Fast, but idles way too hot. Possible stability issues too.

 I am talking about deteriorating down to 16MB to 20MB per second write speed. And the 2TB drive (bought in May 2021) has never been even half full. ****** Update 17 Mar 2022: Now I am using it on a new Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt 4 ports and cable. Apparently without TRIM support, the built-in "Active Garbage Collection" is wholly inadequate to maintain performance. I have both a 1TB and a 2TB X8. I use both via USB on my 2013 Macbook Pro. The performance starts out great but begins to deteriorate after a couple of months and I cannot get it to fully recover

Not good long term for Macs without TRIM.

 (2) As the available space decreases, so does the writing speed. When it reaches 80% it becomes slower then an old IDE hard drive. This thing has serious design issues written all over it. This is not a cable issue, i tried with the cable provided and other quality ones, and the behaviour is the same, you simply cannot use the whole capacity because as you begin to aproach it the writting speed becomes abismal

Misleading specs

  If you regularly transfer small files that are less than 13GB then this drive would work for you but the SLC cache on this drive craps out with large files. I tried transferring a 50GB file to test and it took nearly 30 mins whereas my WD Passport HDD that spins at 5500rpm transferred it in 10 mins. Running synthetic benchmarks is one thing but real life transfers are another.  This drive is, unfortunately, going to be returned in favor of doing a DIY external SSD solution where I can choose an appropriate SSD to put inside

Know what you're getting yourself into

 It's not my system. These drives heat up fast and I think they start to throttle ? Just a guess. I put a fan over it to cool it for long xfers (ridiculous)  These drives start "fast" on my setup around 850 MB/s and then drop to a crawl over time till you only see about 300 MB/s write. Terrible

Don't believe the hype

Nice drive but gets hot, only works with my S20 while cold

  Connect to a HP desktop, 550 speeds. Have no idea what is wrong with the laptop that it can't function correctly. Another HP desktop only gets about 280 speeds for about 30 seconds then drops to 75 range  Very sporadic sadly. Might just give it to a coworking at this point as it won't work in my primary laptop to be worth anything
