 The big benefit is that I scheduled the purifier to run on Medium when I'm not in the room (which happens to be my office), and then turn back to Auto before I return. When I get back to my office the air smells and feels noticeably better than the rest of the house. Plus being able to tell alexa to turn up the purifier just seems cool. It will be more useful when I stick a second one of these in my daughters room and I can turn it to low for white noise without having to enter the room

 That being said I find myself actually using this one. It was easy to get up and running on android *(I'm a nerd, but it really just worked).  There are 3 fan speeds (low, med, high) and auto switches between them auto here  In terms of air volume coming out of the top of the units the Levoit sleep, low and medium are equivalent to the low, medium, high speeds on the 411. That means the levoit's high is a whole extra gear higher of air movement when compared to the 411. The specs of the unit corroborate this fact. I ended up buying two of these units, one for each floor of our house during the day and used one in our bedroom during the night. The auto mode feature is pretty cool and the sensor is pretty sensitive

 I did test it out on a smoky day and it did detect poor air quality and upped the fan. Within 30 minutes it cleared out the air. Yes, these purifiers DO make a notable difference. They are not a gimmick

I'm in California and this past summer was bad in terms of wildfires and it's impact on our air quality. It's the first time where the smoke affected us INSIDE our house. Purchased this air filter to install in a child’s bedroom. The low sound level and compact size make it great for smaller rooms.  Pros: - It’s A very quiet air filter even with the fan on full speed. - The Gray cover is great at hiding the dust that builds up between washings as the air filter is used

 As it senses changes in the air quality the fan will increase circulation and air filtration. - LED indicator will change as the sensors pick up changes in air quality.  Cons: - The Gray cover goes directly over the filter membrane. There is no plastic sub structure

 That means if it’s in a child’s room and child knocks something into it, it could dent or damage the filter itself resulting in the need for a replacement. - Without constantly referring to the manual it’s difficult to know what setting it’s on. This can be rather problematic if a child continues to cycle through the settings.  Would I recommend it to a friend: Yes

 It helps clean the air of fumes from the gas stove and general food particles. The sound of the high speed fan is not too bad, very similar to the hum of a standard fan. I have noticed less dust and pet dander when I clean which is exactly why I purchase the product in the first place. My home is small and I have a large dog

 As for function, I haven’t had the product long enough to determine whether or not it works properly. I do like the auto mode, especially when I am cooking.
