I'll start this off: I prefer the Audix OM5. They're stable enough to hot swap with a 58 without taking off, and they're hotter to boot.

I LOVE AUDIX mics (and love that they are made here in the USA). I 've had the OM2, then the OM3 ( which is light years better than the OM2) and decided to give the OM5 a go. Been using it over the last 3 months on my gigs. I love it !I I have an alto-soprano range and sing rock/blues/R&B

 Vocals are VERY CLEAN and crisp with this mic (don't sing sloppy with this - audience will hear it). This has a tight polar pattern (like all the Audix mics) so won't get much/any feedback from monitors that are close/in front. I like to sing right on top on the mic -- which you can do with this mic without distortion.

My problem is this: the guy doesn’t have a lot of power or projection in his voice. So when I increase volume and/or gain to compensate, I get harsh feedback/squealing. 
Are there any compression or gating techniques (or anything else) I can use to help limit that? 
P.S. go easy on me, I’m really drummer and most all of my sound experience is in studio or as a tech assistant!

Quiet singer, can’t get good volume with a band.

 I had to deal with dozens of acts, men, woman, loud, soft, eat the mic, back off the mic, this works for everyone. A lot of people love the SM58/Beta 58 and they are easy to work with but I find them harsh on some people, this mic works for everyone. The price is reasonable for what it is and it is highly feedback resistant.

Looking for a change from the SM58

I'm an acoustically fastidious person and I've tried a lot of other famous microphones. But I stopped with Audix, it showed me the difference and the most authentic sound I've ever heard!

Investing in mics for a commercial studio. What am I missing?

That's probably the best dynamic vocal mic I've ever used. Good detail for a dynamic, good frequency response, sounds good on most people.

For my rock band, looking to upgrade my SM58. Do KSM8 mics work well with rock and hard music. Non of my music stores have them near me, so it's hard to try them out... Your thoughts?
