Elgato Wave 3 Review - A USB Microphone for Creators That Won't Distort!

Apologies if this is not the ideal SR, but it didn’t seem to fit anywhere I could think of.

I’m looking for recommendations on USB microphones to be used for video conference calls (Zoom, Teams, WebEx, etc). 

My current/ideal setup leaves my MacBook Pro off to the side and closed, so I need an external mic.  All of the reviews out there seem to be geared towards streamers using it 2 inches away from their face.  I need it to sound full and not hollow from 2ft away in front of me.  

That leads me to some sort of directional mic rather than a cardioid or condenser but I’m not sure what to look at without buying 10 different ones!

USB Microphone for Video Calls

What a mixed bag.  First, the good. The sound quality of the microphone is excellent. There is no "low-fi" loss of high or low frequencies, clarity is excellent whether I am speaking quietly or loudly/near or far, the auto noise rejection/compression is smooth and unobtrusive, and there is almost no extraneous "room boom" reflections picked up that would otherwise be muddying things up (the room it is in has no acoustic treatment)

Fantastic mic. Mixing app and support not good.

 And the streamer yells and it gets so distorted, and you're just really turned off, you throw your headphones off, you say, I don't want to watch this anymore. Or if you're a streamer, you watch it back and go, ugh, that sounds horrible. Clipping is the worst. I hate it

Hi, I would have made this post in a twitch subreddit, but I feel like I would be bombarded by people that think the blue yetti is good. I'm looking for a microphone in the 250 dollars or less category. I'll be using it for my gaming stream and I will be the only one that needs to be mic'd. I don't currently have an interface, so if you recommend an xlr mic, then please keep in mind my budget includes the total setup and I don't currently have an audio interface. I was eyeing the MV7, but I'm unsure if that would be the best bang for the buck. I appreciate the help in advance.

Recommended Microphone For Twitch Streaming

 Or anything else for that matter and trust me I've played around with it on discord to see if my team could hear various items making noise next to the mic while speaking or silent and not a sound could be heard on the other end other than my voice (good work Nvidia).  All in all, I wish the software that came with the mic actually preformed for the amount of money I spent as it does function well when it is actually functioning but the amount of problems I've had over the years with this and basically every other Elgato\Corsair product I've purchased (Wave 3, Stream deck, Corsair Void RGB Elite wireless {the mic audio was trash for an at the time near $200 purchase} Corsair K100 keyboard {legit the only one I don't have complaints about}) and the fact that I now dread updates from Elgato just makes this product not worth the money I spent on it and would urge you to spend your money elsewhere

 The amount of times that it no longer recognized the input of Broadcast after a new update was like they were telling me to use their own software for noise reduction; only theirs was basically nonexistent. All that Wave link had was a "low cut filter" and a "clip guard" neither of which do anything about the ambient sounds in the room such as fans for the hot summers or even the click clack of my mouse and keyboard, of which no one wants to hear on stream. Nvidia broadcast cleaned up everything nicely and neatly without using too much in the ways of resources; however with the amount of times the input ceased to function after updating Wave link it seemed like Elgato was trying to force my hand. They finally release an in app version of Nvidia broadcast and for a second, just a second I was actually had I little bit of that excitement I had before I realized the Wave link software was going to be a nightmare at every turn

Product itself is great but the software that runs it is trash tier

 Now I am speaking into the Wave 3, spinning around to 90 degrees so you can hear the off-axis rejection and coloration. We will continue around the microphone to 180 degrees. Here's what it sounds like from the rear. Continuing around the microphone to the second 90 degree angle

Background noise cancelling mic/headset?

 Not even a hotkey toggle option.  I use wireless earphones and I switch frequently between them and speakers so having to open Wave Link each time and manually select outputs again and again is tedious and unrealistic. I contacted Elgato's technical support, hoping for assistance so I could use the software as intended. They had no solutions and told me that I can suggest fixing these issues as a feature request(!)

If I go to google I basically get every branded mic out there (blue yeti, hyperx quadcast, etc) and I've always heard those were really bad compared to actual mics you can get at the same price. However, I really don't know what I'm looking for. Some people recommend XLR mics, but those seem like a hassle compared to USB mics. So I think I'd prefer a normal USB mic, unless the quality of a cheap different mic is much better. 

Posting on r/microphones doesn't help, that place is dead, and google/youtube just gives me the same mics that everyone always calls overpriced or bad, so is there something anyone would recommend? or a website that I don't know that explains everything neatly and gives me recommendations? any help is appreciated
