It’s clear from the absorption and diffusion panels that your husband put research into making the room sound good. A few more tweaks will take it to the next level. 

The center and subwoofers really make a huge difference in both the intelligibility of dialog (the center) and the ability to both feel and hear the LFE track (the subwoofer). When I switched to a Rythmik sub, I was sad only that I hadn’t done it years earlier. 

Husband’s first home theater!

 I bought 3 and tried LCR setup and they just don't put out any low end whatsoever. They are hollow sounding and muddy with volume. They will certainly take some power. I drove it with a Sony DA5800es (very expensive and quality receiver) at 140 per channel and outside of being muddy they handled 75% volume

Is that the PB 3000?   I can't tell.  Dumb story time: we went out of town on vacation and my dad was using my house while we were gone.  Got home, my entire HT system was out of whack.  Almost like he factory reset everything.  I'm still fixing things like power auto off settings. Anyhow, I knew something was still wrong with the audio but couldn't put my finger on it.  Felt like the biggest dunce when I saw my PB 3000 was unplugged.  Got it sorted, and it's like subgrade day all over again!   This thing booms! 😆

Subgrade day.

 Sealed box allows for easy placement near wall and is quite small compared to many speakers that produce this quality of sound. Can play music and quality levels as well if used as a single speaker. Needs a decent receiver or amplifier to drive it. I've paired it with a NAD D 3020 v2 as a single speaker for a TV in a bedroom and it does a great job for night time listening as well as the occasional music session

Great center channel or all-around speaker

I’ve had my sl1500c for about a week now and I’m really loving the sound coming out of my emotiva airmotiv b1+ speakers. I’m using the built in pre-amp with the supplied ortofon 2m red which again sounds fantastic.

It does overpower the B1 bookshelf speakers a bit unless you adjust the levels, but even they are phenominal. So phenominal I just ordered the towers.

I have to say I am blown away. Crisp clear dialog, goid amount of bass. No “brightness” or “muddness” even my audiophile ex husband is impressed.

I have been on the hunt for a good center speaker. Many are too “bright” or muddy until you pass the $700 range. After battling with myself over a martinlogan centerchannel, i decided to look fir others with folded ribbon technology and found these.

This is by far better than anything you will find at best buy or magnolia. Incredible quality and sound.

I recently got the itch to upgrade my home theater speakers, and after a lot of browing this sub, a few recommendation requests,  and a bit of "well its not that much more and I could adapt the budget if I had to..." I've finished my first real upgrade.

Just, wow. The Polk speakers weren't horrible for what I'm used to. But even the quick test during my lunch break the clarity is miles ahead with the Emotivas. And voices are always clear and audible whether the volume is low or high, which was my main complaint about the Polk center. And the bass, its turned down quite a bit just to be polite living in a townhome, but even low you can hear and feel the presence of bass filling the room. 


My wife may have given me a few sideways looks as the budget grew and seeing me excited when boxes arrived, but thanks to all of you for your recommendations and advice. This is so much better than before and finally immersive.

Polk T series to Emotiva, whoa...

Great Sounding Speaker! I have it matched up to my Emotiva T1 Towers and imo it doesn't get much better than this! These speakers are very neutral sounding, not to bright or dull. If your used to Klipsch in your face highs these speakers are not for you and I do have a full RF-82 ii set up up front.

Music to your Ears!

Rocking an older Klipsch 5-ch setup - RC35’s, RF35’s and RB25’s that I inherited, all basically new out of the box. Considering upgrading what I’ve got (the Klipsch 8000F’s are on a good sale rn). 

I got the Denon x4700h to check off the gaming features and have the option to upgrade to atmos but most of my use is just 4k disc and music streaming.

All good on the tv and sub so curious if I’m best off upgrading any pieces to get the most out of the 5.1 or if I should put the money towards some good height channels (not a priority for me now but maybe in a few years). 

Open to any products, for now looking to spend &lt;1200 on any replacements or additions.

Audio upgrade advice

I'm a HT newbie planning on building a basement home theater from scratch. Its a long, narrow, short room (19Lx\~11Wx6'4"H). 

I'm planning on getting the Yamaha RX-A4A which is a 7.2 receiver. Gaming and Movies are the priority for us.   I have a 65" TV but may upgrade to 77", theres plenty of length and I plan to do two tiers of seating.   

That said, even after reviewing the speaker buying guide I have no idea the most appropriate speaker set up to have a compatible set in the right configuration.   From what I can tell it would better to go 5.1.2 rather than 7.1, which I think makes sense since the surrounds can emulate rears but the heights add another dimension. 

However would this work with two tiers of seating? the back seats would have the surrounds and 'rears' in front of them. The back row wouldn't be the primary seating but would it be annoying for those sitting back there?   

I was thinking booking shelfs for the front stage and then in-wall/ceiling for the surrounds and heights.  I have a budget of around $2k for the full speaker set (or I could start with smaller set and expand in the future). I care much more for clarity than volume and don't need it to get that loud. I also hate when a setup has drown out dialogue and want to make sure to prioritize quality dialogue. What speakers would you recommend for this configuration?
