Nine times out of 10, they feel awful, but in the case of coarse hairs, it is a nice, slow-rising, dense memory foam. Now, this one actually is memory foam

He's 12, so the chair being smallish or not having enough seat cushion for a 250lb man are not major concerns. I'm more interested in upholstery durability and general build quality. Is there such a thing as a "good" gaming chair?

 I will say the chair looks great aside from that everything else about the chair is just OK. For 299 dollars just OK does not work for me personally. I'm 5' 10" 230 lb and my head is about 1-2" from the top of the chair. After only having the chair for 2 weeks I can say the comfort is maybe a 6 out of 10 the lumbar pillow will fall almost every time you get up due to the lack of the strap

You can not lock the tilt only the recline witch is also disappointing. As far as build quality this is were I have my biggest issues

Not the greatest and not the worst.

 The chair is made of mostly plastic and I like to see more metal being used such as for the base, a metal base and better wheels would help this chair compete with some of the higher end brands. The armrest could also be improved as they rattle quite badly even after retightening the bolts. So overall I think this chair is a good buy if you can catch it on sale. The downsides include the plastic construction and rattly armrest

 In terms of adjustments it's pretty standard for a gaming chair. There's a gas lift that moves the chair up and down. You can recline the chair using the handbrake mechanism. You can adjust the chair's ability to rock back and forth as well

 The lumbar pillow is made of a nice suede material. The foam inside is nice and soft but still supports your lower back. The neckrests actually don't use because I feel like it pushes your head forward too much. I would rather just sit naturally, use the lumbar support pillow for my back to help support good posture

Comfortable chair, poor support, not the best build quality.

  I will say that I am profoundly disappointed in the quality of the armrests. They are constantly bending outward and, eventually, they're just going to snap off with repeatedly bending them back into position.  Otherwise, its a nice chair.
