I don't like S30V as I find it chips easily cutting at high tension regardless of how long it stays sharp.If this knife was in the fifties range I would give it 4-stars because it is reliable,has a sturdy lock,American-made(rare for Gerber these days),has a pretty decent grip in your hand.Yet there's things to point out even more so about this knife because of it's price tag because there's no justification for it.

The blade comes and locks up but there's no 'signature feel' like a Buck ASAP or a Zero Tolerance.It works but it feels no different than a twenty dollar assisted opening knife from China..

 All of that so just a little bit better slicing like cardboard and EDC stuff with the Amerson. But if you were to ask me: okay, hey we're gon na go for a day at the range or you know we're gon na go on a hiking trip, or you know we're just gon na be doing a lot of heavier. You know outdoor hard stuff, not around town EDC. You know just more more tactical

 I love seeing that on these plates and that a good price point as well. I love to see that now this is gon na come with a fantastic relief edge. Hopefully you guys can see that there I mean with that saber grind. This thing is fantastic, really high relief edge, which means that this is a slicer

 It'S just a little bit heavier than say some ultralight autos that are out there, but that g10 is very aggressive. You can see there with all the different cut ins. You got that stainless steel backer right there with that glass, breaker lanyard hole. So that's gon na give you really hit like strong, strong

 It wears really well that oxide coating is really nice to see, and you know, with their lifetime warranty Gerber offers a lifetime warranty. I have used it in the past with other products so way back in the day when I first you know started this channel, I broke an LM F to doing something approached it enough, but BAM they replaced it within two weeks. There'S a new one at my door with an actually upgraded sheath kit. You know - and I've used it once or twice before with other things, and they are really quick and really good at taking care of their customers

 i opted for the high carbon blade. i always have problems with sharpening knives, and high carbon steel is easier for me to sharpen than other types of steels. well upon receiving this blade i was impressed with the feel of it. it has heft to it with is according to its size

 i tried lubing the blade and mechanisims up up and really working the opening assist. there was a sound of hard rubbing. after another day of this i decided to send it back and opted for a replacement. the replacement came just as the original knife started working pretty good

 I don't know we could potentially hit it for the weight, which is four point, seven ounces, but that's really not bad at all. Considering what you get here, four point: seven, that's under five and that's I don't know I think, that's actually pretty dang good. It'S not much of a hit at all right there.  I can all I can say in regards to this knife: is it's maybe not the prettiest auto I've seen but short of that the price is pretty good. The function is fantastic and it's made in USA. Not great out of the box

 So that's one use, I'll show you with some paracord here and some regular rope. So just to show you through the paracord, cuts no problem. Regular rope here, again, works totally fine. Obviously something like a plastic bottle, no problem whatsoever, here's another one

 I got this directly from Gerber for review, it does come in this black box, there's not a whole lot of information on it, it does say on the end what the actual knife is and then there's one little piece of paper inside which basically says be careful it's a knife you can cut yourself. So that's pretty much all you get from Gerber, but let's talk through some of the specs of the knife. One of the first things you can probably notice on the knife is that it says Portland Oregon right there on the blade. I will tell you in speaking to one of the Gerber reps at a SHOT Show 2013, he did tell me that they are hearing from their customers and the questions about things made in China versus things in the US, they are taking those things into consideration as they produce knives and other gears

Another thing you can see on the blade is that it says S30V, so that's the type of metal that we're using for the blade

 That's what they look like on this side. The actual blade is a black oxide coating for corrosion resistance. And moving back to the handles, it is G10. I will tell you that it is a pretty aggressive texture on this

The Gerber Downrange Propel Auto is my new EDC.  I've been carrying and using it for the better part of 2 months now, and while I don't usually like knives with serration, this one has been a great blade.  You certainly need to check your local and state regulations on if you can have an auto-knife, but I have really enjoyed this one.  Solidly-made, cool color, nice point for getting into things before I cut.

So now, let's talk about this knife real quickly and we'll get down to the old table top here because, as you can see, we're not outside we're in the uh indoor studios here at survival on purpose worldwide headquarters. Because it's been raining all day and now it's dark - and i wanted to make this video for you and it's not really an outdoor outdoor kind of knife

 By the way, i mean strong, strong, quick, snappy action and uh, partially serrated blade and a tattoo um. I like that for a kind of a um urban survival kind of knife. So let's um do a couple of basic tests. First, let's do the redneck sharp test? How about that? Try that so we'll try we'll try the old redneck sharp test and i'm going to gather my oh, my god i can tell

 We'Re going to do some other stuff and i got some tests. I got. I got some. Oh you see that you'll see it in a minute

 Clip on it is, as we said, a push button automatic and it has a plunge lock. So this is, this: is a lock plunger lock with a safety switch, so you can set that you can set it both to keep it from locking closing or you can set the safety to keep it from opening. So there's that and then this knife is made in the u usa and the msrp on this knife is 160 bucks, so it ain't cheap, but it is really really solid and street price. In this thing, i've seen it in a couple places for like 130 to 140, depending on, if it's when it's in stock and sometimes it's out of stock, it's got a lanyard hole here

 oil helped a little but it just needed some usage before it became easier to actuate. The second reason is when you use the safety to lock it closed it still opens about a forth of an inch from the hilt, enough to expose the point and blade. after six months i have not had any problems with the blade opening on its own however it was a concern when I first received the knife. In conclusion it has great features, high durability and a couple minor drawbacks but over all is a great knife
