Hey Reddit, 

I need some advice.  I'm quite an avid music listener and I've been debating on on getting the M3 for a while, and when I was ready to pull the trigger, Sony goes and screws my plans by announcing the M4 at the same price, which sent me back to square one. 

This is my question. I recently saw the M3 on sale for $100 off (consider they're $350 full price), which to me sounds like a really good deal for headphones I've been wanting and keep hearing have amazing audio quality. Should I go ahead and buy the M3 for $250 OR should I wait and get the M4 at the full price for the same $350? 

From what I've been hearing and seeing the new headphones have some nice features like, multi device connection and wearing detection. I know they have better noise cancelling, but I tend to listen to music pretty loud, so that one doesn't really matter to me. Do you think $100 off is enough to ditch those features? I'm sure they will have better sound quality as well, but I've heard so much about the M3 being really good......will it make that much difference to me?

Sony WH1000XM3 vs Sony WH1000XM4

 They are a shade less bright than my Grado SR80s, but still the tonal balance seems spot on. I don't plan to use the EQ in the app (or, probably, the app!), it would only be useful if you prefer a specific sound contour like extra bass.  IN USE, NOISE CANCELATION & FIT I played white noise through a bluetooth speaker, then compared the NC on the B&W to my BOSE headphones (no music playing), and the BOSE did a noticeably better job at blocking the sound. The BOSE also fit with what feels like a tad less pressure, which could make a difference on, say, a long flight

 I couldn't find a manual at the B&W website, though I found one via an internet search. One button on the left earpiece switches between the 3 noise canceling modes (NC On; Pass-Through On; NC & Pass-Through Off). Turning on the power button starts the headphones pairing. I ran into a snag with cabled listening: the nice lady in the headphones repeats "ready to connect" every 10 seconds or so for the first few minutes until she gives up – the headphones didn't go into "cabled" mode

 Interestingly, with the B&Ws, the quality of the sound remains the same with the NC on (the BOSE become more "forward" and louder).  CONCLUSION If you want the best noise canceling, the Bose headphones are the way to go, but if you want terrific sound quality and only need good noise cancelation, these B&Ws are the better choice. But be aware that they're not designed for passive use through the cable (no sound without battery power).

 But here's the thing, I don't think that people buy on sound quality alone. In fact, I polled my YouTube audience, you people, on the community page and I asked you putting sound quality aside, what's the most important factor for you when choosing a Bluetooth noise cancelling headphone? And by far and away, the number one choice was comfort. Before we get to comfort, I think we should talk a little bit about the carry cases that come inside the packaging. So this is the Sony from different sides

 Just comfort factor, haptics, noise cancellation, even though they don't sound quite as good. And that's really the message of this video, is that when we choose to buy headphones or really any piece of equipment, it isn't just about sound quality. With speakers it's looks, with headphones it's looks even more so and comfort even more so because headphones are like audio clothing, we wear them. So when somebody asks me, John, should I get the Bowers and Wilkins PX7S2 or the Sony WH-1000XM5, the answer is it's complicated because yeah, if you want the best sound, Bowers and Wilkins, but you have to factor in all of the other features of the headphones in order to make a decision

 Now in order to review these I have to compare them to something right, but I didn't really have anything new and most people will want to know, I think, how they compare to the Sony WH-1000XM5. So I had to go out and buy a pair of those. So here these are. So today we're going to look at how the Sony compare to the Bowers & Wilkins

 Bowers & Wilkins sent me a pair of their new PX7S2 Bluetooth active noise cancelling headphones. Here they are. Now in order to review these I have to compare them to something right, but I didn't really have anything new and most people will want to know, I think, how they compare to the Sony WH-1000XM5. Sony WH-1000XM5 vs. Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2 -- an AUDIOPHILE'S REVIEW!

 The treble has a nice edge to it but knows not to overstep its boundaries and rob the spotlight of the music and/or cause listening fatigue. Overall, the PX7 S2 sounds crisp, smooth, natural and spacious.

I don’t detect any odd holes or dips in the midrange like on the AirPods Max which has an upper midrange dip that makes lead instruments and female vocals sound a bit veiled. The PX7 S2 has a crisp and extremely detailed sound while not being fatiguing. The treble has a nice edge to it but knows not to overstep its boundaries and rob the spotlight of the music and/or cause listening fatigue. A great pair of cans but, subjectively speaking, pricey for the sound quality

 They've also got that fantastic case which I'm a big fan of and they are £220 cheaper than the PX8s. I'm sure the new version is fantastic but if you're saving the pennies at the moment like so many people are and you want a very premium, great sounding, brilliantly noise cancelling pair of headphones, the PX7s2s are pretty hard to beat. Now you could, of course, save yourself another £50 and go for the Sennheiser Momentum 4s and if you're interested to see what they can do for you, keep watching for a link to my full review.

 But the development of noise cancelling has clearly come on leaps and bounds and you can see that in products like the PX7S2s. It's really really good, it's just as good as AirPods Max, it's just as good as anything Bose can do and it is absolutely on a par with Sony. The PX7s dampen the world around you very nicely, they're not too oppressive and what I mean by that is that sometimes with noise cancelling headphones it can feel like you're too hemmed in and it's a bit, it's like a cloud around you that's kind of pushing into your ears. Terrible description but you know it if you hear it, you don't get that on these

 Probably doesn't make a lot of sense but they just look very nice, it looks like you're getting a lot for your money. I know the presence of big brand names on products isn't for everyone, I quite like it and, let's be honest, if you're wearing a pair of Bowers and Wilkins headphones you probably know what you're doing. They're really comfortable as well, there's plenty of padding here, there's loads of padding on the ear cups, it's nice and soft, it's not too warm. I've worn these for long stretches of time without any discomfort

 So we've got physical play controls, we've got a proper switch to turn them on and off and invoke the Bluetooth connection and a button for noise cancelling. My only gripe is that they are not labelled apart from obviously the power button. Now I think we've reached a point with headphones where if you spend over let's say £200, £250, £250, you're going to get fantastic noise cancelling. That wasn't always the case, sometimes you'd spend that money and you'd get noise cancelling that was too oppressive, too noisy or just not very effective at all

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 headphone review - FINALLY!

The PX7 are the next step up and can be used wired too. The Momentum sound amazing and are build incredibly well. My pair is 5.5 years old, has been with me all around the world, in downpours, literally dropped dozens of times, sat one, etc, still works perfectly

I had the Skullcandy crusher wireless for quite a while know. After 1.5 years they broke, but skullcandy sent me new ones for free. After they broke, I ordered spare parts from ebay and repaired the headphones. After these are falling apart now as well, I'd like to look for another model of wirless headphones I can buy.  
 

**Budget** \- \~200$. Am willing to go up to 400$, if it is worth it.

**Source/Amp** \- Wireless (Bluetooth) Want to be connected with my PC and sometimes to my phone, so I guess bluetooth headphones are the only option, right?

**How the gear will be used** \- Only at home. Don't need ANC, I guess. I can barely hear anything with my current headphones when I have them on and music is played at a moderate volume. I work from home and want to listen to music / videos in the background. I also enjoy watching movies with my headphones on and playing games (don't need a mic). 

**Preferred tonal balance** \- Nothing specific. Don't care I think.

**Past** **gear experience** \- Skullcandy crusher wireless. What I like: Bass-heavy, battery lasts long. What I don't like: Connecting to bluetooth devices is kind of a hassle sometimes, but OK. Pretty heavy and not the best in comfort. Sound quality isn't the best. They break easily.  
I also listened to music with the sennheiser momentum 3 wireless some days ago. Sounded great.

Extra bonus:  
I have an electric piano and use some cheap $30 headphones for it. I can't use the Skullcandy headphones, bc when I plug them in, the sound volume is too low. Is that because the impedance is too high? Are there maybe bluetooth headphones for my use-case that I can also hook up to my e-piano (with a cable).

Wireless Headphones to wear all day

For the quality of the listening experience, these Bluetooth headphones are simply outstanding at all levels: bass, midrange, and trebles. The codec support allows for very high fidelity play and allows for wav play without stuttering or fidelity loss. There is a USB-C converter to aux in case wired play is desired, and it works well attached with that or a USB-C to USB-C connector.  The noise cancelling is not that good for this tier of headphone

Audiophile Quality Listening With Tidal, Headband And Noise Cancellation Are Good Not Great

 But now we come to ANC and I have to say that the ANC here is actually quite a bit better compared to the original PX7 but the problem with the more comfortable fit is that because the clamping force isn't quite as strong here as compared to the original PX7 it doesn't seal quite as well which means that you know I when I was listening to music I actually found myself trying to wriggle the headphones around press them in that kind of stuff to find the ideal position to get the best ANC and on my flight I actually found that the optimal position for me at least is when I was looking slightly downwards. I'm not 100% sure why but I found that that position actually cancelled out the most noise from the plane. Of course you know it could be different for everybody especially because I was wearing a mask and my glasses so maybe it's a combination of all these different factors but yeah the reduced clamping force in this case isn't really the best idea. I think Bowers and Wilkins could have actually increased the clamping force just a bit here but regardless ANC once you get the ideal position is top-notch so well done

 Vocals are a bit more upfront and emotional here which I love and for the genres of music that I listen to pop mostly these headphones work very well. One problem that I will note here though is that when there are a lot of instruments the mix actually kind of devolves into a bit of a mess but if there aren't too many instruments or you know if it's not too complex um all the instruments do have their own spot and it's actually perfectly fine in that situation. As for treble response I personally like it a lot. There's bite and air in the upper registers and it's quite apparent in hi-hats and cymbals but the best part of these headphones has to be the soundstage and it's incredibly spacious

Instrument layering is nicely done as well and in songs with plenty of vocal layering you can hear the layers distinctly. There's plenty of detail in these headphones and while there's no way you would consider these headphones for critical or reference listening they are actually a really enjoyable pair to bring on flights or out and about which well is what they're meant for
