 So it's a much better choice for comfort than traditional, cordless vacuums, which tend to wear out your arm quicker. The hoover linx signature has a brush roll for carpets, which can be turned off by the rotary switch on the handle for hard floor vacuuming as well. The dust bin is a decent size for a cordless and we found that it was easy to empty with minimal sticking of debris. It'S also easy to disassemble for deep cleaning

 It'S, of course, not as well-built as a high-end, Dyson or anything, and it's not going to have the same sealed system and HEPA filtration as the more expensive vacuums. And it can't deep, clean carpets as well as an upright. But it seems like a really solid vacuum.   UPDATE 11/13/13 Well another piece has broken. We had been working harmoniously without the beater bar on our hardwood since Spring, but now a piece of the red plastic insert on the inside of the canister broke so it will not stay snuggly attached while I am vacuuming. Without that piece on, all the hair and big chunks get sucked into the filter area. The brush bar on our 11 year old Dyson also broke last week, so I am trying to decide whether to buy a new Dyson upright, or just keep the old Dyson for our hardwood floors and deep cleaning, and get a new Linx to use on our three rugs

UPDATE 6/9/17 We bought our second one in November 2013 because I missed the bar working and it just finally broke a few months ago, so I got around 3 years of use out of the second one. The SAME problem as before, where the bar no longer spins. This makes it useless on carpet because it just smears the hair and dirt around instead of wisking it up. It will actually make carpet MORE dirty without the bar rotating, because more stuff that gets stuck on the inside of the vacuum ends up coming out than what goes in

 What I did with my last one, and what I need to do with this one now is just take the roller brush completely. This will keep stuff from getting stuck on the brush when I use it on my hardwood floors, but without the brush in there, suction will not be as good and useless on carpet. I just will have to get out my corded Dyson when I want to vacuum my rugs. I guess the moral of the story is, you get what you pay for when it comes to not breaking and a good warranty

 :(  First Reaction, 2011: I am sooooo happy I decided to give this stick vacuum a chance. Our 17 month old decided to develop a terrible fear of our big purple Dyson Pet, so I was using a little Bissell push sweeper and trying to clean all the floors (all hardwood except for one rug) of our house with it so I wouldn't send him into daily panic. That was not going to well as it just didn't have enough sucking power to get things clean enough. It is also GREAT not having to worry about cords of the big Dyson since my toddlers would always yank them out of the socket, or wrap them around their bodies while I was trying to clean

 This works.  Next, I applied aircraft epoxy to secure the pins back into place. After it dried, I applied a second coat. Every consumer in America keeps epoxy on hand, right? After the epoxy dries, make certain that the spring loaded clip that holds the swivel head to the main housing will fit down in place between the pins

  Can you believe it? Hoover is actually putting round pins into square holes.  This is NUTS! No wonder there was a loose connection. A secure connection is impossible with this design.  I received an email from an Amazon customer who stated, "I've lost control

  UPDATE: 7/22/14  I have now been using this vacuum cleaner for 20 months. Since making my last repairs, I have not had one bit of trouble. It works great and I've just purchased a new battery.  Hello HOOVER,  Forget the bells and whistles and get back to the basics

 I've treated this machine gently. It was only used for ten minutes a day, with roller brush, on two 5' X 8' rugs and two ottomans where cats like to sleep. I emptied it daily and cleaned the foam filter once a week with compressed air.  Repairing appliances is one of my many hobbies so I preceded to "fix it

 And set your expectations correctly - this is not your over engineered 1975 Electrolux canister - it's a Hoover, made to a price point, cordless, light duty, and convenient.

 I discovered this when my brush stopped spinning one day.  I couldn't simply repair it as it was, knowing it was designed to fail, so my solution was to grab a computer power cord, which is a heavier gauge cable but more importantly has a durable round external covering and replace the wire from the brush motor to far up the body - just above the dust cup, running it externally, not in the little flexible neck that connects the power head to the main body. The head can still come off - it just has to remain close to the body, 18 inches or so - not a huge issue, since you wouldn't normally do it unless you're servicing it. It goes in and out of the body with rubber grommets covering the hole and is so tight I had to use dish soap to squeeze the cord in - which is good - it doesn't slide, so it keeps the cord in place

 What is not robust is the cheap, light gauge wire with no serious protection (just a cheap cloth sleeve that lasted about 18 months) against friction or abrasion that runs from those connectors inside the flexible neck on the head unit. Light gauge wire means more resistance, so the wire gets hotter, gets more brittle over time, particularly with heavy usage (like if you have multiple batteries or if you ALWAYS run the brush, which I do, or if you clean thick carpet all of the time, so the brush has a harder time spinning, drawing more current, creating more heat). I discovered this when my brush stopped spinning one day. I purchased a refurbed Linx from Amazon about 18 months ago, and ironically, though my vac has broken a couple of times, I still really like the vacuum. It really gets used heavily. I have a big black dog, a white tile floor through most of the downstairs, a 3 year old boy, and I have OCD'ish cleaning issues. I've had to fix a couple of things in the vac, but almost everything I attribute to heavy use and "accidents", like the vac tipping over from the standing position

It's a light duty vac, but the best of the cordless ones under $300. Simple design, easy to repair yourself.

 But the Linx is light, easy to maneuver, and it's a breeze to switch the brush head on and off as needed. However, where the Dirt Devil did a great job on hard floors, the Linx is a little lacking. I find myself using the brush head sometimes on floors just to pick up stubborn schmutz. But on my rug, the Linx does great

Hoover LiNX Cordless Stick Vac (Model BH50010)  Bought this to replace a Dirt Devil 10 amp stick-vac. The Dirt Devil was ok; had very decent suction, did an excellent job on hard floors, but wasn't up to snuff on any type of carpet, and the cord was kinda in the way all the time. Looking for something with a power brush, the Linx kept coming up as recommended. First time I was one of these was at a Lowes, but for over $200 so I didn't bite

 -Battery takes 2 to 3 hours to charge -Suction on carpet is impressive for a small vac but depending on the size of your carpet and how heavy the traffic is on it, you might not want to get rid of your upright vac just yet. -Small canister. If you vacuum a lot you'll have to empty often. I empty a lot when my dog is shedding

..and I mean that in a good way actually. Other cordless vac products I have purchased in the past have inferior quality batteries and they sacrifice performance in order to get longer battery life

I got the LiNX because I have mainly wood floors but a couple rooms with carpet and I hate having to switch back and forth between a broom, stick vac, and a full sized upright vac. It had great reviews so I dove in. When it came out of the box it was very light and almost felt like a toy. I was starting to think that this vac would be cheap or flimsy, but overall I really like this little vacuum

 It's a small feature but the quality is in the details.  Its performance on Carpet is pretty good. The LiNX is definitely better than any other stick vac I ever owned, and since My carpet is in parts of the house with little traffic it works out perfect for me. However the way this vacuum is marketed, you get the impression that it is just as competent as a full powered upright and it's not

 Shark really excel here with a simple knob turn to unlock the plate and able to remove the brush in 10 secs. I would say this is the hardest thing to clean because hair wraps around the brush very tight and you need to use scissors to cut them in half to save yourself some headache. The design of Shark's brush is nice because it has a grove where you can lay your scissors straight and cut through in one stroke. Linx's brush has a wave design where it doesn't allow the scissors to cut through easily

 Whereas Shark's suction power starts to reduce "noticeably" after 5-7 mins. The charging time on Linx from depleted to full is only 3 hours compared to Shark's 16 hours!!! This really limits your cleaning to once a day no matter what you do.  2) Power - Even I don't use high power setting for carpets to notice the difference in power. For hardwood floors I think both does quite well in this department as far as getting all the dusts and hairs in a couple of sweeps

It's almost perfect...

 This vac is a lot more convenient than my main vac and it does well for what I use it for, but it cannot compete for carpet cleaning.

 Occasionally you will need to pull out the center tube. You can actually use your main vacuum to clean out the bin periodically.  Overall ----------- I like this vac and use it frequently to keep my bare surfaces clean. Sometimes the unit will "clog" because when you run it with the brush off, the hair tends to stick to the brush and not get sucked into the bin

 On a bare floor I may need to make several passes over bits of dirt before the Linx actually sucks them up. It's not going to put thai hookers out of business any time soon when it comes to sucking power.  Cleaning Effectiveness ----------- Cleaning bare surfaces works well enough, but even with the brush the Linx feels very underpowered on a carpeted surface. If you have pets then it will certainly grab the top-most layer of hair
