The Buck 110 Pocketknife: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

The "use your shit" crowd are morons.  They're the third worst sect in the knife community, right after scalpers and politics pushers.  Everybody uses knives.  We all do

We've all got them! Let's air some out. It might be some newbies introduction to that it's absolutely okay to think highly acclaimed or hyped up knives aren't so great, and it might be a good reminder for those of us who have been here for a while that taste isn't universal.

I'll do mine in order of how off the beaten path I think my disagreements are

1. Sometimes I like a knife that really can't be snapped open. A slow deliberate opening mechanism can be nice in an office environment. I still want one handed opening though. I'm not an animal
2. The fact that wood expands and contracts makes the Opinel an absolute nightmare and I hate the damn things
3. I want no part of most non-stainless steels. Maybe I'm just dumb, maybe I'm the sweatiest person alive, no matter what it is, they all rust and I gotta ram them into citrus fruits to slow it down by just forcing patinas on them
4. The Civivi Elementum is an absolute mess. It's heavy, the detent is so crispy that the flipper tab hurts, and HOLY LOCK BAR TENSION BATMAN. It also shares a problem with #5. Read on to find out what that problem is!
5. The RAT Model II is an ergonomic mess. Somehow, it feels both too small and like the tip is too far away from my hand. Before anyone says it feels too small in my hand because of how big my hands are, I wear a size S glove. I have no idea how the rest of you are holding yours, but it either feels cramped in a four finger grip, or like I reeeaaallly need to struggle to find somewhere to put my pinky. Add to that that the space from the blade to where I can feel safe putting my index finger is so large and it all just... Doesn't work good.
6. 3.5" is not a midsize folder. That's a large folder. 3" is a mid size folder. The ideal design to my mind is the Spyderco Native 5 LW. It makes good use of that lockbacks require a kick by turning that kick into a place to put your finger, thus giving you ample room to put your hand somewhere. My only frustration is that it doesn't feel super great in a pinch grip, but it works fine enough that it doesn't bother me. The Civivi Baby Banter is currently challenging the Native 5 LW for space in my heart thanks to how good it is in a pinch grip (it's almost like Ben Peterson holds his knives in some odd positions or something? Like he has some sort of "finger test"... It's hard to know for sure what that man values in a knife. All I know is I like a nice approachable color like blue and to be able to hold my knives a bunch of different ways, and the baby banter is stellar in those regards)

i ordered the buck 110 from walmart website because it was the brown handle i received ebony handle which i could have bought in store and saved the shipping charge. now the website says the brown handle is out of stock. don't know if buck makes the brown anymore. if walmart knew about this they should have told me

Tyler here with gp knives and we're back again to take a look at the iconic buck 110, the iconic buck 110., the iconic buck 110, the iconic buck 110 and its mini variants. Let'S jump right in this is an iconic knife that has been around for nearly 60 years and is a popular option for hunters and outdoorsmen and has been seen often in both film and television as a prop knife. The folding hunter has a classic clip point profile with a hollow grind, making an excellent slicing knife

 So it's got a button deployed automatic blade, same design with brass bolsters and liners ebony wood covers and then the same back, lock mechanism. So, unlike many automatics, the deployment button does not function as the locking mechanism. Next up, we have the buck 110 pro, and this one takes the classic design and elevates the materials with some more modern high performance materials. We'Ve got s30v for the blade, which is going to increase the edge retention and corrosion resistance

 You get the same 420 hc stainless steel blade with paul boss, heat treat as the original classic version, and we've got a polymer handle here with a similar design. You'Ve got a checked texture on the handle for a little more traction same backlog, construction. So just a nice lightweight version of the classic buck 110. and for a more daily carry friendly option

 We have a blade of s45vn very well balanced, stainless steel. That is the next evolution in the crucible s30 line. The handles have a gray, anodized aluminum construction, which reduces the weight significantly, and then we've got handsome carbon fiber covers on there and a nice modern upgrade on this is the addition of a deep carry stainless steel pocket clip. So, as far as a modern carry knife with classic design lines, this is going to be a great choice

 Next up, we have the buck 110 pro, and this one takes the classic design and elevates the materials with some more modern high performance materials. We'Ve got s30v for the blade, which is going to increase the edge retention and corrosion resistance. We'Ve got brushed nickel silver bolsters and liners for a nice clean, modern, look paired with g10 fiberglass composite scales for a bit more traction and durability to weather a number of environments and, as with the original, the buck 110 pro also has an automatic counterpart, and this Is the buck 110 elite auto same blade and handle construction and the automatic setup there? Next up, we have the buck 110 legacy limited edition. So this takes it another step further in terms of performance and design

What's so Great About the Buck 110?

Got 25% off cause the local Walmart is closing. It feels pretty sturdy, I quite like it! I'll still EDC my Boker Urban Trapper, but I'll probably carry this when I know I'll be abusing the knife a bit more.

great knife,but why almost double price?

I would say send it in to Schrade, but all their LB7s are made in China these days…if this was your grandpa’s knife and it’s older, Schrade today is not the same company as the Schrade that made that knife.

 However the knife came full of gunk. There was some weird dried green material all throughout the groove or slot where the blade stays in the folded position, and there was so much gunk that the blade would not even fully close. There was also gunk in between the tension bar and the sides of the handle in the spine area, I haven't gotten that out, and I don't know how I will, but its not enough to worry too much about. It seems like the knife was sitting in a dusty or dirty area and the gunk settled, as it was quite difficult to get out, especially when it was deep between the blade and locking mechanism, and the only way to get to it was by putting a wire through the handle groove and scratching/pulling it out

Beautiful tool, but came clogged.

If I am going on a long hike or day trip/overnight I always bring two folders, and on my keys I have a Victorniox Spartan, and in my car I have a Buck 110, Mora 511 and opinel, and a cheapo spring assist. If I am going camping or to the cottage I will bring a large fixed blade and at least 2 folders.

 I wasn't planning to use the sheath anyway, I didn't realize it even came with a sheath until the package arrived :)  Overall, very happy with this knife. It's well worth the price to get the best.
