 I mean cranking up like adding 15 decibels or whatever to your subwoofer on your amp, and then cranking this thing all the way up. That's about the only time you're going to hear anything close to that. Whereas the poke I used to have, it would just sit there and just splat all the time and produce that sort of hideous distorted sound. So what I've done with this subwoofer is I discovered something early on

 I've tried out a bunch of them, and they just produce that distorted splat sound that has about all the grace and accuracy of an old lady falling down the stairs. You're only going to get that with the Dayton Audio if you literally crank the heck out of everything on your amp, the amp on the sub. I mean cranking up like adding 15 decibels or whatever to your subwoofer on your amp, and then cranking this thing all the way up. That's about the only time you're going to hear anything close to that

 And just to produce that sort of really deep, low-end rumble rather than just the standard 50 hertz rumble sort of thing. This is very good for home theater. I would say if you're into audio, for bass-heavy music, it's probably okay. But realistically, if you're wanting something that's just an incredible subwoofer for music, you're going to have to go much higher end

 What happened, a little bit of a backstory on this, the folks at Dayton Audio are actually what they call a do-it-yourselfer. They build their own subs and have been doing it for years and they sat down one day and said, okay, here's our budget of under $150. What's the best sub that we can build for this amount of money? And the result was the Dayton Audio sub-1200. Now the sub-1200 is actually kind of in that price range where it compares to a better known sub, the Polk Audio PSW-10, and in my opinion there's just no contest between the two

Are home theater sound systems generally good for music as well?

 It's too big to fit under, behind, or beside anything. If you don't have a very large room, it's likely going to be a problem and stick out like a sore thumb. My jaw dropped when I saw how big the box was on my porch, and it's not due to packing material. It's huge

Be Aware How Large a 12" Subwoofer is - Warning

 This decides how high the sub will play. It's variable between 40 and 140 hertz. Most of the time, you're going to keep it somewhere in here between 60 and 100 hertz. The gain knob here controls how loud the sub plays

 I can't quite hear the subwoofer now. So we're going to boost that volume control just a little bit, give it a little more gain. Yeah, right there. Now let's switch to the phase knob

 So we'll back off on the crossover knob until the subwoofer just starts to come in and hear these speakers start to roll off. That's nice. Okay, now we're going to play with the gain knob a little bit. This is going to control the overall volume of the subwoofer

 First we're going to adjust the crossover knob. The more we turn it up, the more the subwoofer and the satellites are playing over the same frequency range and it sounds a little bit bloated in the bass, maybe not quite as clean as it should be. So we'll back off on the crossover knob until the subwoofer just starts to come in and hear these speakers start to roll off. That's nice

 I already ordered a [Suca Audio TDA7498E Amp](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZVS261F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) if you think that was a bad call and have another suggestion, I'm all ears and can easily return it. Also, maybe some kind of floor speaker would be better than bookshelf bois on stands

 This was installed on a Yamaha RXV-675, also the vendor would not take a return, due to hazardous materials!? What the heck Parts Express? There was no hazardous materials label on the carton! I bought a Polk Audio PSW10, Wow what a difference! Not only for music but for surround also! I have seen many reviews on the Dayton Audio sub indicating it is the best deal for the price. I do not agree, the PSW10 was less money and far outperforms the Sub 1200. Listen to the bad reviews here on Amazon, I wish I had, I am now out the money for this device. I would be sure not to buy anything from Parts Express in the future

Bass is Lacking with this Subwoofer

 But even when you're really cranking it, perfectly acceptable. And as long as you're not really expecting the sub to pound like a $2,000 subwoofer, this is excellent. For home theater use, I don't notice any boominess, even though my acoustics in the room that I keep it in aren't the best. Again, if you're really cranking it, you will get some of that boominess, but normal listening volumes, even when you're in a pretty loud environment, like if you're watching the action moving, you're not getting those weird booming notes that some of these cheaper subwoofers have

 All right, Dayton Audio Sub-1200, available from Parts Express, about $150 to $120. Depending on the coupons that Parts Express has, Parts Express almost always adds either a $10 or $15 off coupon, so make sure you search for that before you buy the Sub if you're buying it from Parts Express. I'll show you just the design of it here real quick. So this is a 12-inch powered subwoofer

 The Parts Express makes some great products, and this Dayton subwoofer is one of them. So if you guys have any questions, let me know. I'm not going to do a sound demo for this because I'm recording this on a cell phone, and you're just not going to be able to get the bass frequencies. This cell phone's not going to be able to accurately pick them up

 For music, you know, it's not going to pound like a $1,000 SVS subwoofer, but perfectly acceptable sound for music. As long as you're not really, really trying to crank it, when you're really, really pushing this, the sub can kind of get lost. It's a little bit delayed. The bass notes come a little bit behind the music

I have a LG C1 OLED TV with a Sonos Beam, Sub, and two Plays for my rear audio. My Beam is connected to my LG’s eARC for audio. I also have a very heavy gaming set-up that includes a PS5, Xbox Series X, Gaming PC, Nitendo Switch, and an Apple TV.

I want to take advantage of 4K 120hz gaming, but also keep my dolby atmos for my Apple TV and gaming when available. I don’t have enough HDMI inputs on my TV to hook everything up. Would a AV receiver like the Onkyo NR-6100 work if I used that to just hook all my gaming systems and Apple TV into it and then connect that one of the TV’s HDMI 2.1 ports and keep the Sonos Beam connnected to the TV’s eARC or would there be audio pass through issues with that? If that wouldn’t work is there any HDMI 2.1 switches that anyone can recommend?

Set-Up Question

This sub is only good in the sense that it adds bass to your system. The quality of the bass is a different story. I used REW to see what the sweeps looked like and found that it drops off significantly at 30hz so don’t expect any deep rumbles; it peaks way high at 50hz and is full of peaks and nulls throughout the small range in which it does play. The amplification seems like an afterthought, based on the amount of gain needed to achieve an 80dB calibration

 Hey what's up guys, it's Aseg. Welcome back to a brand new video. I hope you're having a wonderful day because I'm unboxing this Dayton Audio Sub 1200 120 watt powered subwoofer. This subwoofer was $169 on Amazon Prime

 Not much. But we got this pretty insane port to get bass reflex and the back we got some okay looking amp board but it's not too big. It doesn't have to be big but if it's efficient enough to not make the speaker move to fill up my room with bass that's going to be impressive too. And the size of the transformer is kind of small but who cares right? Solder joints looks fine

 Enough talking and let's actually unbox this beast. What we find is this foam that's protecting the subwoofer of shock when it was shipping. And what else we see is a manual that no one reads. Now you can see me actually struggling to get this subwoofer out of its package and yes it is freaking heavy
