 This more than does the job on the back panel and harness system. We have some thin but extremely dense padding and these edges kind of edgeless shoulder, strap style here, makes it very comfortable to carry. It can get a little sweaty in hotter temperatures because there is no mesh at all over this bag, but the padding is good for just uh. You know any sort of hiking or anything you need to do as well, but you may get a little bit of swap back and then you just have a little sternum strap here, nothing too crazy going on there and you can adjust it along these points here And then, just on the top, we have a folded over handle

 Because again you don't need that quick access to it, but you can easily swing the bag around grab. Anything out that you need also to the kind of depth of this pocket is the whole front of this bag. Here the main compartment kind of stops right about there, so you can get quite a bit of stuff in this pocket now, there's also a secondary access to that pocket from the inside here. So if you look here, this is also that same pocket, so you can either get side access or top access from the main compartment there and on the inside

 The laptop compartment, which fits a 16 inch macbook pro, which is what we have here, and this compartment is floating quite a bit here and there's more than enough padding. So you don't have to worry about if you drop your lap or if you drop your bag about your laptop, it is more than well protected there. So I'm looking to have one backpack both as a day pack and light hiking/walking pack.

I'm torn between Arc’teryx Granville Zip 16L and Arro 16.

My main issue is despite the description/advertising, it is very much not water resistant.  The zips have frequently leaked water onto my laptop when carrying in moderate-heavy rain.  Not a huge lack, but definitely some drops are getting through and that's not good for a laptop. They call the zips "watertight" and they look the part, but it has not been good for me

Not really weather resistant

 It's great and I'm going to dive into each one of these separately. This is the Granville 16 Zip Backpack. It's probably the most well-known product from the Granville line. It is again built using their proprietary material and construction techniques

 This one is just the right size is about the size of this part. So I have my small Edc pouch in there in my wallet and there's a key leash. This is again not a signature thing. They all have this red key leash

 So depending on what you put in there you can use it either way and I think that's just a neat design. Again to point out the way this bag is built, it's backed by a waterproof membrane you can tell and then everything is taped down. Back wall has a slightly padded but suspended laptop pocket. And just for show, I put in my very very old 15-inch Macbook Pro

 As you can tell, there's a slight curve in the back which fits me quite nicely. These straps are padded, but looks very, very thin, but it's extremely comfortable so you put this back on it kind of just disappears. It comes with a small but functional sternum strap right there and you can adjust this on the different part on the other system. and you can obviously hook other things in here

I’ve been using the Arc’teryx Granville 16, I’ve had it for a couple of years as one of my commute bags but find I use it more often than not because it’s so light, minimal and waterproof (one of my main criteria living in Scotland). I think there’s a small lashing point at the bottom (for a bike light) and handy quick access external pocket at the top, alongside a bigger one at the front that you can get to through a big vertical zip. Would easily swallow your main carry items with a decent amount of space left over I reckon!

I'm looking to expand upward in bag size from a paltry 4L chest pack to something more capacity-abundant (low bar coming from what I'm used to) due to an increase in bulk of the items I must regularly tote and am looking for some solid community recommendations per my below specs.

In short, my main carry items comprise of an 11" tablet, steam deck, 10k mah battery bank, wallet, and hockey puck-sized cellular hotspot that take up the cumulative dimensions of **34cm x 17.1cm x 10cm** (13.4"x6.8"x4" for you imperial people) that I estimate to be around **6L** of volume. I don't have a preference on backpack vs sling bag, but some "*nice-to-haves"* would be a lashing point near the sides I can hook my keys onto and a reachible external pocket for my wallet.

Coming from a minimalistic EDC, compactness is preferable, but a *little* extra space never hurt anyone.

Well made, great quality however the shoulder straps are too thin and the material they’re made of is a bit slippery so if you have it over one shoulder it’s consistently slipping off and needs adjustment. The back of the bag could do with some padding and the shape is a bit odd. Weirdly top heavy looking. And the grab handle on the top is a bit thin

 So that's pretty slick right here. But this zipper pocket actually leads into that main section. So you can see, I can pull out that first aid kit. So that leads into the main section so you don't have to access it from the side, you can actually access the things that were stored in that quick access pocket in the front from in the interior of the bag as well

 Now, the rest of the space in here, you can see a lot of space, you could probably put in a lot of space for your daily essentials, not a lot of big bags. So definitely a lot of space for your daily essentials. And then on the other side, you can see that they have a laptop sleeve. Now this laptop sleeve is suspended off the bottom, and I was able to put in my 15 inch Dell XPS

Granville 16 by Arc'teryx. Very minimal and aquaguard zips plus taped seams. Great build quality and last I checked it was $80 at online at Arc'teryx outlet. Pretty well liked by bag reviewers

Am going to upgrade my Fjallraven Raven 28.  Looking for something minimal - I like the Bellroy Oslo and the Rains mini, but both are made for 13” laptops and won’t fit the 14” MBP.

I commute on foot and am moving somewhere rainy, so water resistance absolutely required.

Am considering a Minaal daily w/ rain fly, but that’s somewhat more than I want to spend - ideally under $200.

Unfortunately, the laptop sleeve on this bag is incredibly small and doesn't come close to fitting my 15" Surface Book 2. 

Arc'teryx should update the description with more accurate dimensions of the laptop sleeve, or consider expanding it in future iterations of the bag. 

 Instead, it's so slim and narrow that I would question it's ability to hold other laptop brands and sizes. The laptop sleeve is lightly padded, but you may not be able to fit your laptop with an additional protective sleeve.
