End of 2020/Into 2021 Pedalboard

I’m a chap in his 40s (not too old hehe) looking to buy a device to learn and make some nice ambient electronic music (arps, some beats, melodies etc, random triggers etc).  Working on a computer all day can drive me nuts, so I’m looking at something (1 or 2 devices) I can use to get creative on and relax to and learn.

I’ve been watching many videos and love the Eurorack scene, but it can get very expensive and I’m not sure I’m ready for that learning curve.

Then there is the Elektron Digitone and Digitakt, they look amazing.  I’m guessing most get both?  Would that give me a setup to create some some tunes for myself?

I’d image you buy one and learn it then the other adds a nice upgrade and both can sit nicely in the corner of a room with some headphones?

Then there is the Octatrack, which is about the same price and the Digitone and Digitakt together.  I’m not sure if better to get just this or but the Digitone and Digitakt?  More research is needed.

I’ve also see there is a MPC One which looks like a Sampler and DAW on a computer.

Lots to read up on and investigate.

I listen to a lot of music but have never really played any apart from an Roland Groovebox I had many years ago.  I have ideas in my head and think I’d love to create that.

Hey all! I know this post is not going to be very detailed but I am looking to surprise my boyfriend with a new synth for christmas this year, the only problem being my lack of knowledge about them. I know he already has 2 or 3, and uses them for studio recording as well as live performances, and i dont want to ask him too much about what models of synths he currently has as i dont want him to be too suspicious. Veteran synth users, what is something that I could get for him? Something that could fit into anyones collection (also im not sure if this will help but I believe he is inspired by john carpenters scores and also likes to make lo-fi style beats). Thanks in advance!
