It's one of those IEMs that 'wow' that sounds like actual clean water. Something difficult to find in most price ranges today < $1000. Of course, I'm biased as a happy Etymotic ER4SR user. The KZ ZS10 Pro. I love mine and it's become my daily set of drivers, 10 of them to be specific.

Edit: While the silicone tips in the box are fine, the KZ Foam Tips sound and isolate better and are more comfortable and all for just a fiver

For those of you who don’t hesitate to shell out multiple hundreds of dollars on nice sets of IEMs, which ‘budget’ pair really surprised you with its sound and build quality ?

 Things sound more crisp and bright than they do bass-forward, but the Knife track proves that when bass exists, it isn't shied away from.

Orchestral tracks, like the opening scene in John Adams' The Gospel According to the Other Mary, get the treatment audiophiles seeking flat response dream of. The lows exist, but in a supporting role&mdash;the lower register instrumentation has some resonance and depth at times, but it is subtle. There's a fullness to it, but it's not nearly as prominent as the higher register brass, strings, and vocals and their high-mid and high frequency presence. This is a bright, exceptionally clear sound signature with natural richness to complement the highs

 Callahan's baritone vocals often get some added richness in the low-mids, but that isn't the case here&mdash;his voice is still rich, but not ridiculously so. The most obvious aspect of the ER4 SR's sound signature is clarity throughout the frequency range&mdash;everything is crystal clear, with contour and definition. Things sound more crisp and bright than they do bass-forward, but the Knife track proves that when bass exists, it isn't shied away from.

 I remove and wash them the tips with soap and water when they get gross, don't do this if you use foam tips; when they're dirty, you throw them out. Very nicely balanced sound, and they seem to like my headphone amp. One star off because they're expensive, and another because of the harmonic distortion/bleed.

 The isolation is fantastic of course, provided you can find the right fit for your ears. I use the standard tri-flange tips myself. I remove and wash them the tips with soap and water when they get gross, don't do this if you use foam tips; when they're dirty, you throw them out. Very nicely balanced sound, and they seem to like my headphone amp

 Went with the studio reference version because I don't care for too much bass, and I can safely say there is a good amount here. The bass is present, clean, well-defined, and it's not so much that the sound is muddy. The isolation is fantastic of course, provided you can find the right fit for your ears. I use the standard tri-flange tips myself

They have clear highs and tight snappy bass with an enormous driving force. Very good at blocking noise in/out. For in-ear i would probably go with Etymotic ER4SR.

The bass is tight and so fast it some times for real scares the living hell out of me. Im actually listening to a metal cover of the Mandalorian theme as i write this and its just... perfect.

Be aware that the Planars do need quite an amp to drive them to their full potential.

I don’t get it at all. The only difference between genres is whether or not you absolutely need good bass extension. Otherwise, good headphones are good headphones.  Really  it’s always better to have good sub bass even if it isn’t required for a genre like metal.

The Sundara is polished and detailed, great treble too, so sibilance at all. Not much sub bass though, the only way you'll feel that is if you listen to them in a vibrating massage chair...

What's with the headphone recs for heavy metal?

Been using Etymotic earphones for about a decade and this is the first model I've had issues with. Sound quality is great but the cable design is its downfall. The cable is so heavy that none of the flange tips like to stay in my ears, the shirt clip is a must for any hope of them staying. The other issue is the long 60 inch cable constantly gets in the way as it has a habit of hanging below the knee while walking
