So, we just found out our GE dishwasher that we put in \~two years ago will cost more to repair than replace. It seems GE was bought by a company in the last few years that puts out crappier products. Blarg!

What are some good long-lasting dishwashers (that can be repaired easily or cheaply) that you have experience with? Which ones are worth it?

*Edit: I really wish my partner or I could remember the brand of the dishwasher we had before this last one. It was the one that was new with the house that was built in 2006!*

GREAT CLEANING...drying...not so much.

 Number of comments on an earlier follow-up video I did about it, so I wanted to address a couple of those things here. And when I do my washing the dishes test that I'll show you, I'm going to do it a little bit different way. Well, a couple of things have been addressed by Bosch in the model. They still sell the 300 Series model, but they've made some improvements to it, and the newer ones are actually quieter than the one that I have

 This one also seems to be nice and clean, and the dishes and bowls and silverware, there's no grease on any of them. There's always a chance there's some little dried-on piece of food that didn't get cleaned off completely, but other than that, these are completely clean. In the five years we've had the dishwasher, pretty much every day a load, some days two, so over five years, probably close to 2,000 loads of dishes. Never had to call maintenance out for it

 It doesn't dry the dishes by heating. It intends that you use a rinse aid, which you put in here next to where you put the soap in. You can hear that when it pops open. And this is what we've been using as our rinse aid, and it works very well

I’d order a base model Miele from a reputable online store, in your shoes. Our budget didn’t stretch that far.

 A dishwasher that actually washes dishes feels like a miracle. If on the other hand you’re used to Mieles, maybe a Bosch 300 isn’t so exciting. But our go-to appliance repair guy says he’ll never buy anything else.

Our old bucket of bolts Kenmore broke, and we've been gifted $1100 to go get a new one.

Unfortunately reality caught up with me that every dishwasher brand has some fatal flaw, but Bosch and Miele seem the overall "best" in terms of reliability, and doing.. dishwashing. Kitchen Aid, GE, and Samsung seem a pick your poison situation.

And the cherry on top is our local Home Depot, Lowe's, and Best Buy won't have any Bosch's in until March 2022.

 Any alternatives? are the others *really* that bad? In the U.S.

"Best" available dishwasher

 Really annoying since I paid a good price for this. My old GE that came with my home was about 16 years old worked great with no problems (eventually broke). Wouldn't recommend spending the extra money for this just because it's quiet.

Not good at the drying part

 You get full adjustability so you can place your dishes depending on how tall they are. Bosch 300 series used the same kind of filter that they use in their wood machines and it is a great job of you. Bosch 300 series dishwashers do have overall better built quality than its competitors. Shim 63W55 and dishwasher is a wonderful job of cleaning in my opinion

I made a post which went pretty viral on r/homeimprovement regarding shitty appliances breaking down within a few years unlike less than 10 years ago when good quality appliances were still sold. Well I guess I wasn't the only one pretty damn annoyed at this major inconvenience and someone pointed me to this sub. I expected to finally find some quality shit but it's pretty consistently just stuff from a billion years ago that is still working but can't be purchased really. Just get lucky to find it.

Well that being said, I bought my house 6 years ago and bought brand new appliances from a local Sears that was closing down and had some great sales. $4000 fridge for $750 type of deals. I pretty much bought everything brand new from there and everything outlasted the warranty... By a day. I've been so pissed because quite literally everything lasted within a month of warranty ending. And these shitty ass warranties are like 3 years max all in.

The only thing still standing and doing extremely well is my Cabrio washer dryer combo. I haven't had a single problem. Performance has been wonderful and for context, I have a joint family home with 6 people so the laundry is pretty much always going on.

So for anyone looking for washer dryer combo that doesn't look like shit and isn't something you'll have to find at an antique roadshow, this is pretty solid. I'm sure some people will see my experience of 6 years as nothing much to write home about BUT this is considering a product available immediately and easily. Also, with most appliances not lasting even 3 years, at least you know you can get 6 here.

This sub isn't what I expected, with tons of items that are pretty much ancient and unable to be acquired in any normal fashion. I thought I'd share my experience with a Cabrio washer dryer approaching 6 years of ownership without a problem while everything else I bought has broken down since.

After about 13 months, it quit drying

We are in the market to buy a fridge and washer and dryer. We are thinking of buying scratch and dent, but really want to have some more idea of dislikes and likes of certain brands or styles of fridge! What do you wish you would have know if you were buying a fridge for the first time?
