I recently bought the Canon EOS RP, and I was able to use my 35mm EF F/2 IS and 70-200 F/4 non-IS lens on it. I am looking for a general propose lens, but I am obsessed with sharpness. Lightweight is a plus, but I prefer sharpness over it.

(build up the rig over time or get the RP or 5D for now and wait on the Black Magic). Also have been looking (Less so) at Sony, but I think I’m leaning Canon as that’s what I’m familiar with and have some (not much) glass. Also don’t have any definite preference to mirrorless, just thinking that’s a safer bet based on where the industry is headed. I shoot a lot of different scenes for photography, specifically portraits and would like to do more in concert photography.

That's why I chose the RP. I was thinking of getting it with the RF 35 mm 1.8. But I also need my gear to be future proof and since the RP doesn't have dual pixel autofocus in 4k and it has a crop in 4k, I started thinking if it was worth it (I'm not gonna record videos in 4k now since I record them only at 1080p now but I'll at one point of time start using 4k). This was when I started watching videos and reviews of the M6 Mark II and it seems to be a good camera albeit with a smaller sensor compared to the RP.

Yes, it's 6 years old. Yes, technology has progressed. But if you are looking for a cheap stills camera with a good upgrade path, then this is IMHO the best choice out there (I would rather recommend the a7iii though, if you can afford it). Sure, you could go for the Canon EOS RP, which is even cheaper.

If you're on a budget, the RP is fine. One big advantage of the Canon EOS R for me is that it uses the same Canon LP-E6 battery as many other Canon DSLRs, including the Canon 7D. It's a little thing, but it is convenient to be able to use the same batteries with all your cameras vs. having to remember to match the right battery with a camera every time. The LP-E6 battery is also longer lasting.

Generally speaking, a larger sensor will achieve greater lowlight performance, but the lens choice in front of the sensor is also super important. A lower F-Stop value (around F/2.8 and lower) will get you better lowlight performance, as well as giving you a shallower depth of field.

I ended up buying Canon EOS RP. I wanted a camera that focuses on still photography than video. And this was perfect.
