 I can get in there and get my first aid kit out without having to open the pack up and take everything out to get some of these lower items that you don't use on a regular basis. The top is a roll top which makes it really nice for opening things up and getting to items in here. Internal: It's a nice color inside, so it's gray. A light gray

 I like these because they're smaller than some of the other backpacks that have big ribbon so it makes the pack lighter I can clip on my hat. It's got this nice outside pocket where I can store some snacks other essentials. It's nice having that outside pack area also on the straps. I have storage here also

 I wouldn't use any other pack at this point. The only other thing I think I would change on these backpacks is where the sternum straps are. I might make these a little looser with these cords because they're kind of hard to clip on and you might think about changing the color because they're hard to see. Also, it's black on black and like I said, it's might be hard to hook these up

2. The sternum and hip belts loosen after a few minutes on trail, which required me to adjust every now and then. Not ideal if your bag is heavy. 

 Literally every step that I took, it made a loud creaking sound. It’s gotten so bad that I started wearing headphones and listening to music while I hiked. When hiking with friends, I'd literally have to stop to hear them. Looking at other reviews, it seems this is a problem inherent with the Aerios line, regardless of capacity

1. The strap system is well designed with a ton of organization options. It uses the same strap system from the packs trail runners wear so its wide and sits on your shoulders and chest comfortably. The hip belt is also constructed similarly

A lot of people say it’s the back panel, but I couldn’t fully diagnose the issue. It might seem like it’s one of those “first world problems” type of critique, but if you’re like me and you like to go into the backcountry for some peace and quiet - you’d want to light this bag on fire after a few km’s

 but then I soon quickly found out the straps are there so you just cinch it down. like so once it's cinched down, you can leave it cinched down and you can access stuff. I'm just uncinching it to show you what happens here. You can undo the zip and get inside and get stuff also on the inside

 I mean, it probably has two reasons as well, because nylon would cost more than elasticated cord, so I'll cover the pockets. The back is called aeroform. It can be called what it's like, but I've used the Sap and I can tell you that it's really comfortable and I don't get a very sticky back. It's got a mesh honeycomb here and it seems to work really well

 My knees are old and I don't. I don't have many problems with the sack. I find it extremely comfortable. You know, I don't get any pains in my ribs, etc

Review of the Arc'teryx Aerios 45 Backpack

Very light weight, highly configurable, many tie points, very nice mesh back, lots of pockets. I especially liked the two wing pockets on either side of the pack that are easily reachable while wearing the pack and capable of hold a Nalgene, gloves or even a raincoat or jacket. Another very nice feature is a side zipper that runs the length of the pack and enables you to retrieve something from the bottom of the pack without having to empty everything.

 I was not a fan of this pack as I didn't find it very comfortable with a 15 pound load much less something much heavier which I usually carry. That said, my 5 foot two inch girlfriend loved it although she found it tiring with a 20 pound load.

The sternum straps are lightweight Bungee cords that really flex enough to reduce their effectiveness. The load levelers use solid cords which would have been a better choice for the Sternum straps with the same weight. The belt pockets are a nice feature but could have been made slightly bigger and thus more useful without much weight gain as they are a thin mesh. As is the zippered one won't hold much more than my keys

First let me preface this review by stating that I am 6 feet tall and I tested the regular size of this pack and it was small on me but I was able to adjust it to work. Secondly, my present Backpack is an external frame JanSport D3 which I really like. I was not a fan of this pack as I didn't find it very comfortable with a 15 pound load much less something much heavier which I usually carry. That said, my 5 foot two inch girlfriend loved it although she found it tiring with a 20 pound load

 The biggest and most surprising shortcoming is the lack of effective compression straps. The is a weak series of thin bungee cords laced across the back but nothing that would effectively hold the load closer to your back resulting in the load slumping to the bottom and effectively pulling on your shoulders. That was my major source of discomfort and the primary reason for my rating.

Lite with nice features BUT...

 Now when my friend was actually showing these yesterday on a hike, when you're breathing heavily, this actually expands with your chest so it's not like a rigid. you know, compressing your chest actually allows you to breathe better. and there's a second one here. You can just attach that down here

 like a small half liter bag, one of those soft flasks. So this bag has normal sort of belt strap. But what's interesting is these, uh, sternum straps. It has two of them and they're made of shock cord so you can just there's little hoops on the ends like kind of going down the ridge here and you just clip that in there and pull that tight and that's your, that's your sternum strap

 This pack weighs in at 0.9 kilograms or about 2 pounds or 32 ounces. So it's a light pack and 30 liters so still plenty of room if you want to do like a one night or maybe two nights and or if you're just into day hiking. It's kind of a perfect bag for that kind of trifecta

Secondly, the chest straps seems like a great design (super lightweight) but they loosen constantly. I'm thinking of changing out the elastic for something thicker. Was this bag never tested?

Good but not great

SIZING: I am 5'9 (175cm), my torso length comes in at 18 inches and the Regular size fits me almost perfectly. Arc'teryx advertise it as an 18.5 inch torso length pack and I think that is accurate.

Built like a tank, but not made to carry one!

I really regret this backpack gave up on me so badly, because it is honestly the most advanced one I have ever owned. The quality of materials is outstanding. This is the first time I have owned an Arcteryx product and I am impressed by the well thought-out little things, like the side zipper which gives access to the inside of the backpack. The zipper and the side pockets (which can fit a yoga mat and a thermos bottle easily) were the reason I chose this one in favor of others

I have faced two major shortcomings, which made me strongly reconsider my purchase. First of all, living in Sweden, you can realize I have not done a lot of backpacking during the ongoing winter, since I bought it in November 2021. So I have been mainly using the backpack as a carry-on when flying. With a 10kg carry-on limit, it has not been excessively overloaded either

 This sound is completely alienating during any hike or walk, removing any immersion from the hiking experience. I must admit it is an incredibly intense sound. 

Smart features, but with major shortcomings.

The back panel is very board like and lacks much of any lumbar curve, this combined with a minimal hip belt is not the best combo for load carry. A bit of curve or give and a bit more padding would go a long way in the lumbar / hip belt area.

I got this for use on the Camino - initially was worried about the size of it but loved how light it was.  I got a size that ended up being bigger than what I needed, but nice to know for future trips I have the space if I require it.  It was comfortable, and I liked the bucket/roll-down feature of the bag closure - it was really easy to open and root through.  The side zip also a convenient feature
