I've been wanting to upgrade to an MC cartridge for awhile and the opportunity recently presented itself via a NIB Denon DL-110 from Japan at an affordable price. My fears that my Musical Fidelity V90-LPS would have insufficient gain to drive it were immediately proven to be unfounded as I'm able to obtain a comfortable listening level at about 11 o'clock on the dial on my Cambridge Audio 640A amplifier. First impressions are very good, considering that the cart hasn't even begun to break in yet. It's already an improvement over my 2M Blue and Nagaoka MP-110 which were my top MM carts in my collection

 With the Pro-ject I use the high MC settings for the Denon and the MM settings for the Shure; I’m still trying to figure out if I have a preference for either cartridge. The Shure has a new Jico SAS stylus so it's competing with the elliptical stylus on the Denon, so we’ll see. I did notice the Denon sounded kinda meh for about the first 6 hours of playing, but then it took on a new life of it’s own, with strong bass and crisp delicate highs. Make sure to get the overhang, stylus force, VTA, antiskating and phono preamp settings right (if you can adjust these settings), and keep the stylus clean, because you will immediately hear the difference in sound quality

Sounds good, but better than my Shure V15VMR?

 Even the bass sounds like high notes. Let me repeat that. The BASS sounds like high notes.  Even after 20 hours of break-in, there was no improvement

 The popping went away in Phono, so I figured no big deal, swapped to Phono and:  Issue 2: So. Much. Treble. If I were to graph it: 2/10 on bass, 0/10 on mid, 11/10 on treble

I found a great PL-550 with a Ortofon VMS 5E MKII for $20 today and I'm not sure if I should keep it and replace my (basically new) AT-LP120XBT. I don't really have room for both.

 Minus one star for not tracking very well on some of HiFi News test tracks. That being said, I have not noticed any flaws with everyday music listening (mostly folk,rock and jazz) except for some shrillness on some remastered Beatles records.

I got this as an upgrade cartridge from the stock at95e (which is a solid performer btw). This is a great sounding cartidge! To my ears, it seems to bring out a lot more detail out of my records with layers that I wasn't really hearing (or should I say savouring) with the at-95e. Minus one star for not tracking very well on some of HiFi News test tracks. That being said, I have not noticed any flaws with everyday music listening (mostly folk,rock and jazz) except for some shrillness on some remastered Beatles records

While I have spent quite a bit of time mounting, balancing etc and have it to a point where I am satisfied with the sound, I am in the ballpark of 1,000+ hours on this needle and am beginning research on a replacement (aka upgrade). My phono stage is a Marantz 2270 (1.8 mv, 40db gain and 47,000 ohms). I enjoy the warmth of MM, but am flirting with HOMC as my marantz and JBL 4412a’s offer plenty of warmth in their own rights. I’ve read good and bad about many of the sub $1,000 offerings, but would love first hand experiences/opinions. Carts I’m considering: Hana SH, Ortofon Bronze/Black, dynavector 10x5 mk2, AT 740ML/760SLC, LP Gear R3SM, Denon DL-110 (1.6mv), but I’m open to other suggestions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

, although it does haves some low level hum. The Grado is easier to listen to and plenty of detail, the smooth sound is very nice. Denon is tiring after a couple hours, but a great party cartridge, really rocks. Both are good

I used this cartridge in the latest Rega RP3, NAD 350, HD650, very clear but with a harsh edge. I am now using a Grado Reference Platinum 2, which is as clear as the Denon but smoother. The Denon is very good but a bit aggressive. My preference is the Grado

I'd go with a Denon DL 110 been around for a long time. Might need to turn it up a bit more,but the sound is Great for the price. I like them so much,I've got one on my vintage Sony PS 4300 and my Pro-ject

I would like to upgrade it without too much hassle. I’ve read mixed reviews about the Elys 2. Exact 2 is out of my budget. What would you recommend for a nice upgrade?
