When paired with an iPhone, the Apple Watch Ultra is powerful. The ability to activate and use many of the functions of your phone is a great tool. Whether talking on the phone or sending a quick text, the UI found on this device is fluid and functional. If you have been looking for a GPS-enabled smartwatch that's smarter than the rest, this is the model for you. While it's not as "ultra" as some of the other more rugged models, it's undoubtedly the best designed.
Battery life suffers on the Ultra due to the super bright always-on display, and the modes don't feel as tailored to athletics as some of the other models in our lineup,  but the smart features far surpass the competition. This watch is for those that want both excellent GPS tracking while also owning the functionality of an Apple Watch. If we could afford more than one watch, this would surely be on our list, but it's not our first choice for certain kinds of outings. However, for those that don't find themselves needing multi-day battery life, this could be the model for you.

Apple Watch Ultra Review: Worth It Or Nah?

What watch do you wear?

 The Ultra FEELS much heavier on my wrist than the stainless steel (smaller) AWs. And it sits noticeably higher. It would be a problem to wear the Ultra with normal long sleeved shirt cuffs buttoned. Functionally the Ultra is arguably improved for some edge use cases -- satellite SOS, auto crashes, ocean treasure diving, a pocket siren (!) etc

Meh. A stainless steel AW8 is probably a better choice for most folks.

 It is sporty, it looks industrial, I do love that flat top display, and the crown guard also looks industrial and it really minimized how much false Siri activations I got when I'm having my hands on the ground pushing against something. I don't really like the color of the action button, but it is very useful to have. I also really like how loud and clear the speakers are. They are really nice for calls, both for me to hear whoever I'm talking to, as well as for them to hear me with those microphones

 The same thing goes with the size. Now it's not too big for me and I got used to it, but for many other people it just is and some people have returned it because of that. And honestly, if Apple could just give us better battery life in a normal Apple watch which has a lower price point, that would be amazing even if they had to cut out some of the features to put in better battery life. Now I know they talked about adding a low power mode later, but so many things get shut off just take a look at this list including getting text until you actually press and turn on the watch to get it to connect

 Now I really wish that this watch looked a little less sporty like the leaks we had for it and that Apple gave it multiple color choices. Now sure keep the plain titanium because it's unpainted, it's the most durable, but if Apple gave us some options that would be really nice. The same thing goes with the size. What Watch Do You Wear?

 I weigh about 145 lbs with a 6.5 inch wrist and have until now always worn the smaller of the Apple Watches on offer, most recently the Apple Watch Series 6 40mm with a S/M sport band. I am at the stage in my life where it’s getting harder to read text on a small screen, so this year I decided to upgrade to a larger Apple Watch. It didn’t make sense to me anymore to have a great watch capable of providing all kinds of useful information only to struggle with the smaller screen, especially as I am frequently in situations where it is much more convenient to rely on my watch than to get my phone out

 My watch came with the Alpine Loop in Starlight, Size M and for the first couple of hours I was sure I was going to return the watch. I really dislike the band - the weight of the watch is such that the band has to be quite tight on me, or the watch moves around too much for my comfort - but the material of the band, especially at the edges, just feels rough and scratchy and I found it much too irritating to my skin to wear the watch securely. I also don’t know how the Alpine Loop could ever be kept clean - the material doesn’t wipe easily and retains water. I want a comfortable band that can get wet and dry easily and that I can clean off with a wipe

While Samsung prides itself in adding battery capacity, a sapphire crystal glass, and removing the turning bezel, Apple has thrown down the gauntlet by introducing a 10ATM, and 40 meter depth scuba ISO EN13319 dive computer, complete with the software suite. In addition it can be used for water skiing. I've been a Wear OS proponent and simply loved the turning bezel design of the Samsung watches, but Apple's performance is now beyond Samsung's reach. Far beyond. Recent scientific testing shows the HRM of the Apple watch is far more precise than Samsung's. In addition, Apple's recently added sleep tracking, and even though it's in beta mode more than doubles the accuracy compared to the Samsung tech. In addition the new Apple Watch Ultra adds something I've wanted for a long time, 10 atm, and it measures the depth of the dive, as well as the temperature of the water, and the screen goes to 2000 nits brightness. In addition it measures the body's temperature when you sleep. It also adds an emergency 86db siren, crash detection, in addition to the fall detection, and automatic international SOS calling. Samsung's staff must be challenged by this, and hopefully they'll bring their apps and specs to par. At least I hope so.
