 It is a ball bearing pivot system on a buck knife made in the USA. It'S just a fun little knife with some excellent action to it. Let'S have a look at it up close and personal, so this blue version of the 840 sprint select is has a three point.  Let'S have a look at it up close and personal, so this blue version of the 840 sprint select is has a three point. One two five inch 420hc, that good old buck 428 C clip point blade with a stone wash finish. It is just under 1/8 inch thick at point, 1/2 inches thick. It is a manual flipper, but it has ball bearing technology

Not a bad knife, blade quality seems good, but mine required some tightening of the pivot screw for the blade so it centered up inside the handle while closed. I have small hands, but I still felt like I couldn’t get quite enough purchase on the grip. Overall not a terrible knife for the money, but nothing to get excited about.  Putting this version over the top, though, is all the red cerakoted hardware. The pivot and the pocket clip both match the backspacer, in this case. Rounding out the high-end versions is the Sprint Ops, which is rocking black and blue G10 handles and a slightly different blade shape. It's still a drop point, but it features a broader tip for more strength when used for piercing

Say the words “Buck knife” and most people will probably envision the classic 110 Folding Hunter, an enduring model that has stood the test of time and is still going strong today. But they aren’t content to rest on their laurels and have been making strides to modernize their products. The recently released 110 and 112 Slim models are a perfect example, but their new Sprint series is even more of a statement from Buck on where they intend to go in the future.

The Sprint family is a new ground-up design of liner-locking flippers, and they mark Buck’s use of a ball-bearing-based pivot system on their production knives. The result is a completely new feel for a “Buck knife.” The detent is not particularly strong, so it does require slightly more finger movement than some to deploy, but I’m actually a fan of the action. It is still plenty quick, it’s very smooth, and it won’t tear up your finger if you like to fidget flip your knives.

Like many other knives in Buck’s stable the Sprint series has two different tiers, Select for the budget conscious and Pro for those who want the absolute best performance.

The Selects feature lightweight Glass Reinforced Nylon handles that are textured and contoured in such a way that it fits very will in the hand and has the traction to make sure you maintain full control. Rounding out the handle we get a nice reversible clip, and while it isn’t truly deep-carry, it still maintains a low profile in the pocket.

The drop point blade is just over 3-inches long, made from 420HC using Buck’s famous Bos heat treatment that allows this steel to punch well above its weight class. It features a stonewashed finish, which I am a big fan of on a working knife, that does a great job at hiding scuffs and scratches. With a hollow grind and a nice swedge, the Sprint will be a good all-around performer. 

Overall these materials are put together into one solid design. It is a perfect size for EDC with well thought out ergonomics. The handles index very nicely in the hand and you get the nice integrated finger guard thanks to the flipper design. 

There are also a few cutouts on the spine, both behind the pivot, and on the blade itself that works well for choking up with your index finger, or for getting your thumb behind difficult cuts.

With all of the elements working so well together, the Buck Sprint Select makes a compelling case for itself as one of the best new budget knives to hit our shelves so far in 2019.

We still get S30V steel but it now sports a black Cerakote finish, which will be hard wearing. The rest of the hardware is coated black as well - by eliminating nearly any surface that might glint in the light, this version will be appreciated by those who prize discretion.

No matter which version you find yourself drawn to, the Buck Sprint series is a well thought out EDC knife that can run the distance, and it’s a nice jog forward from Buck.

The brand Buck has always been my favorite knife brand but this one is disappointing

 It'S not extremely heavy three ounces. You know you can't beat it. It'S three ounces um handle thickness, it's not very thick under half an inch 0.48, so i think it's going to be a great carry

 I haven't taken this apart. I haven't tried to adjust anything well. I did just one thing: i'll show you in just a second but yeah. I haven't taken it apart and or really even tried to adjust that with a pivot um

 When i'm holding it, my fingers actually laying right in that it's like that was made there from the ends of my fingers to land in so not too bad um. This would be really cool, it was g10, but i can live with this. It'S not it's! Not! The worst fr and gf and whatever plastic scales that i've seen there's no sharp edges. You know i don't feel any sharpness anywhere on the inner edge of this or when i'm using it

 Budget knives. These things run around under 30 bucks and they're. Pretty awesome. I do like those - and this is the spitfire, my newest one, before this pretty awesome design

Smooth blade deployment but it was just a few thousandths from touching the scale on one side when closed. I contacted buck, they asked for pictures, and never got back to me after I sent them. I ended up returning the knife

 To eliminate the smile on the edge - if you're handy, you can use a round diamond file to cut a sharpening choil at the heel of the blade. Looks better, and make sharpening easier and more consistent in that area, especially if you plan to reprofile the edge.

Impressive heat treat.  Everything else needs work.

 I'll probably be sending this knife back. I hope the new Buck Onset improves some of these drawbacks.

No detent, uncomfortable pocket clip. Attractive looking knife, wanted to like it.
