Fender Rumble 25 v3 Bass amp

I like the sound of the Ampeg BA110V2 at 40w and it comes in at $200, or the Acoustic B50C at 50w also $200. 

I haven't even bought a bass yet but I've been doing as much research as possible and wanted one since I was a kid. I'm a broke high school student, not entirely looking for the best of the best, just something to get the feel of the instrument. What amp brands or specific amps would be best to look into preferably under $400?

What's a reliable amp brand on the cheaper side?

I generally play a Hartke 3500 with matching cabinet with 4 10” speakers. I wanted something a little more portable to do low volume playing to gig with some friends out of town. I play 5-string bass and when the volume of the amp is 50% or a little more, the single 10” speaker resonates and rattles badly when I play open B string. I’ll be lugging the 4-10 cabinet and Hartke head which is what I was trying to avoid because of back problems

 It is suited for larger venues. If you play 5-string bass, I do not recommend this amp.

Not good for low end

 The mids, I'm cutting that back from 5 to about 4 and boosting the bass from 5 to about 7 and let's see what that gives us. So now you have quite a respectable sound especially for practicing right, it's not a bad sound. Now I'm going to flatten the EQ again and engage the mid cut. And you can see straight away there how let's just scoop the mids from the tone and of course you can still play around with the EQ with that

 Anything more than that, a drum set, stuff like that, you need a bigger amp. But for small stuff this is very very good and sometimes like me I don't really want to lug my amp that I use on the road and bring it upstairs because it's a bit of a lug and having something like this in the studio allows me to just plug in and practice, the auxiliary in will let me put my music player in so I can practice along to something and that's what it uses. Now let's have a listen to just the flat sound. So let's play around with the EQ a bit, I'm going to cut the treble, they've all got centre detent so I'm cutting the treble back from say 5 at the centre detent to about 3

Fender Rumble 25

I’ve been playing professionally for over 50 years and have played them all. Needed a lighter practice-rehearsal amp. I’ve used the rumble 500 with two tens and when I saw the 40 came with a ten and the exact tone stack as the 500 I got it. Very light and a good selection of tones

 It acts more like a gain stage as the amp gets noticeably louder. All in all a really fine little amp and with the line out you definitely could gig it.

I'd say upgrade the amp next if you like the bass you've got. A Rumble 25 will not cut it in a band context.

I am facing a decision on equipment. I can only upgrade either the bass or the amp though.

I currently have a Yamaha trbx174 and I love it. Its a great bass that has helped me get my technique in order. But now I am looking to see what would be available in terms of an upgrade, by upgrade I would mean playability, improved tone/sound, (some of these could be improved with technique I suppose).  I wonder if a new bass would provide either of these? What is your experience going from an entry bass such as that to something else?

I am also looking to start playing more with others in the next year (when this covid thing starts to end) but all I have now is a fender rumble 25, which is fine for my interface and laptop when I am in the shed, but I wonder if it would get drowned out when I play with a drummer.
