 So opening it up like this and you might be saying Voila look at the size of this thing or lack of it that is Let's talk about the low one is zero and this is the fire and knife over here This is as always known as a neck knife you wear it around the neck area and you put it over here In case you're in the deep woods you're hunting gathering you're swimming you're in the water Let's say you're submerged in the water like this. You're in a survival situation You don't want to lose your most important survival thing, which is the neck knife right here Now it does come with a lot of interesting access in case you want to make it a belt knife There is the fasteners here that you can add right here. Esee Izula Fire Ant ! Bushcraft Knife & Survivor Kit - YouTube

 I thought that the 1095 steel would be a bad choice for me because I work near salt water constantly but I decided to take the chance and just keep oiling it for protection. However, I just don’t like the powder coat finish on the knife and I’m already having to combat rust in the first week of ownership. Lessons learned. I will definitely pony up the money for something with better corrosion resistance like VG-10, M390, or Elmax

It’s ok but it is definitely over-hyped. My biggest complaint is ergonomics. It’s just a weird, unnatural angle for the handle. It has a full length tang that fits all fingers and the micarta grips are comfortable but the angle is just weird

 Contacted the seller (Prime Valley) who said I need to contact Esee. I contact Esee and they say the seller is supposed to cover it. Back and forth with them and a return isn’t worth it. Frustrating to have to deal with

Nice knife, extras missing

I wanted a second knife as a carry on on hikes and generally light bushcraft expeditions. I researched on smaller fixed blades, possibly to be used and adorned as a neck knife or a horizontally mounted belt draw device. I purchased this version (with the survival kit) but ultimately I returned the Izula II and here is why:  Let me preface by saying that I really, really liked the idea of the Izula II and I actually liked it more in person, although I was not terribly impressed with the sharpness (out of the box) of the one which I had received (Amazon fulfillment) Since it would take me a few days to decide as to whether to keep or to return, I do not wish to perform serious sharpening on knives which I am sitting on the fence during the decision making process. I would try some light oiling and stropping and may even use a fine ceramic honing tool, but that would be about it

The edge of the knife toward the tip just felt duller than the rest of the blade, an issue which I am sure CS either at the seller or the manufacturer (ESEE) would have corrected without hesitation, but as it always goes, fist impressions are very important and for the non-uniform sharpness reason I was not terribly impressed with the one I had received and didn't wish to engage in the back and forth adventure!  I loved the size, the shape, the carbon steel, the Micarta handles and the Kydex sheath

Better as a horizontal belt knife than a silly neck knife!

 But try taking it out again - very difficult to pull the knife out of its small sheath. I like a secure knife in my sheath more than anyone, but if you have problems getting it out again (for when you might really need it), it's time for a new sheath. I have a sore index finger from trying to pull the knife out. My first attempt nearly had me stabbing my left hand by accident - due to the recoil when struggling to take the knife out

  Two issues I have: 1. The factory edge is machined with tiny micro scratches along the blade. The blade edge is more susceptible to rust. You will need to do a thorough cleaning on the blade edge after each use to keep it from rusting - more so than usual

 The sheath, while light and form-fitting, is a hazard to use. There are two small notches inside the sheath that snaps when you insert the knife in (telling you it's secure). But try taking it out again - very difficult to pull the knife out of its small sheath. I like a secure knife in my sheath more than anyone, but if you have problems getting it out again (for when you might really need it), it's time for a new sheath

Great knife, just needs a little work

I wanted a holdout fixed blade for my desert boots. I can't remember how ESEE hit my radar, I had never used their stuff when I was active duty. But when I asked friends, particularly army friends, they said good things. So I took a chance and bought the Izula 2

In the end I would say if you don’t need the belt clip then save a few dollars and buy just the knife. If you want the clip look for it separately it may be cheaper.

 The coating on the blade looks very durable and the blade came near razor sharp. Even after a month I still don’t feel the need to sharpen it. I’m 100% satisfied with it.

The only reason I rated 4 stars is because I feel this kit isn’t worth the money. All of the extras are very cheap and shouldn’t cost more then a couple dollars at most and I will never use any of them except for the belt clip. The belt clip works great. I prefer to carry the Izula scout carry
