A pricey but delightful surprise

I wanted to like this machine. I recommended my girlfriend get it for the purposes of virtual education; she needs to be able to annotate documents via the touchscreen. I have other Asus products that work well. Unfortunately, for the purposes of touchscreen use, this one is a miss

 While cool and increasing the screen size, you effectively can't use it as a tablet without touching the screen, because you can't hold it otherwise. For a non-touchscreen chromebook, this would probably be really cool; unfortunately if you want to use the touchscreen it really makes the average use case frustrating and inefficient.  One more comment - as several reviewers say, while some of the documentation says that it does come with a stylus, this particular vendor does not sell the version that has it. You may desire to then buy one; my experience suggests that you will not find one that works well

 The primary reason is that the touchscreen is completely inconsistent for capturing input. We tried 6 different types of styluses; the only input that was at all consistent was using your finger, and that's not a viable solution for precision input. We also observed random "dead spots" that would come and go; one time half the screen literally stopped taking input. Then it came back

this tablet gets hot enough on the bottom to burn fingertips

 The C436 never fails, it's just great. It's wider than the C434's trackpad (C433 also has the newer wider trackpad), and a pleasure to use. - Storage: 512 MB of space is fantastic, not used to that in your typical 32/64 GB budget Chromebooks. I usually use a microSD card to store multimedia, but that's no longer really necessary, at least for the average user

 It discharges a bit quicker than the C433 when watching a looping video. I would estimate roughly 8-9 hrs (I think the older C434 was closer to 11+; the C433 is similar to the C434 with closer to 10-11 hrs). But in mixed use - browsing over WiFi - it discharges quicker., probably 6-7 hrs of use

Very fast and light, but "ok" screen and battery life keep it from being a 5-star winner

 While sitting in front of the TV at night, I rarely go through half of the battery. It works for me.  Keyboard visibility - I'm probably not the best person to ask about this as my last laptop had the exact same issue and I learned to live with it and find workarounds. Yes, it's an issue

 No complaints here. It outperforms my office laptop with an older i5. I added a 256 GB Micro SD but I only save my downloads to it for now. The Google 1 offer will take care of me for the next year

Premium Chromebook...not perfect, but none are.

 A couple more small chips have appeared even with careful care, so we are going to reach out to Asus to see what they say. Our item DID NOT come with a cover as advertised, so that's another thing to look into. Besides that, the chromebook seems top notch, looks really upscale, touch pad is great, performs very well with higher than average memory and storage. So we will see

 I always need my JBL bluetooth turned on. If I go on the road I'll neeed my Buds at all times. I'm glad I bought it. It really is better overall than the Go

After a few monts I see just how good it is.

 The light colored keys are unreadable in daylight with the keyboard backlight on. There doesn't appear to be any way to turn the backlight off permanently so I have to always turn it down every time I start using the device which is a bit of a pain in the butt. Frankly for $700 I was expecting a better experience.
