 Finally above that we have our sexify button to toggle between three modes, OFF, SXFI, and the battle mode. The difference between the SXFI modes is very apparent when listening which I'll get into in just a little bit. You can also hear that the smaller microphone does pick up a lot more room noise obviously because the microphone is placed further away from my mouth and it's going to be picking up a little bit more reverb and background noise and it's unable to reject a lot of the reflections in my space right now. So as you heard the boom mic is definitely the way to go unless you really don't like the arm in front of your face

 I'm not sure if it's because of the way the app mapped my head shape. There are two modes you can choose, the first is their holographic audio mode which can be engaged in the app or by pushing the button on the headset. This is supposed to help expand the audio experience when watching movies, listening to music, playing games, and while it does improve the audio in some areas like the low end it really just mucks up the rest. True to a lot of audio technology like this, it makes everything sound like you're in a metal tube

The next SX-FI mode is called battle mode which is supposed to make hearing specific frequencies in games easier like footsteps, reloads from your enemies, all that kind of thing. It does what it does and it makes hearing those things easier at the expense of a good audio experience

 I've never had an issue with the sound coming out of most games these days on a normal pair of headphones. It's not that I'm an audiophile that only likes the pure experience, but if you're the kind of person that wants to enjoy the sound as it was mixed by the game, by the music, by the movie, whatever it is then there are going to be better options on the table. Creative SXFI Air Gamer Review - Wireless, Wired & Bluetooth Audio!

 Sadly, none of these features are there. The desktop app only has a few tabs, and the only one for adjusting audio is the EQ tab and virtual surround. You cannot adjust the surround effect, you cannot adjust the microphone's noise cancellation features, you cannot adjust even the type of lighting effect on the headset (pressing a button on the headset can set it to "rainbow", but the PC app only allows one static color). Audio options in the Windows side has access to various frequencies, but only at 16 or 32-bit, with 24-bit being strangely missing

 The bass was reasonably fine, but to get even "average" audio performance out of the headset required pushing the volume up past comfortable levels. Disappointingly, my cheapo Aurvana SE headset that came with my old SXFI dongle has a much better audio quality and bass response.  Second, the configuration options: Putting it bluntly, there are barely any. I was expecting a configuration menu similar to my X3, with options for direct and simulated surround, microphone configuration, and maybe even some preconfigured audio presets

 Hello this is The Provoked Prawn and this is the Creative SX-5 Air, a wired gaming headset from Creative that's designed to work with PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. This is a review, I've already unboxed this headset and I recommend checking out that video, I'll link to it in the description, so you can see close-up views of it coming out of the box as well as shots and a bit more information on it in various ways, and I'll also include all the information you need in the description. I want to talk to you about what this headset's like to use, and before I get started I'll just make a quick note that the voiceover for this video is done using the microphone which as you can see is a pretty beefy thing, and that is a commander microphone and it delivers a really fantastic audio capture quality, really good sound, and it does a lot of external noise cancellation, I'm not going to do any noise cancellation on the voiceover, I'll just normalize the levels so you can see how little it picks up from the background noise, there's very little noise from a PC for example, and it just does a really good job of capturing that audio and that was one of the things I was really impressed by when I got it out of the box. Another one is the design of it, it is a very understated but comfortable headset with large deep ear cups, really nice cushioning on them, a nice soft comfortable headband, expands really nicely as well, it stretches out, I feel like it's going to be durable and will keep on going for a long time and that's great too, it has a nice expandable headband as you can see here so you can really get it to fit nicely as well and stretch that out so that's great, it's also comfortable to wear all day long

Now in terms of sound quality, this headset is a bit of a mixed bag, it has 50mm drivers on it that are capable of delivering up to 20,000Hz in terms of frequency response, also 96kHz, 24-bit sample rate on it so in theory it should deliver great sound and it also is obviously Creative's Super X-Fi technology as well so the aim here is to deliver a fantastic 7.1 virtual surround sound experience and the focus is very much on gamers as you can tell from the RGB lighting on the sides and the sound therefore has various different modes on it that you can access from buttons on the headset itself so you can press it and you can get access to 7

 However it is nice that it plugs straight into your phone, as I said you have the app that you can use to customize that audio and you can also just plug and play so you can just plug it in on this and to Spotify on your phone so it's very flexible and versatile in that way and it delivers a pretty good sound experience for music and for movies and stuff as well, I just thought for gaming it was a bit washed out and a bit disappointing in that way. Otherwise it's been a fairly interesting experience I would say like I said the SX Fight Air probably delivered a better audio and because it was wireless it didn't have any other nags with the cabling however mic is absolutely fantastic, you don't usually hear a microphone of this quality on a headset that blocks out so much noise and does such a good job of picking up rich audio from the voice without any of the background noise, you usually have to have a dedicated microphone for that and so that is a major highlight. It also might be that the sound issues that I've had could be fixed for the firmware update software and just tweaked that way so something to bear in mind. I hope you found this video useful

The mic on this thing is incredible! Creative SXFI Gamer review

 it sounds good overall and for gaming its the best ive used in awhile. They can get loud and sound clear for music and movies etc, but just the lack of base punch is very disappointing. That said they are overall worth the price and my experience with them is just stock plug and play into a pc and adjusting the stock software for eq etc.

Even with the software bass boosted to max, these thing just dont vibrate, dont pump, no deep base what so ever. it sounds good overall and for gaming its the best ive used in awhile. A Lot of like, but NO BASE

 Because of the larger driver turning on Super X5 gives you that surround sound feeling not quite like 5.1 or 7.1 but you definitely feel surround. Sitting in front of my computer I've taken out my headphones so many times just to make sure that the sound was not coming from my speakers and that they are coming from the headphones

 So this is the test of the Creative Air Gamer with the commander boom mic and this one is a noise cancelling mic that comes with the Air Gamer and this is how it sounds like in a quiet environment. So what I'm going to do now is to turn on a simulated background noise so you can hear a difference. So now there is a simulated background noise playing in the background and this is the call quality that you can expect from these headphones. So what do you think of the call quality?  So putting it into battle mode tightens up the audio and brings it inside your head not so much like a surround sound and lets you hear everything clearly and close to your head. It's important if you are playing first person shooters and you want to hear where people are coming from. So this is a test to see if the Creative Air Gamer is a good headphone for making phone calls. So this is me speaking with the nano boom mic, the small mic that we have and this is the call quality that you can expect

its OK.. But not worth the $130

 You've got the commander mic to give you what I found was good voice pickup, especially on USB. If you're doing it purely on Bluetooth, it's okay, it's nothing special. But USB is fine when you're trying to talk and stuff like that when you're playing on the games. And if you look at some of the other options, other features, obviously you plug your USB here and you plug your commander mic in

 That is really good. There's the Commander mic which plugs in to the headphones. And then you have the 3.5 to 3

 And they're okay, they're not breathtaking to be honest. From what my use of these, these are really designed so when you play games, if you connect them to your PS5 or you connect them to your Nintendo Switch. They are absolutely enhancing those gaming modes and impacts and explosions and you can get enormous bass out of these. From a musicality point of view, if you're listening to music, they're okay, they could be better in my honest opinion

 So what you have is a nice cushion pad, pretty comfortable, no way of making a mistake on that. And fully adjustable as well. So let's talk about the sound quality and call quality. So this is running through some of the app and how it looks and some of the features as well

Overcomplicated

expensive for no reason.

 For me this is a convenience purchase rather than anything and I am not going to compare it directly to $500 headphones or $300 microphones but in a single package it is a worthy substitute and has become my daily driver.  Comfort: Very comfy earcups and with the perforations it does have a little sound leakage but it also gives the headset more of a open back feel which I prefer. As for the headband, it's the only bad part of the whole product, for my head shape it was hurting the top of my head due to the very thin padding and I bought some third party foam cushions to make it comfy.  Sound: It's probably nothing to write home about without SXFI turned on, but with SXFI it is very nice and it's not something that can easily be described without trying

Of course SXFI is a user preference thing, but in my opinion you can't go back to normal headphones once you have learned to enjoy it. The head mapping process for it on the phone app is very hit or miss though and you need to make maybe a dozen profiles before you find the one that sounds best to you

 I can understate how big of a difference it makes to try multiple different headmappings because the app can and will generate bad ones that is likely the cause of many bad reviews regarding SXFI.  Microphone: Absolute yes. Only issue maybe is that the volume of it can be a bit quiet unless you position it close enough.  App and other features: I don't have much use for the bluetooth and GamerChat features so I cannot make much of a comment about them
