I have the Kef q 150s and think they are a really smart investment for that space. They are a little longer and bigger than some bookshelves tho. Given they are on sale now I think that's a good investment. I think they are good speakers to grow wirh as they hold their own on speaker stands. I honestly cannot believe how well they image in the front  of my set up wirh a subwoofer.

Bookshelf or desktop placement

 Even as someone who was significantly less knowledgeable in audio reproduction, I was still able to appreciate the sound these speakers put out. I will not go too in depth about bass, as I had only used these speakers without a subwoofer for about a couple hours total, just know that it is fairly average for casual music listening but sub-par if you decide to utilize it for film/bass-dependent music.  CURRENT PERSPECTIVE: Disregarding the fact that these had blown out on me, I currently believe these speakers are not worth the absurdly high price. Although I still believe the mid-range is warm and quite rich, both the low-end and high-end struggle to reproduce sounds nicely

 These are not my current opinions.  These speakers were an upgrade from the Creative Sound BlasterX Kratos S5 2.1 Gaming Speaker, which was a muddied and lack-luster 2.1 system

 At the time, however, they were average sounding to me. I wanted to upgrade to something of the same size profile that had a clearer and fuller profile. I gravitated toward the A2+, as I believed in the misconception that these were phenomenal sounding high fidelity speakers (They do not claim to be this, but certain reviews of this product facilitated that idea). I had also seen them on a multitude of setups and thought they fit aesthetic of my own

 These speakers still look phenomenal though, and packaging is premium enough to justify a higher price tag, but not $260. For reference, as soon as I refunded my A2+, I went ahead and purchased a pair of KRK RP5 G4 Studio Monitors for the exact same price (These monitors are also fairly controversial, but I personally really enjoy their soundstage and less colored sound).  WRAPPING THINGS UP (Pros and Cons):  Pros: - Spectacular packaging - Additional cables that allow for multiple ways to connect to a source - Rich mid-range for small profile - Premium build quality (hefty with a clean finish) - Smaller setups will benefit from the size - Volume does get relatively loud  Cons: - Highs are lacking clarity - Bass is quite average from 90hz to 200hz, anything below that is quite awful without a subwoofer - The speakers do not do a great job at stereo imaging - Speakers are impossible to EQ without a 3rd party software - The price is absurd for over glorified desktop speakers - Subtle details in music get lost, making these speakers terrible for mixing/mastering (This is not what these speakers are intended for, but it is something to keep in mind) - Personally, these blew out on me twice at pretty normal listening volumes.  A few notes: - I do not believe these speakers are horrible, I just think the price you pay for them is not justified

Phenomenal looking speaker, not so phenomenal sounding.

I went from a pair of AudioEngine A2+ speakers with a Kanto SUB6 which never really clicked for me. It felt as if the speakers and sub weren’t working together as well as I’d hoped. Went for the LSX II’s as soon as they became available and opted for the sound wave colour as I find them pretty different.

Sounds great when they work

My previous reference point is a set of Fluance AI40, and a set of Audioengine A2 on a nuforce udaq. The B&W, despite being 24 years old, clean the floor with both of them. Crystal clear highs, smooth and punchy bass that I never found the bottom of. Mids were lacking a little, but a slight tweak on the EQ and they’re as perfect as my ear can hear

Have to brag about my thrift store score of a lifetime

 (As an aside, I got the white ones and they are very cool-looking, although adding the black speaker stands below them will add a cluttered look to my desk and detract from the nice design.)

 So the good news is that these are good speakers; the bad news is that you need to buy the speaker stands, adding an extra $29 to an already expensive set of computer speakers (I currently have folded dish towels beneath them as I await the arrival of the speaker stands). I'm sure the reason the Bose speakers sound better is because they are designed to angle upward, which makes perfect sense. These speakers should be similarly redesigned. They are not bookshelf speakers -- they're desktop speakers, meaning they're always going to be below your ear level and will always require the speaker stands for a better listening experience

 Given all of the stellar reviews, including topping several lists of best computer speakers, I couldn't understand it. I considered sending them back, but decided to wait a few days. Lo and behold, one day I lifted them at an angle and the difference was night and day. The sound was clear and crisp

Be Sure to Buy the Speaker Stands

Battle of the pee wee subwoofers...

 I like the styling. WHAT'S BAD: I bought these specifically because I wanted to use wired USB to avoid any issues with analog noise or wireless interference. But when wired with USB, there is a very loud pop whenever the system turns on. I don't think that's acceptable from a product which claims to be high-quality audio equipment

 WHAT'S SO-SO: The bass is limited, as these are small speakers. Their marketing says "To say the bass on the A2+ is substantial for their size may be an understatement, but you be the judge." Well, my judgement is they are only typical for a speaker this size. I was hoping for more as they are pretty expensive

I have the Audioengine A2+ powered bookshelf speakers and while they are pricey they are fantastic. Amazing range, optional subwoofer should you want bassier bass, Bluetooth/aux connections, and they get super loud.
