 And it's a real sensitive sounding snare drum. I have it tuned up kind of high but like I said it's versatile, you can tune it down low, put a little dampening on it and you can get a totally different sound if you'd like. But it's got a nice volume bump from the edge of the drum to the center. It's sensitive in the hands and it's got a nice big cracky back beat when I want to play a simple kind of funky or kind of rock beat

 Just a little simple bolt clamps on and stays in place so you're good to go there. The sound of these drums is great. The mahogany wood with Gretches thirty degree bearing edges adds to that warm tone. Let me turn the snare wires off and play you the sound of these toms

 But first, let's get into the hardware. The hardware in this kit, really cool, very versatile and heavy duty, works really well. Got the big Gretsch gas cap on the kick drum here, holds the rack tom in place, nice and sturdy and it's a great visual feature as well. You got a ball joint and your single tom holder right here, you can also attach another cymbal arm here if you'd like to

 Do your old Gene Krupa exercises if you want to with this kit. The snare drum is really sensitive, comes with a nice ratchet style throw off while you're on the left hand side, really easy to use on and off very quickly with the snare drum wires. And it's a real sensitive sounding snare drum.  Using coated ambassador heads, just basic single ply coated ambassadors, you get a nice attack and the warmth. It's very musical sounding and a great tone interval between each drum. Where’s the snare drum and mounted Tom Tom?

What drum gear has surprised you the most? I mean we all know the high end stuff that sounds amazing, but what have you owned/borrowed/heard that didn't cost a lot but sounded good? I will start you with 2 of mine.....

Nice warm tone, similar to a birch sound. Versatile, single tom post has a 7/8's accessory hole, so can mountain an extra cymbal arm. Lightweight kit, good for gigging, recording etc. Very happy with it

 Go ahead and leave me a comment below giving me your thoughts on the improvements that they've done to this kit, the finishes, the new bass drum mount. I definitely think they have upped the game for this kit while still trying to keep the price as low as possible so all of us can get it into our hands. Especially if you're looking for either a classic tone drum set or just a smaller drum set that's easy to pack up. So that's going to do it for today and as always remember if you want to stay up to date on the latest drum gear, pick up tips and tricks and look at products like we did today

 We're going to hop in the car, we're going to go right over to Hugh's house. He has a brand new Catalina Club in a very pretty finish. I'll show you pictures and video of all of the upgrades. These include things like new claw hooks for the bass drum hoops, a new tom mount which looks amazing, it looks like they have redone the tension rods, and even though I didn't get any film of it, it looks like they are doing a better job of finishing the inside of the shell as far as sanding it down and making it look really nice

 So I ended up with all three of us there with the drum set and that's what you're going to see for the sound examples. You will hear Hugh playing it himself and then you'll hear Cedric playing it, which will give you a nice variety in somebody that doesn't hit very hard and somebody that hits a little harder. And obviously because their styles are different, the drums will sound a little different as how far as they will react. Now keep in mind, Hugh is a Dixieland swing jazz type player

 Of course, there's a couple of drummers hanging out. Drummers want to come and hang. So I ended up with all three of us there with the drum set and that's what you're going to see for the sound examples. You will hear Hugh playing it himself and then you'll hear Cedric playing it, which will give you a nice variety in somebody that doesn't hit very hard and somebody that hits a little harder

 So he does tune these drums in the medium high, maybe to high range. So just keep in mind that you can go lower with the tunings. These drums in my experience and with this new version of the kit have a wide tuning range. So just keep that in mind as you see what we see on the next couple of shots

Beautiful set up! I've had 3 bop kits in my time: Gretsch Catalina, GMS Maple and Yamaha 8000, and despite being the cheapest, the Catalina was the best sounding by a long way. Such a great tone! Wonderful kits.

So I'm 13 and still a begginer, I'm gonna beg my dad to by me a drums set but I need to find a good drums set to know how much it'll cost and such and I really need help! Nothing too pricy but I want it to still be a good set and it's probably best if I find out where the best places to buy parts if anything breaks or needs replacing. I have my heart set on getting a drums set I just don't really know where to start to be honest...

<p>Edit: Okay so I just wanted to clarify some things when I say beginner I don&#39;t mean I&#39;ve never played drums before, it means I play drums but I only know like 3 things on it ( Simple 4 count, 4 count but with S P I C E, and Believer by imagine dragons) so I wouldn&#39;t call myself intermidiate until I learn more stuff.</p>
