You're considering a $65 machete?  Quality: The quality of materials and craftsmanship Condor puts into the Golok are great. Thick blade stock, distal taper, very good factory edge, great sheath. As a tool, though, I didn't like it, both for its heaviness and weird ergos. Due to the thick tang and chunky wood scales, the handle is overly heavy, and overly large to hold on to

 However, the Golok is unnecessarily expensive for a machete. In the marketplace of "machetes" high-value is the norm.  There's a Condor El Salvador with polyprop instead of wood, for $54, or you could go with an Ontario 18 and "GI" sheath for about $35 or $40 (but you'll need to sharpen). At that point you've lost the allure of wood handles, brass pins, and leather sheath, but you can still chop like crazy

 As a tool, though, I didn't like it, both for its heaviness and weird ergos. Due to the thick tang and chunky wood scales, the handle is overly heavy, and overly large to hold on to. I didn't like the overall feel in use - I think the deep curve of the blade increases rotational inertia, something that is usually negligible in straighter blades.  If you want Condor craft$man$hip and a beast of a chopper, consider the Condor El Salvador 18" for $58

 I added a lanyard and wrap it around my hand to stop losing control. But that limits your hand movement and you can no longer do precise short flicks. The blade quality and construction are good. Reach is a little short for my liking

Beautiful blade - really beautiful. But very heavy and HUGE handle.

 That, and the weight, make it tiring to use. Being so thick, I think, keeps it from slicing as well as my other machete. It’s good for using like an axe, I suppose. I much prefer my CRKT machete which slices better and requires much less effort to hang on to

Beautiful tool! It feels as amazing to use as it looks. This is mostly highly rated for its great handle and condor’s durability. Downsides is it requires a lot of maintenance, and several tests with it, much cheaper machetes out performed it. ..then I would advise you look at an Ontario machete. Most of their machetes are thicker and stronger, which is what you will need up here

..you are looking at something like the Golok, and its not quite a machete anymore, and you are going to be better of with a big knife or hatchet.

Its shorter length means all the power is right at that part of the blade that is going to chop off your toe if you don't hit your target, so steel-toe boots are a good idea. Out in the open where the shorter length and greater heft don't give this tool any advantage, it is only nearly as effective as a $7 machete from Walmart

My only gripe is the sheath, which has NO holes near the bottom for attaching cordage to secure the end. Whether your aim is to wear the blade at your side, diagonally across your back, or horizontally on your belt behind you..

 Not sure what steel it's made with, but it appears to be made in El Salvador. (Be sure to check other reviewers to see how the blade fares when clearing brush, because any high quality blade should be able to take a lot of punishment chopping wood without chipping.) The handle feels comfortable and gives good purchase. Though it could use a few thin coats of varnish to better protect the wood

 Really looking forward to using this. Just by holding this in my hand, I already know that I'll have this machete for years to come. You immediately get that feeling as soon as you hold this blade tightly in your grip.

 Ready for use. There are absolutely no traces of rust or marks on the blade, as previous customers have stated in their reviews. (See my pictures!)  The leather sheath is also built very well. Stiff at fist, but the more you use it the easier it gets to manipulate it while still remaining very sturdy

 It's extremely sturdy and you can tell its built to last. It came oiled and sharpened. Ready for use. There are absolutely no traces of rust or marks on the blade, as previous customers have stated in their reviews
