I bought a Samsung Galaxy Watch Active a couple of years ago because my Pebble was showing its age and Rebble wasn't cutting it anymore. I just wanted something waterproof, lasts at least 2-3 days, easy to use, and gives me notifications. I'm probably easier to please when it comes to features than most people. It did the job just fine imo

Android watch ecosystem really needs a Google Pixel Watch. My Samsung Galaxy Watch Active died today and I looked for something new and it honestly doesn't seem like anything has changed in the last couple of years.

 During an outdoor run, the Active2 logged 1.13 miles to the Stryd's 1.0 mile, for a difference of 0.13

 That's less than half the amount of time I squeezed out of the Active, which lasted 27 hours on a single charge. I tested it again by wearing it to bed fully charged and in Goodnight mode, and it was down to 53 percent after just five hours. Another night, I wore it to bed for longer and it was down to just 80 percent. Given the inconsistency of these results, I'm going to continue testing the battery and update this section when I am able to determine an average result

 And with up to five days of battery life, you also don't have to worry about charging it every night. For iPhone users, meanwhile, we recommend the new Apple Watch Series 5, which features better fitness tracking and for more apps than the Active2.

 The 40mm version fits nicely on my smaller wrist and the metal finish looks premium compared with the first Galaxy Watch Active. The aluminum version is available in black, silver or pink gold with a synthetic rubber strap, while the stainless-steel version comes in a silver, black or gold finish, with a leather band. The LTE version is only available in stainless steel. The color AMOLED screen is bright and easy to see in direct sun, as long as you have the brightness cranked up to its maximum

 I also noticed on a different day, when I had the display set to always-on during a workout, using the running coach with GPS and listening to downloaded music from Spotify over Bluetooth, the battery went from 40% to just 14% in 30 minutes. So do bear in mind this watch isn't invincible. If you have a Galaxy phone like the S20 Plus or Note 20 Ultra that offers wireless power sharing, you can charge the watch from the back of your phone (although it is slow). The Active 2 also has Samsung Pay, although using it to tap and pay will only work at NFC-based terminals

 It has improved heart-rate tracking over the original Galaxy Watch Active and is compatible with Android and iOS, although you don't get all the features if you pair with an iPhone.  The coach tells you to speed up or slow down based on your current pace and it even gives you semimotivational comments ranging from, "How are you feeling?" to, "Try to smile if you can," which was equally infuriating and hilarious during the home stretch of my run. Would I use it more than once or twice? Probably not in its current state. What I liked most was being able to hear my average heart rate and my pace after every mile, but I would want to be able to change the voice and customize the prompts it gave me to make it really helpful. While the running coach may be a take-it-or-leave-it feature, I found the most useful fitness feature was actually the improved heart rate monitor

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review:
        A sleek smartwatch that's better value than the Galaxy Watch 3

**TL;DR**: In my view, if you cannot find a great trade-in deal you may be better of sticking with your Tizen watch until the bugs are sorted out, missing features are added and prices go down. For the record, the move cost me £9 (around $12) and I am happy at this price, however if it cost me &gt;$100 I would wait. 

\- The battery saving mode on the GW4 only offers a few extra hours compared to extra days on the GWA2

Here are some of my observations from moving from the Active2 44mm to the Galaxy Watch4 44mm LTE. They may be useful to you if you are thinking of upgrading.   

\+ Raise wrist to wake, AOD and exercise tracking seem to have a smaller impact on battery life on the GW4 compared to the GWA2

 It's a security risk, up to you.  I've been playing with this watch for about five days so far, still changing settings every day as I find better ways to arraign things. The watch itself has Bluetooth, GPS, and WIFI, which is pretty cool. you can connect to your home WIFI(import networks and passwords from phone)which will let you leave the phone on the table, yet stay connected even when you're out of BT range

(stairs climbed,for one) It counts all those times I climb a ladder in a day(live on a ladder)and that's really cool to know. Also doing that as a workout will be cool, though I haven't tried it yet.  Now, the watch. Where to begin

 When I changed the volume in the app, nothing really changed. Probably me, we'll see.  If your wrist can fit it, get the 44mm, it has a 50 percent larger battery, and costs the same. Charging disc works well, and sticks to the watch, and any other metal part in reach, with a magnet

 Two things I noticed is that it seems to act like I tried to pause the workout, even while I was just walking along.(workout started/stopped from watch). And when started from the app, nothing shows up on watch face related to the started workout. It may be that you have to swipe to the Health App specific screen that can be added from the phone, but you'd think that it would switch on it's own

You'll need that "memory like an Elephant" to use it effectively.

This is a rather annoying take by The Verge.  They declare it locked into Samsung because:

1.  "It is unclear if Samsung will ever make Google Assistant available in place of Bixby."  No, they've made clear it will be available.  

2.  Samsung Pay.  People are already using Google Pay on this.  Non issue.  

Beyond that they seem to be mad that you... have to install apps to control the watch?  So what?  I just bought a bluetooth speaker.  To control anything, guess what you need?  The app.  Robot vacuum has an app.  It is just a non-issue to install Samsung Wearable to set up and use the watch.  Same with Samsung Health.  

I really think the better description of it all is that Samsung, as maker of both the watch and Galaxy phones, has taken the opportunity to optimize some things for their phones, like importing settings, etc.  But that isn't the same as lock-in, and for the most part, after setting it up the watch should work similarly across Android devices.  

Unless I missed it, they complain about ecosystem lock-in without catching the things that actually DO require a Galaxy phone: ECG, blood oxygen.  I haven't heard anyone talk about this, but it seems the reason those are isolated to Galaxy devices may be regulatory: the FDA considers the watch a medical device as to those functions, and I'm guessing they have to be validated on different phones?  Hence why Samsung has validated it on their own phones.  I understand this is why some functions are separated out into the Health Monitor app as well, and why some features are region locked.  That's a pain, sure.  Though I will say that the novelty of the ECG wore off quickly for me; I'm sure there are some people who use it more.  

I've got a Galaxy phone and a Watch Active2, but my prior phone was a Pixel and I wouldn't have any heartache about pairing up the GW4 with a Pixel.  I'd just... download the apps? As a dedicated Apple Watch user the hardware of Samsung’s smart watches is right up there with what’s on my wrist. Samsung’s watches are beautiful, super customizable, round like a ACTUAL watch, and there are so so many different watch faces to choose from compared to the paltry (also pathetic) selection the Apple Watch offers.

The Verge's review of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic: It's great... for Samsung users

  Garmin watches. Neither Garmin watch that I owned could ply music direct to earbuds. No matter what I tried. For some reason, everytime I tried to set this feature uo, it failed

 So far I have owned a Garmin Vivoactive 4, Garmin Venu, Huawei GT 2 (2 of them), Fitbit Blaze, Galaxy Active 2, Apple SE, and a host of watches for under $100 that promise the world (but give very little.)  Lets talk..

 Unfortunately I don't live in China where this watch works. In the usa this watch will only count active calories and is extremely arbitrary and capricous regarding how many you are going to get. Frustrating as hell. Don't bother with customer service

I think it depends if you have an iPhone or Android based phone. I had a galaxy watch and it was superb when paired to Android phone. As soon as I switched to iPhone, a lot of the functionality was lost because Apple health didn’t recognize the watch data well (if at all, can’t remember).

Series 7 should be released this month. I would wait and see what’s new. I think Apple Watch is the way to go. It’s seamless experience and it’s amazing hardware.

The new Galaxy Watch with Android OS is sure a great watch. But I guess you have an iPhone. Then you should get an Apple Watch. Android Wear is limited on iOS. 

I have mine apple watch since november and loving it. My sister which had longer an iPhone than me, they bought now al o an apple watch after my recommendation and loving it too.
