 And the positioning of the grommets for the EPS connector and for the main power could hardly be any better. So far so good, now it's time for the cooler. My chosen cooler is a Fractal Designed Celsius S36. Also a 360mm Ace Tech that is assembled on this clever top bracket

 I'm Leo Wood of KitGuru with two cases from Fractal Design. This is the Fractal Design Define 7 and that is the Fractal Design Define 7 XL. Self explanatory. The Define 7 replaces the Define R6 which I reviewed two years and either two or three months ago

 The three 140mm fans supplied to stock, so two at the front, one at the rear, are rated at 1000 RPM, hence they are nice and quiet on auto mode, in fact they're quiet on full mode, and the same is true of the PWM fans on the Celsius S36. I'm quite sure this case has the potential to be noisy if you put faster, louder fans in place, as it is after all open at the top and at the rear, however it is fully filtered so there is some noise baffling. It's an interesting case, I like it a lot, the way it comes apart and goes back together is absolutely superb. It's big inside but not too huge on the outside, so a kind of TARDIS-E, and I think it is significant that I have not used these four drive bay accessories, and I have not used the various accessories that Fractal sent me in case I wanted to install a load of extra storage

 It's an interesting case, I like it a lot, the way it comes apart and goes back together is absolutely superb. It's big inside but not too huge on the outside, so a kind of TARDIS-E, and I think it is significant that I have not used these four drive bay accessories, and I have not used the various accessories that Fractal sent me in case I wanted to install a load of extra storage. Also in the intro I probably wasn't crystal clear about the optical drive bay mount, you don't have to add an extra mount, there's a little bracket up the top and you simply hang the optical drive off that, so if you want an optical drive in your PC build, I personally haven't used an optical drive in a long time, a surprising number of kicker readers do however, then it couldn't be simpler to install. What do I think of the Define 7? I like it a lot, I wish to goodness that this is what the Define R6 had been two years ago, looking at it I see no reason why it couldn't have been built back then, what's clearly happened is the designer has taken a fresh look at the case and they've just gone back to basics and gone well why have we got it this way and why does the top have a rack that slots into place and then screws in, why not just have a top that comes away in its entirety and so on and so forth, and the result is this, it's a stealth case, it just is, it works brilliantly well, it gives you loads of options and I've used almost none of them in this build, however I have some liquid cooling hardware to work with in the near future and I think this case is going to get a good run with a liquid cool build, probably in a month, maybe two, this case has a lot going for it, one thing it doesn't have however, obviously, is RGB, the only RGB is on the Trident Z Neo memory and also the lighting on the edge of the RTX 2080, so understated as I say, whether you want RGB or not, you know that, that is the single biggest dividing line between this case and say the Phanteks Evolve X, they do surprisingly similar jobs in quite different ways, Phanteks includes RGB, Fractal does not, I have to say the Fractal looks quite expensive but it feels like quality and when I say expensive I'm talking about if they were to cut the price by £10 or £20 which as a percentage is fairly trivial and in the great scheme of things is not worth dwelling on, the Fractal Design Define 7 has a long list of good points, almost everything about it is good, on the negative side the price may be a tad high, the three fans included are not PWM models and the fan hub is split half PWM half non-PWM, I don't understand that, I want PWM fans and a full PWM hub and then I'd be as close to being entirely happy as you'll ever see me get

Fractal Design Define 7 / XL Review - DAMN thats CLEVER !

Fractal Design Define 7 - white with brushed metal face, nearly silent. I'm a 40+ gamer, but I like the understated look. The build quality is fantastic.

As someone who is now building a fully new PC after 6 1/2 years (and purchased a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv case 2 years after building), what made you choose your current PC case?  
Personally, I am looking at an Lian Li Lancool 2 Performance model for my next build, however, I’ve only exclusively looked for airflow. What made you choose your case for a new build?

Why did you choose your PC case?

Good build but no HDD activity light - if you install an optical drive expect it to be wobbly

 Included fans are a 140 at the front at 1000rpm and a 120 for the rear at 1200rpm. The top frame is fully modular, just like with the Define 7, all tool-less panels, and a cool looking dust filter that absolutely clashes with the ventilation pattern on the mesh top panel. I simply do not understand this design mess, but at least if you are using any fans up top or a radiator, it is a good value add. The fan bracket in my opinion here is best in class, secured with two side screws, and the whole bracket just simply lifts up, making installation super easy, and given the short nature of the frame, only dual fans are compatible with clearance for only a 240 radiator

 And it's also more expensive versus similar sized compact mid towers that I mentioned the beginning of the video. That is it. Let me know what you think of this enclosure. I've done more cool airflow testing inside the Be Quiet 500DX

 And that gave us the coolest CPU temperature when the front panel is installed. So if we sort this from best to worst, I would highly recommend you move that front fan to the top exhaust as this is the most appropriate fan setup for my style of system. And just for a quick comparison versus the airflow focused Be Quiet 500DX, you can see how the Define 7 Compact can be competitive as long as you move the fan and use the mesh panel up top. All right, so that is the Define 7 Compact, really nothing special aside from that modular top section

 And again, removing a front panel here proves how little air is getting through. I then repositioned the front fan to intake up top in front of the CPU cooler. And that didn't really help versus having the fan up front. And finally, I moved the fan to the back in exhaust orientation

I Wanted It To Be Great - Fractal Define 7 Compact Review

im about to build a new pc in the next months.

My thoughts are something along the lines of a Ryzen 7 3700x and a RTX 2080 Super (totally depends on the pricing of ampere tho).

I'm not sure about the case tho. I like the looks of the H510 better and it's on sale at the moment for 60€ but I heard that the Meshify C has one of the best airflow designs.

Is it that significant or should I run the setup in the better looking H510?

  Final verdict: If you value build quality, you'll be hard pressed to find better. However, almost nothing is toolless; that's the sacrifice you have to make. Personally, I think if you value time i.e

Great but incomplete - *** sold separately

 So depending on the cooling configuration, you can actually have a proper sleek clean looking top or a better performing ventilated panel. Now, this is definitely an extra cost and one of the reasons why these cases are a bit more expensive than the previous ones, but I think the end result is really worth it. Front I.O

 The door feels great, the metal hinges are very well done and you can reverse it to open the other way if you prefer. You can also reach the bottom dust filter from the front, which is a very nice thing and very convenient. A very positive change is that they got rid of that lame top panel cover that was popular before. And instead of having that removable thing that you just slap on top, both 7 and the 7 XL actually get shipped with two completely different top panels

 Even though both cases can fit a ton of fans, they come with three 140 millimeter fans by default. Two in the front and one in the back, and that is what I tested the cases with. Now, consider the fact that both rigs are pretty powerful. Neither case had any issues keeping the temperatures under control

A Worthy Successor - Fractal Define 7 & Define 7 XL Review

Design + Function all in one

 So the top of the basement right here, the rear fan exhaust, they're instead of being direct straight vertical cuts, they're all a bunch of different geometric shapes, and it's a really sharp look that I really do appreciate. That vent design is carried over into one of the two top panels that you can select for your Define 7. But don't worry, you don't have to choose at purchase. Both are included in the box

 They're dropping the R from the name, as the R stood for revision, and, well, revision is now implied. If, like me, you've been a long-time fan of the Define R series, you are going to love this case, as pretty much every single thing has been improved in some meaningful way. Starting with the side panel. Now, the Define R6 introduced what I like to call the click-lock system of installing the side panel, and the Define 7 takes it one step further, and that is pretty much the only thing that holds the side panel in place

 It's a 100% custom PCB that sat right up here along the top of the back side of the case, keeping your cables nice and tidy and very easy to manage. Like the Define R6, the Define 7 does include vertical GPU mounting support for a two-slot graphics card. However, you will have to buy the Fractal Design riser cable if you'd like to utilize that. One of the biggest differences visually with the new Define 7 is actually Fractal's new design language
