 They put it somewhere in the middle But my last head I played for Five six months at least and it gave me no issues So enough talking now I'm going to demonstrate how it sounds at low medium and high tunings and I am playing this on my 14 by six and a half Ludwig supraphonic snare drum. Let's check it out. So this snare head has like two and a half plies of film on it And what I mean by that is the outer ply is five millimeter film on the inside It's seven point five millimeters and on the underside There's a small ring of two millimeter film for overtone control and that is Amazing that overtone control combined with the small vents drilled around this entire snare head are So perfect and I just think work together so so well.  It's a it's a great snare drum head But let's dive a little bit deeper into it. Let's talk about How this thing sounds when you're able to tune your snare real low Tune it medium or even tune it high and what the characteristics of this snare head actually are. The cool thing that I really like about these Evans boxes is that it says the Qualifications right on the box. So this snare head it's got Relatively high attack so it's nice and defined which is great for all those little ghost notes And then it's got a short sustain Yes This is my favorite part about This snare head is the short sustain

I was skeptical at first, since the dry snare sound I have tried to achieve over the years seemed elusive at best, having tried about every external add-on that I could rig up without total success.  But I have been using Evans heads almost exclusively lately- so when I saw this HD Dry and its claims - I bought it.  I must admit - I am amazed at the sound the head puts out without the need for coaxing. I installed it nice and tight all the way around and it was instantly my favorite snare

Got my son the Ludwig pocket kit. It’s something I’ve been using a ton too but we’re both beginners. What are some upgrades to this specific kit? Going to look at GuitarCenter and FB marketplace.

 But this is an awesome sounding head, again very, very versatile. You could use this for many different styles of music. It's all just a matter of like with the rock song, do you want it to have a nice open sounding snare with lots of ring or do you want a more controlled and very dry sound? You know it's those types of minute details that you can talk about when you're discussing the different heads that you're choosing, especially when you're talking about one with precision drilled holes and one without those, right. So it really, you know, comes down to you following your ears and figuring out the exact sound that you're looking for for the style of music you're playing

 Then it also has that 2mm control ring around the outer side of the head underneath. It just kind of floats and really adds a lot of control and cuts some of that unwanted sustain. So it's a really good sounding head. I find the reason that I like the dry is just because I like that even more controlled sound

I am looking to buy some new heads, and i am not sure what snare head to buy.
I am playing on a Pearl Chad Smith sig. Steel snare. Any suggestions ? I am currently playing an Evans Black Coated Hydraulic snare head, which sounds good, but I think it doesn’t really bring out the steel sound of the snare.
