, I could easily use Android, since the apps I use are cross-platform.

I asked my mam if I could try her iPad out, and I was blown away by the software. I really liked it. Up until that point, I ruled out Apple products, because I deemed they weren’t worth the extra money. The only Apple products I've owned beforehand were the 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle and the 4th Gen iPod Nano, which I hadn’t used since 2013. I still have my iPod Nano laying around though. But anyway, I really liked my mam's iPad Air. I also liked the fact that it had a bigger screen, and declared that my next tablet would have a bigger screen than my puny 7 inch Nexus. Google released the Pixel C tablet, which was not cheap, and that left brands like Samsung or Asus as the only affordable Android tablets. Those tablets did not have long term update support, which was a dealbreaker for me.

Anyway, my dad tried out my mother's iPad and he decided to get one for himself, which further increased my interest in getting one. I went to a Compu B shop (my country’s equivalent of Apple stores) to try out the iPads Air 1 and Air 2, and I became even more impressed with them. So I wanted one. Because my birthday is close to Christmas, and because I was turning 21, I decided to combine my birthday present and my Christmas present into one present, and got a 64GB iPad Air 2 on Christmas morning. It was worth it. I loved my iPad, and it instantly became my favourite item. It wasn’t long before I no longer cared if my next phone was Android or an iPhone.

Halfway through 2016, my HTC phone started to become a nuisance. The battery life became terrible, it slowed down, and it began to crash. I vowed never to get a cheap or a mid-range phone again. I graduated from college and got a job, and began saving up for a new phone. I looked at different phones and I liked the iPhones. I also liked the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the HTC 10, but the 6s was growing on me. In September that year, Apple released the 7, reduced the price of the 6s, and also upgraded the basic storage of the 6s to 32GB. After a subsequent week of research and debate, I went down to Compu B and bought an iPhone 6s. It was a difficult adjustment, but I got used to owning an iPhone after a few weeks. I’ve owned an iPhone ever since.

I could go back to Android. I think it’s a great operating system. But I’m not willing to get readjusted again. Plus, I like the continuity with my phone and tablet, as well as the convenience of iCloud and the years of OS updates. My next phone will most likely be an iPhone. If the new iPhones this year suck, I will most likely get an iPhone 12.

Every time I had an issue with my Androids at always a crucial moment, it was always the iPhone that just worked. As plain and simple as iPhones are, they just always worked when I needed them to.

I tried to go back to just Android but would almost immediately come back to iPhone. I fully committed to iPhone because they always had the better camera/video apps and accessories. Then I was back to rocking two phones (iPhone & Android to iPhone & iPhone to iPhone & Android) because I do still like whatever cool Android (Samsung, Pixel, gaming Androids) coming out for its new tech/gadgetry.

But if I could only have one, it would be the whole Apple ecosystem (MacBook, AppleTV, iPads, iPhones, Watches, AirPods) especially with how there seem to be more apps better optimized for iOS. And again, back to the stupendous amount of accessories including camera accessories and apps like Filmic Pro and Lumafusion.

1- Samsung stopped supporting the phone, and I couldn’t update the OS. Apps became buggy. Apple supports their products better and longer. 

2- with android you get a million and one custom settings. It seemed like every time i powered down the phone, or an app would update….many of the settings would change. It was annoying. I’m not a power user, and don’t need a million and one settings. The phone also had TWO virtual assistants. Google, and Bixby. 


3- I just liked iOS better. Everything was/is just easier to use. I definitely liked iMessage better than the Verizon and Samsung message apps. 
And the amount of bloatware on the Samsung. Holy shit! And most of it couldn’t be deleted. 

4- as AirPods became a thing…i like the way iPhone syncs with my AirPods and beats. I also have a HomePod mini…same thing. 

5- I like CarPlay. I’m sure the android version is fine too. But I like CarPlay.

Well i have both, oneplus 8 and iphone 12 pro max both have different purpose, one for job and business one for social media and entertainment

For me it was mainly the update cycle and because Apple promised to ramp up the privacy game. I wanted to like the Pixel line, but support is non existent where I am and there's  alot more cheaper & better alternatives that make the Pixel a pointless buy.

Samsung phones take forever to update. I see an update in Europe and then like 2 months later it get's released where I am if I'm lucky. Most of the time they skip updates. If I'm shelling out big money for a device, I want to make sure that I get the most of it and that's why the 5 year cycle of Iphones appealed so much to me.

apple care and apple worldwide assistance. I switched to a Samsun Galaxy for while, i broke it in the US, i looked for assistance and i was told "sorry, you bought it in Europe, we can't fix it". So, i rolled back to iphones and i am not going to change again.

This might be a lengthy one. 

TL;DR: Android and Android phones pushed me to Apple. 

At first, iMessage captured my curiosity. Then, around 2015 , it seemed like reasons started adding up, leading me to switch.

1. Back then you had to pay for phone hotspot. So I would hack my android to get it for free , because I did not think it right that I should be charged to use a feature that was already built in my phone.

2. Bloatware was a massive problem back then. I hated when a company would put on crap I didn’t want and it wasn’t easily removable. While I could remove it with root, I felt like it was getting out of hand and harder and harder to root my phone to fix it. 

3. As other stated, Apple isn’t perfect, but but they value privacy more than most others. Androids where plagued with apps that where sketchy. Verizon helped push me off the edge when they installed borderline spyware as bloatware on android devices. They couldn’t do it on Apple. 

4. Device support on android was atrocious. Depending on which phone, the company would support or wouldn’t. If you didn’t get the right device, you would either not get an android update, or you had to wait ridiculous amount of time. 

5. I got tired of always having to root my phone just to get features or a version of android. When something becomes a constant chore, it isn’t as fun anymore. In some cases you had to pay for root. I get devs need to make money, but it was a strike in my mind. 

6. Even back then, the Apple ecosystem was way more enticing. Everything just worked so well together. I like the ease of use and the fluidity. 

I became a software dev for the 9-5 in 2015, so I didn’t want to work on code at work, and borderline work on my phone at home. I wanted a simple interface, that was reliable, and I honestly was tired of being the only green bubble in my group of friends. 

Everything added up and I finally jumped and got an iPhone 7. Haven’t looked back since.

Switched to iPhone 12 after over a decade of android usage. I was a big android nerd, I used to unlock the bootloader and root the phone (kinda like jailbreak but gave you even more freedom), I was basically changing the operating system of the phone every week, toyed with all kinds of different skins and home launcher until I found the perfect setup and perfect performance/battery efficiency ratio. After trying the iPhone 12 I realize I never quite found it on android, but that’s another story. 

Anyway what determined me to switch was that I grew up and I didn’t have time for that shit anymore, I needed a reliable phone now which simply works out of the box without headaches. There are still great devices on android out there but they just don’t have the polish of iPhone, even in 2021 and I realized that only after using an iPhone for a few months and then I wanted to try the galaxy tab s7. Great tablet with great hardware but I immediately noticed the small details that makes iOS great. I always kind of hated how closed iOS was but I realize for the average user it doesn’t matter, people mostly browse the net and stay on social media and it works absolutely great on that. What I also hated on android was that the manufacturers fell behind with the hardware. Apple may be late to release some features that existed for a long time on android but the os is very polished and optimized and then you have a processor that’s like 2 generations better then the latest snapdragon or whatever. And then you have the long software support and the longevity of the products. My cousin had at the time an iPhone 7 Plus that’s still running damn good even today and I was very surprised when I tried it. It was pretty beaten with scuffs and scratches on the display but it still ran so good and fluid and had the latest iOS while my s7 edge hadn’t received an update in years and felt pretty sluggish (and I think they’re from around the same year). So I said fuck it lets try it, and I have no regrets. 

Even after almost half a year of owning this device I’m sometimes just scrolling the screen right and left and closing and opening apps just to admire how snappy and fluid it feels. It never once had a hiccup or freeze and for the exception of updates that restarted the phone I never had to reboot it, I think you could run this thing for 5 years straight and it would never need a restart or freeze and it would run the same as the day you unboxed it. 

And then after getting used with it I started to appreciate the awesome privacy protection, how awesome iCloud is for backing everything up and then I went on and bought an iPad Air 4, an Apple Watch 5 and the AirPods Pro. And they work great together.

Honestly, I just get whatever phone I think is best at the time. I've never felt locked into an ecosystem. 

When I moved from the iPhone 6 to a Pixel 2XL, I did it for the camera. I wanted to be able to take good pictures on vacation without lugging around a DSLR, and the Pixel 2XL's camera was incredible. Then, I fell in love with the features. Autofill from messages, Lastpass autofill, PiP, splitscreen multitasking, widgets, more customizable text scaling, always on display with ambient song detection, etc. were the big things keeping me on board. 

When the Pixel 2XL came out, iPhones felt way behind their Samsung and Google counterparts. When the Pixel 4XL came out, it improved upon the 2XL in every way (except fingerprint sensor) and I have loved it. But now? Especially with iOS 15 on the horizon, every feature I liked in Android will be in iOS except for Always on display and ambient song detection. 

All that said; the big driving factor for me was Google's QA/QC and customer service. My first Pixel 4XL's battery expanded and separated the back plate within a year. I got a replacement, and it did the same thing in <6 months and they won't replace it because it's not under warranty anymore. So, I'm done dealing with that bullshit. 

Now, the only things I'll miss moving away from android are the always on display with ambient song recognition, google assistant (which we all know is better than siri) and stock google photos integration. 

Instead, I'll get super good Apple TV integration, earbuds that are more consistent, spatial audio, FAR more optimized apps with better UX/UI, better video recording quality, some really cool mac integrations, iMessages, Facetime (which is much better than Duo), Dark Sky weather, magsafe, and longer support for software updates. 

More than anything, I LOVE how much control Apple is giving us over our privacy.

Also, I'm really fucking tired of all these curved screens.

Your question treats the situation as though Android is inherently superior and therefore eventually everyone is going to realize this and switch. This is not the case. Most people who use iPhone do so because it meets their needs and desires better than Android does. Meanwhile, people who use Android do so because it’s the right fit for them. There’s no inexorable pull from one to the other. They’re both damned good products.

A while ago I switched from Apple to android. I had 30 days to return it and only pay $25. 

On day 29 I switched back to Apple because Android wasn’t quite baked yet. It’s probably better now but now I don’t care so much.
