 What'S up everybody welcome back to another video here at getting his tactical, I'm Erin, I'm your host out in the woods having a good time with the drop-forged survivalist. Now. What'S really interesting is that cold steel? I didn't really realize it until I got my hands on this knife. They make up some huge bowie knives and you know big, combat style knives

 I'Ve used it on other tools from other companies and really liked that steel, you're gon na get a lot of performance, definitely an upgrade over 1095 and some of those other tool steels out there and good edge retention, good lateral strength and durability. Now it has a very high, basically full flat grind into that swedge clip point very thick clip, so it's gon na be tough, durable but still be able to Pierce well with a 90 degree spine. So again, survivalist you could definitely throw sparks with that. It'S got a Teflon coating on there I mean that kind of grade

 Just don't have, and particularly at this guard. This guard is just in fully. You know laser-cut them assuming drop-forged piece of steel there, it's not a secondary piece of metal welded on or anything else like that or epoxy. So that gives us massive durability on a very large combat bowie knife

 I did I so that's just something it's kind of as a data point with these top and bottom guards great traction for harder, combat or you know, just harder survival use camp use. But I like how the top guard is really contoured here and not abrupt, say. Like on a K bar where just comes straight up, it even Flair's backwards, and it's not fun to try and like get over and try to do finer, carving tasks. This feels great contouring

Drop Forged Strength! Cold Steel Survivalist

Cold steel 's 3V blades fit the bill, pick one that think is the most ergonomic, however those are well over $100 USD.

I'm looking for a "Bushcraft" knife, fixed blade. I will use it as a belt knife for camping and hiking trips.

I have a Mora garberg Stainless. While I can get it razer sharp, and it is indeed a fine wildling tool, I find it pretty hard to properly sharpen it.

Additionally, I find the scandi grind to be to finesse. While it is an excellent wood carver, it does not seem to hold an edge well and rolls over quite easily. Removed the secondary bevels and made it a full scandi grind.

With this on mind, I think I would prefer a full flat grind, and carbon steel for easy of sharpness.

My current options I am looking for are 

1. Just learn how to sharpen/get a coarser grit stone.

2. Get a Condor terrasur and sell the Garber.

3. Get a cold steel master hunter 3V(if I can find it).

4. Get a Kabar Becker BK16 With after market sheath.

5. Get an OKC Bushcrafter(if I can find it)

6. Another recommendation from you guys.

 Taking a closer look at the blade it had a warp in the blade. The grinds were close but not symmetrical. This was a bummer to me as I was excited for this knife. I’m addition the ceramic coat although aesthetically pleasing, does come off rather easily, revealing the black coat to protect the blade underneath

COLD STEEL DROP FORGED BOWIE REVIEW: PLUS, SPECIAL GUEST TO BOOT!

I was under the impression that cold steel knives were USA made. Mine says made in Taiwan. So I'm a little disappointed with that but other than that I still love the knife. I was just hoping for a made in USA instead of made in Taiwan stamp

Not made in USA

5mm thick around the edges and 1/8 or 3.5mm in the middle. The overall length of the knife is 8 and 5/8 inches long and is made from one solid chunk of steel, there is no rubber, plastic or wood on this knife just a battle ship colored hard coating (color may vary). The sheath of this knife is great I find Cold Steel always provides a decent sheath but the belt loop attachment is not so good it's made of webbed nylon with Velcro and a snap and a hard piece of plastic that mounts to the sheath and that's where the problem rears it's ugly head

 The edge is razor sharp. It will shave my arm hair. The sheath seems to be built well and with a higher impact plastic. It looks like it's two pieces riveted together like a sandwich

 It's a separate piece that can be removed from the sheath. My favorite part about this knife is the price. It's a good knife for an amazing price. Cold Steel sells this knife on their website for almost twice ad much as I paid here

My inital thoughts.....

 It is not a versatile blade but it is not meant to be. It is a discreet self defense blade, and It serves that purpose very well.

 I do not have big hands and it is barely big enough for mine. I plan on wrapping the handle in paracord to . make the grip more subattial and less smooth, which it is. Some texture would have been cool

 I Making shorter fixed blades is a trend right now, but Having moderately long blade adds to its effectiveness without making it too bulky or long for an in-the-boot- or IWB weapon. Cons: The clip limits the ways you can carry the knife. A belt loop/clip option would be nice. grip is small and thin

A Quality EDC Self Defense Knide

 It is everything that a boot knife should aspire to be at its core. It just needs a more grippy and/or palm swelled handle. I wish CS hand drilled out the handle and attached inserts like it did on the updated DF Survivalist. That would make the balance perfect and give the blade the grip it needs

 The blade is still quite sharp and effective for its intended purpose, but I feel that some sticklers made take issue with it, as inserting and removing the knife is trimin the sheath and slowly dulling the blade. Additionally, the handle is slick enough to give me pause to transition in hand from tip up to tip down holds in the hand. Under stress, this would be dangerous. It NEEDS a wrap

 I am considering heat shrink tubing and/or paracord. But either way, I am keeping this knife. It is everything that a boot knife should aspire to be at its core. It just needs a more grippy and/or palm swelled handle

 The sheath has a perfect tension, and the ulticlip is the perfect attachment point for the knife's intended purpose as a boot knife. However, the knife keeps coming out with sheath shavings on it and it is affecting some of the blade's sharpness. Perfect boot knife except the grip...

 Also the sheath has good retention, taking a deliberate firm tug to dislodge the blade. I plan to try a paracord wrap or some grip tape to enhance the handle, or not, will have to carefully work with it for familiarity first and see if it's really needed.  I hope I never, ever need to use it for it's purpose, but it seems quite capable and in my opinion worth the price paid.  Value - 5 stars Versatility - 3 stars (it's a double edges dagger - you're not whittling toothpicks with it) Durability - 5 starts - it's carbon steel with a nice finish

There's no question this is a defensive dagger. It has an even, gray finish unlike the Amazon image. The balance in hand is just behind the finger guard, suggesting suitability for slashing in a defensive manner. It came very sharp

  I hope I never, ever need to use it for it's purpose, but it seems quite capable and in my opinion worth the price paid.  Value - 5 stars Versatility - 3 stars (it's a double edges dagger - you're not whittling toothpicks with it) Durability - 5 starts - it's carbon steel with a nice finish. Unless abused it should last several lifetimes.
